'Music' To The Ears
Renelle was definitely not the most musical person. Far from it, in fact- whenever she sang, cats ran away, meowing like they’d just been threatened with a whisker-removal treatment. The first time that had happened at her cousin’s place, she’d been a bit offended, but since then, she’d come to terms with this simple fact- Renelle Dalton could not do music.
Which was why it was surprising that the very girl was now sitting on the piano bench, in the rehearsal room of Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. Sure, there had been a few chairs stacked in a corner of the room, but it was really a lot of trouble to get them down, and it was weird to sit in a lone chair in the middle of a huge empty room.
Carefully, she stumped a few chords on the guitar in her lap, one selected from the large variety the room had to offer. Or tried to, anyway. The horrible sound that reverberated throughout the room made the Ravenclaw cringe, flinching slightly. Really, the wonderful acoustics of the place only made it worse.
Why was she been attempting to play the guitar? Well, for one, she was really bored, and having had previous experience in the instrument, the first year wrongfully thought that she might actually be able to make a sound which somewhat resembled a musical note. She had been really, really mistaken about that.
Her dad had actually been the one who was hopeful that their daughter would turn out to be a musical prodigy, having supposedly been in a band himself, when he was at Hogwarts. Sadly, he was sorely disappointed, for it became apparent that whatever musical genes he had, Renelle had been born without, the moment she stepped foot into a singing class. The teacher actually started crying by the third lesson.
Then he tried to make her switch to guitar, without much luck either. At least it was something to kill time with, which was what Renelle was doing right now. She attempted to play another note, but it came out sounding like a dying lawn mower. Really, she’d always thought that it was extremely difficult to mess up the guitar (not like the violin, that thing was impossible), but somehow, she managed it.
Whatever, it wasn’t like anyone was here to witness her music. Shifting her guitar so that part of her lap was uncovered, the Ravenclaw dug around in her pockets, finally producing a pair of earplugs. She put them on, then positioned her guitar once more, starting to play.

'Music' To The Ears

Soon to meet @Renelle Dalton
Some days it just seemed like he had it all together. Projects were complete, essays were written, and subjects were studied. What now? It was too sunny right now to do broom racing practice for this dhampir's liking and AngelFyre was off on some sort of prefect duty so he decided he would dedicate some of this time to musical endeavors.
Music was never a wrong idea.
Simon packed up his magical satchel and headed to the Rehearsal Room to practice. As he got closer, he heard some odd distorted sort of chord progressions that seemed reminiscent of 90s grunge music. Interesting choice.
When he came through the heavy wooden doors, he glanced up to see the portraits sort of cowering in the corner of one particular corner, huddled together almost like baby bunnies would do when they thought they were in danger. One seemed to perk up when they saw Simon enter - whether that be because they recognized him from the many times he occupied this space or they thought he might come to save the day or for whatever other reason.
Inside a little crocheted homemade pocket that rested outside Simon's enchanted satchel, a gray rat stirred. The sound was disturbing his mid-afternoon nap which he always took after his late-morning nap that fell right after his mid-morning nap which occurred shortly after he woke, but always after breakfast.
"That's very Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Bush sort of music with maybe a bit of Sonic Youth thrown in," Simon said as he approached the girl. She didn't seem to have noticed that he came in, which was odd since the door made a somewhat loud creaking noise. That loud noise was always so annoying back in his early years when he'd try to sneak in there a little later than he was supposed to be out and about.
Simon had yet to notice her ear plugs.

For some ludicrous reason, the entire time Renelle was in the rehearsal room, and on her way there as well, she had not even remotely considered the possibility of someone else disturbing her appalling guitar-playing, whether by accident or through a love of music themselves. On hindsight, it was a rather neglectful mistake on her part, especially with the time, and the fact that in the entire castle, only a single room dedicated to practicing music had been built.
The proof was what was happening right now. Indeed, the girl had been so absorbed in the guitar on her lap, she had failed to notice any sort of commotion in her surroundings- someone could have walked right up to her, and she would have kept on strumming. Point: someone did.
Surprisingly, it actually took quite a long time The Ravenclaw’s head was bent low over the guitar, so that she was oblivious to what was going on right in front of her, completed engrossed in her ghastly performance. Letting out a deep breath of exhaustion, she finally looked up- only to let out a yell of shock, practically leaping up from her seat. The guitar tumbled from her lap, landing smack on the foot of her intruder.
An intruder- that was the cause of Renelle’s distress. A dark-haired boy most likely several years older than herself, to be precise. Strangely enough, he seemed a bit familiar, though she could not, for the life of her, why this was. Maybe he was some sort of prefect?
Hopefully not, however, for that would mean that she had just dropped her rather heavy guitar on a prefect, extremely hard. Despite her few rule-breaking instances before, she had not gotten in any sort of official trouble yet, and had no interest in changing that.
All this went through Renelle’s mind in a split second, as she quickly tugged off her ear plugs, making a mental note to chuck them down the Ravenclaw tower later. They had been the cause of all this to begin with, and what was the point of living in the highest common room, with the trouble of walking up all those stairs each day, if she wasn’t going to make use of the fact?
As the guitar tumbled onto the ground, the resulting loud crash reverberated throughout the room, causing her to flinch, yet failed to make any moves to retrieve her particular musical instrument, the chaos of earlier causing the simple thing known as 'common sense' to slip momentarily from her mind.
“Uh, sorry.” At least regaining her senses, Renelle ducked down as fast as she could, picking the guitar up, then realized there wasn’t anywhere nearby she could put it, eventually resorting to holding it awkwardly.Feeling sorry toward @Simon KincaidReducioOOC note: Not sure if dropping stuff on people counts as godmodding, but just case, permission was given by Simon’s writer.

Rambling to @Renelle Dalton
"Usually the great rockstars wait until after their show is over to smash their guitar," he smiled. "Then again, usually I'm not assaulted upon entering the Rehearsal Room, but here we are."
There were so many different types of music, some more melodic than others, so he wasn't exactly sure if she had been trying to play that way deliberately as her style or self expression or if she was in need of some refreshers on the guitar.
"From one musician to another, just a small tip. I'd lose the ear plugs," he said and noticed one of the portrait people behind him nodding in agreeance and extending out their hand, as if suggesting that Simon should collect her ear plugs and give them to him after that ...... stellar performance. The portrait person even tried to point to where the ear plugs were currently located to try and assist Simon.
"You can't fully get the tone and quality through them. You've got the feel the music completely - with your mind and your soul."
Wow, did he sound cheesy enough? Perhaps. It wasn't intentional but music was one of Simon's driving passions in life - along with love and his faith.
"Sorry, I don't mean to be sounding like a music teacher here. It's also about expression so you do you, you know?"
Still, he wasn't quite sure this was exactly her type of music if she was attempting to drown it out herself.

Wow, talk about sounding cheesy. When the older student had first disturbed Renelle’s peace, she had expected lots of things, none of which had been a music lecture to rival those of the fifty-something year old teacher appointed by her dad years ago.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to assault you.” She said bluntly. “Though I can’t say it’s one musician to another, seeing as I’m not much of a musical person. I’m guessing you are, though,” She added. “What with the whole speech and all. Very insightful.”
It did not sound like a detention would be in her near future, from this encounter anyway. The Prefect seemed far more interested in correcting her techniques than getting mad, for which she was thankful. If she had the power to get someone who had just dropped a large instrument on her foot in trouble, she couldn’t say she wouldn’t pass up the opportunity.
Lucky that she wasn’t in a position of power, or the student body would certainly be receiving a lot mere detentions. Though now that the drama was over, Renelle honestly just wanted to get out of there as fast as she could, before she could smash his foot with any more things.
That did feel a bit rude though. Suddenly, she caught sight of a grey shape inside what appeared to be a pocket sew onto his bag. “And, uh, nice rat.”Interacting with @Simon Kincaid

Talking with @Renelle Dalton
"You've got to be a bit of a musical person to be in here practicing the guitar - or at least wishing one was a bit of a musical person." It was sort of a given. Someone wouldn't be set up somewhere with an easel and canvas and an assortment of paints and brushes if one didn't want to paint or at least attempt to paint. Not unless they were dragged there by someone else but as far as Simon could tell, the other girl was the only one there in the Rehearsal Room.
"Uh, thanks," he said, not sure if 'nice' was a way someone should use to describe Rascal. He was problematic, he was impulsive, he was moody, but ocassionally he could be nice - so sure. Simon smiled at that thought as he lifted down the pocket some so she could see him a little more. "This is Rascal, my ocassionally nice rat," he smiled. "He likes to give me trouble like it's some sort of fun game for him. I don't know if that means I'm a problematic owner or maybe that's just how some animals are. You have any experience with them? Any pets yourself?"
And an afterthought crossed his mind as well. He didn't know the girl's name. "Oh, I'm Simon Kincaid. Hello." He was pretty sure he had seen her around before, but didn't have a name to place with the face.
