Just read up on the morning minecraft talk - you are mostly falling into what they wanted with the revolution (or not). The point was to engage the community with a vote and if they get 'mad' and get 'the man' they have also put a massive spotlight on their product. At worst, they give you what they have already tooled. It is a win-win for the development team.
There is something about ambition, how it not only propels you but also defines you.
