Mirthful Mayhem

The train was really a beast in her eyes. It was red, gigantic, growling, and ready to swallow too many students into it's rumbling belly. Of course Satin was being overly dramatic but it was going to be her third ever ride in a train and this time she was going somewhere her parents could never go. And it was a place she'd only heard about, never seen, and she was going to be stuck there for the next seven years, or so, and it all was just way too exciting.
There were a lot of people around, primarily wizards, but her parents were included in the very tiny percentage of muggles, probably the only two. Although it was a very beautiful day, barely a cloud in the sky, warm weather with a slight breeze every now and then, her parents looked a bit uneasy, but who could blame them? No one seemed to pay attention to them, really, but they paid attention to everyone else. Their eyes noticed everything, from the messenger owls to the pointy wizard hats to the large crimson train to the people running through walls which should've defied all laws of physics. Satin felt bad but where she should've felt uneasy... she felt strangely comfortable around her fellow wizards.
Feeling a tap on the shoulder, Satin turned around to see one of her best friends, Hunter Harlowe. He was a year younger than her, at ten, but she'd known him since she was less than two years old. Beaming up at him, since he was taller than her, she said, teasingly, "Hey, kid." She'd already told him that she was going to send him letters at least once a month as long as he promised to owl her treats and presents, so she was sure why he was here for, but then he gave her a tight hug. Of course he didn't say anything because that was his quiet nature but he slid something wrapped into her hand, less than a second before the train whistle blew.
Pushing her away, a little bit too roughly for her liking, Satin hugged her parents goodbye and went onto the train, not looking back.

It took a while for her to find somewhere decent. It's not that she didn't like being around people but she was often claustrophobic and wouldn't mind being alone. Taking an empty compartment next to a crowded one, Satin flopped into the seat, leaning on her elbow as she looked at the item her friend had gave her. Twisting it around, she noticed that it had symbols, specifically runic symbols, covering the wrapping. She didn't know what they meant, yet, at least, but she had some sort of suspicion. Slowly unwrapping, she started to see a glimmer of red when-
KABOOM!
All she could see was red. It filled up the room and blew out the compartment, causing people nearby to shout in surprise. She coughed and quickly got up but knocked into someone, or maybe it was more than one. She heard laughter, and she even thought it was funny, but she was a little annoyed; why did he really have to prank her on the first day of school? Satin, trying to wave the fog away, said, "It wasn't my fault, so don't go tattling on me."

Sitting alone. Not something unusual for Samna. She was quite shy, but secretly hoped someone would come over and talk to her. But it seemed everyone else already had friends, or at least knew someone. The train was very loud. Sounds of people talking, laughing, and making weird noises. She wished that she had something to block out all the banter. Staring out the window, Samna heard a boom from another compartment. She jumped, startled at the noise. Being the curious girl she was, after hearing something odd, she went to investigate. Walking to the semi-empty car, she admired the seats of the train. Running her hand along one.
Velvet? She thought, approaching the car.
Her glowing, hazel eyes scanned the car, eventually meeting eyes with another girl. The girl's bright, blue hair almost blinded her. It was very pretty. Noticing she was on the ground, Samna walked over and offered a hand.
"You okay? What happened here?" She asked, confused at all the red smoke in the room. Samna saw some other students laughing at the mishap.
Glad it wasn't me. I would've died from embarrassment! She thought.
"Hi. I'm Samna, Samna Moore. I hope you are alright. May I sit with you?" Samna offered. She played with her long, brown hair. She did that often. Fidgeting with things was her way of relieving anxiety.

Nick was looking for a place to sit when the train car he was on rocked violently, and threw him to the floor. "I always was a weakling," he thought. Red smoke billowed out of somewhere in front of him, and filled his eyes and mouth. His bag skidded away from him. He coughed once, twice, three times, before finally looking up and seeing a girl enter a compartment, that still had some wisps of red coming out of it. Nick assumed this was the room in which the whole thing had started.
"I just wanted to have a normal trip to Hogwarts, but no, this had to happen," he thought. All of a sudden he was at the compartment door, and this disrupted his thoughts. He slid open the door and...
"Um... Should I go?" Nick had just walked in on two girls who looked as though they'd been in the middle of a conversation. He turned to leave, but he heard the Trolley Lady say to the people in the compartment next to them, and he smacked his forehead. "Well, I might as well sit down." He sat down and plopped his bag down on the chair next to him. "So, what started all this anyway? Oh, by the way, I'm Nick. What are your names?" He pulled out a book and started to read.

Satin accepted the helping hand with narrow eyes. As she got up, squinting through the red haze, she noticed that it was a kindly girl and issued a grumpy reply in return. That was before, unfortunately, she realized that the 'present' had left her hands stained red, which meant that now the girl had red on her too. She instantly aimed to wipe it on her clothes before remembering that it would make her look even worse.Professors may join. This goes back to September.
Glancing down at the floor, which became even more visible as the fog cleared, she noticed the remains of the wrapper and some sort of item with words written on it before someone, apparently a boy, stepped on it. Casting a foul look his way, she snapped, "You should really watch where you're going next time, though I hope there won't be."
Satin quickly reached down and pocketed the busted item before turning back to the two students. Most of everyone else had gone by now, since the fog had slipped through the open windows and left nothing except mystery behind. She joined the boy, sitting across from him.
"Yes, you can sit," she muttered, rubbing her neck. " I'm Satin, my friend, so dumb, he gave me some joke bomb I think, it freaking exploded...I mean you guys probably heard it." She scowled out the window. "But anyway, thanks, Nick and, uh, Samna, right? Thanks for actually showing some concern instead of just laughing."
Just then the Trolley Lady came, offering them treats. This brightened her mood to one hundred percent and there was a flash of blue hair as she bolted up, drooling over the candies. She pointed at everything she wanted, which was basically everything, saying 'this and this, oh and that too, yeah, a butt load of that, ma'am'. Soon Satin had an armful of treats, them overflowing onto the seats. Slouching into the chair, she stuffed her mouth full of pumpkin pasties and licorice wands. "This is the life. If they have a class in eating, I would surely pass." She shook her head solemnly.

Looking down at the red smudge on her hand, Samna had an idea. She rubbed the color on her opposite hand which had a small dragon she tattooed with a quill on it. In a matter of moments, the dragon was colored. After hearing about what had caused the explosion, she laughed silently. She sat down next to Satin on the very comfy seats, running her hand along it once again. Then, she decided to get a few sweets for herself. Mostly chocolate, Samna would kill for chocolate.
"Well, I'm glad you're alright. I hate seeing people get hurt." She said as she popped a chocolate in her mouth. It was delicious. Realizing Nick had asked her a question, she quickly swallowed the chocolate. "Oh! Yes, sorry. My name is Samna, but you can call me Sam. Either way works for me."
Reaching into her bag, careful not to spill her supplies, Samna pulled out a sketchbook. It had a jet black cover with some stars doodled on it. She opened up to a blank page, grabbed her favorite purple quill, and began to draw. Sketching out a rough outline of the vision in her head. Samna wanted to draw a centaur, but she was never skilled with drawing horses. Regardless, she continued to draw. After a while of scratching away with her quill, she was finally finished. A fully shaded, detailed centaur. Samna knew it wasn't her best, but she was still proud of it. Eager to show it off, she lightly tapped Satin on the shoulder.
"What do you think?" She pointed the drawing at her face, waiting for a reply.
I hope she likes it. Samna thought to herself anxiously.
