Accidental Meeting
It was the first morning after summer camp had begun. It was early, maybe around six o'clock, or at least it appeared to be. The sun was hidden behind the trees of the forest, but every now and then there would be a ray of sunshine poking through the leaves. It was peaceful and quiet, a rare combination to be found at Hogwarts.
Nico had woken up before the sun had begun its climb to the highest point in the sky. He was in the sitting area reading the new book his mother had sent him. It was quite a compelling book, he hadn't even noticed when the sun began to light up the room.
Nico's mother thought summer camp would be good for him, perhaps he would even make a friend or two. But she knew her son, he would go out of his way to avoid interacting with the other children. So she made a deal with him, if he would promise to try to make a friend, she would send him a book each week via owl. Nico's yearning for the comfort of a new book overpowered his anxiety and fear of talking to people. Besides, how would she know if he actually made an attempt at friendship? He could easily just lie and be done with it.
Nico was halfway through the book when he finally snapped back to reality. Other people had started leaving for breakfast already. He knew that if he also left to go eat he would be forced to be around a large group of people. But his now rising hunger clouded his antisocial judgment.
He stood up, walked to the bedroom he was staying in, grabbed his wand from underneath his pillow, and stored it in his sleeve, "You never know..." Nico lingered near the window in the bedroom. There were several people just outside his cabin, he could only imagine how many there would be if he could see all of them. He sighed, "Doesn't matter. I'm going to be here for all of July, might as well get used to being surrounded by people, all the time."
Nico stepped away from the window, left the bedroom, and walked towards the door to leave the cabin, as he put his hand on the doorknob he froze. "I don't really need to eat, right? No, I do... I'm kind of really hungry." He turned the doorknob, opened the door, looked up at the cloudless sky disapprovingly, and took a step out of the cabin, his hand still lingering on the door. Nico let his hand slip off the door and walked down the few steps from the kelpie cabin. H glanced around to see where everyone was headed, assuming that they were all going to get breakfast. "Okay, deep breaths, and just follow the crowd. Simple and easy." Holding his book close to his chest, Nico walked quickly in the direction everyone else was headed. In complete honesty, he hadn't really paid attention when everyone was told the rules and locations of everything.
As he was walking, he didn't notice his untied shoelace, and so as Nico's luck would have it, he stepped on it and tripped, and ever so conveniently crashed into a boy he didn't recognize. As he fell, two simple words went through his mind: "Damn it."

The first morning of summer camp had finally arrived and Tone fully intended on making the most of it. Waking up at 6AM, Tone couldn't help but smile as he selected his outfit from his trunk. He pulled on a plain white tank top and then a short sleeved long white button-up shirt and a matching pair of pants to complete the look. A necklace, which had the Mahoutokoro symbol engraved onto a small shield-shaped object that dangled from the accessory, could be seen around his neck. Placing his wand into a makeshift 'holder' at his waist, Tone splashed some water onto his face and headed out of the Thestral Cabin. To check who was up.... Outside that is. Who could be up at this unholy early hour? Most students probably wouldn't be, right? Those who were, he could easily start up some conversations with them and try and get ahead of the game. Trying to decide who to make into his friend out of what seemed like a million people was incredibly hard to do! At least now, he'd have fewer options to choose from. It was around this time that he happened to pass by the Kelpie Cabin, just in time to catch someone in his arms. This seemed to happen to him way too often! He really had a tendency to run into people who needed him to catch them. If Tone hadn't reached out to catch him, the boy would have ended up crashing into him much harder. Which in turn would have made both of them fall over in the process! Last time it had been a girl, this time it was a boy and the pink haired teen held him securely in his arms, stabilizing him. The teen's grip wasn't too strong or too weak but just right for catching someone. "Careful there. You wouldn't want to fall and hurt yourself!" Tone said with a smile. His voice was much deeper than you would have expected to hear from someone that looked like him. He waited for the boy's reply. It was someone he didn't know right now. Perhaps a new friend? Tone was hoping maybe the two of them could become friends here! |

Just as Nico fell, a pair of arms caught him. A deep and clear voice spoke as he straightened himself out, "Careful there. You wouldn't want to fall and hurt yourself!" Nico looked up to see who it was that had saved him from his bad luck with gravity. Standing before him was a fair-skinned, pink-haired, quite attractive teen boy, appearing to be only one or two years older than Nico.
Ha, idiot. Falling into people is the perfect way to avoid socializing.
"I- um, sorry I ran into you, uh, thanks for catching me though," Nico managed to say. "I suppose an introduction is in order. Um, I'm Nico, Nico Cirillo," he said while extending his hand to shake to his pink-haired savior's.
Nico looked down at the teen's necklace, "Oh, you go to Mahoutokoro. What house are you in? If you couldn't tell, I go to Hogwarts, I'm in Slytherin. 'Suppose that might be obvious,with me having a quite prominent Brummie accent. Although I guess you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a Brummie and London accent, suppose it all just sounds British to you."
Why not talk his ear off, don't you? Nico sighed in annoyance of himself.

So Brummie is the type of English accent that someone from Birmingham (like Nico) would have. it's a dry, matter-of-fact kind of accent.

As Nico apologized and thanked him for saving him, Tone smiled at him. "Oh, don't worry about it!" He inclined his head towards Nico and took the pro-offered handshake, although it was foreign for him. In Japan they didn't usually shake hands, unless they were high-ranking people. "Tone. You can call me Tone." The pink haired teen told him with another smile. When Nico asked him about Mahoutokoro, he tilted his head to the side. Houses? Ah right, Hogwarts had Houses here. "We don't have Houses there. We're separated by years." Tone told him. It was really quite different at Mahoutokoro versus Hogwarts. "How does it work at Hogwarts? How do you get into different Houses?" Tone asked, curious. All he knew was that there were 4 of them, based off what another student had told him about back in the past when he'd visited the place. "What's Slytherin?" Tone inquired, not knowing what it meant. Did it mean anything in particular? He smiled at Nico as the boy started to chatter about accents. "You're probably right, I don't know much about accents. Unless it's an asian accent, which I'm familiar with." "Or an accent someone I know has." Tone told him. "Are you talented at picking up on all types of accents? Or just British-like ones?" The pink haired teen asked, curious. Maybe he'd get this new boy to become his newest friend. After all, making more was better than making less! At least in his mind that is. |
