Of Water and Fears

It was another partly cloudly...well fully cloudy day really. There was a mildly strong breeze blowing, causing the water near the sandy shores of the great lake to lap along the edges. It was a bit nippy to be totally honest however that was okay. Least that's what the red head who was barefoot at the moment standing near the waters edge would be saying.
Yes it was Quinn and again there he was seemingly about to break a rule of Hogwarts. He wasn't of course, especially since Quinn himself was now a prefect. Had to set a good example and what now.
No...you see Quinn was here for an entirely different reason. One that stemmed from a deep seated trauma. It's why the cold didnt bother him at the moment, the small nipping at his reddened toes minuscule in comparison to the wall he faced. The blue of his green tinted eyes focused in a trance like state on the lapping water of the sandy lake shore.
They were wide, so wide in face one could practically take a swan dive right into them. Wind blew his thick curly locks of fiery orange hair in nearly every direction but forward of course. Dressed in the usual black school robes black and yellow scarf firmly wrapped around his long but thin neck. If one were to approach him they would notice that his lanky body would be trembling albeit subtly. Quinn was practically stiff as a board unable to move. The water nearly touched his toes each time. The closer it got it seemed the more violent his shaking grew more intense.
Allst the while the young prefect had been muttering something seemingly incomprehensible. He had gone to confront his fears but instead yet again he just caused his trauma to come back stronger then before. The damned dafty could barely even move just standing there like some soddin eijit!

Of Water and Fears

The view of the Great Lake from afar was nice, until she saw a trembling lanky boy.
The walks Rosie took around the Great Lake were relaxing, to put it in one word. She typically went out when she wasn't particularly feeling good, it helped her relax her thoughts. The other reason was for when she didn't feel like dancing, or the Ballroom was occupied. The first reason, however, applied to the current day.
Rosie had started to brush off the bullying she received on more than one occasion, mostly because it was for the same thing. Muggle parents, muggle parents, muggle parents. Mudblood, mudblood, mudblood. It felt like it was a record on repeat. But just because she was starting to brush the insults off, didn't mean it didn't hurt. There seemed to be a small vendetta people had against Hufflepuffs, as well. Rosie just came to the conclusion she'd be the victim of some nasty insults throughout her school years. She knew there was a possibility of it getting worse when it got out that she had two dads, but it wasn't like she hid that fact. Rosie told Elijah without a second thought just days before.
While Rosie was lost in her thoughts, she glanced up to see a figure at the water, trembling. Immediately, her face fell into a frown. She hated, absolutely hated people scared. It made them feel weak, she knew that all too well. Rosie could name multiple parts of her early first year, where her old bully would shoot out any insult he could think of, and she'd just stand there, trembling. She never wanted anyone to feel like that.
She decided to approach him, adjusting her scarf slightly. Her soft green eyes fell on the lake, and then on the boy. On closer inspection, she realized it was her fellow prefect, Quinn Healy. They didn't talk often, but they had crossed paths. She thought he was sweet, he usually had a gentle expression that allowed people to approach him without issue. But it was different, he looked scared.
She cautiously walked up to him. "... Hey. Quinn, right? Are you okay?" Rosie asked, seeing how close he was to the water. "Can I do anything?" She moved her head to he could see her, frowning.

Of Water and Fears

Quinn was suddenly snapped out of his panic induced paralysis by someone he had rarely seen but knew. It was the young Rosie Parker, and his fellow prefect of Hufflepuff. She was an interesting lass if he was being totally honest. Always meant to talk to her, but things always came up. A new item piqued his interest or he simply just delved right into his studies like the good bookworm he was. After all he did have the goal of reading every single book in the Hogwart's library by the time he graduated. And he truly meant every book. He didn't know how he would manage the more difficult content but he would find a way somehow.
Anyway he was getting off topic again, no doubt having zoned out probably. He now noticed the frown she sported having not caught her words, but being this close to such a large body of deep, unknown, vast, dark...he started to hyperventilate getting flash backs to when he nearly drowned as a child. This wasn't good. This was not good at all, he needed to calm down. "P-Pull...away...please pull me away!" He frantically and quickly spoke.
Quinn's body trembled like a damn wee leaf. He really needed to get over this idiotic fear of his. An he definitely could no longer try confronting this fear stubbornly on his own again. Lest he wanted a repeat of the current time. Speaking of which he kept looking at Rosie pleadingly still unable to really move from where he was.

Surely enough, it was Quinn.
When Rosie approached him, he was seemingly panicked. It was made more apparent when he started begging for her to pull him away. Her eyebrows furrowed in concern and confusion, but she nodded. "Okay, just calm down, alright? You're okay." She took his arm and pulled him back from the water. She didn't know why he was panicking so much when he wasn't even in the water yet, but everything had their thing. Rosie had a really bad fear of hospitals! The thought of them made her anxious, and she hated even stepping near them. Whatever Quinn was feeling right now, the paralyzing fear, maybe in some sense, she understood.
Once she had taken a few steps back away from the water, Rosie took a step in front of him and took his arms lightly. Instead of looking at the water, Quinn would be looking at her, and for the moment, it's what she had to do. She stood there for a second before letting go, putting her hands behind her back. “So, uh… Are you okay? Can I do anything? You seemed really scared.” She rubbed her arm lightly, pausing before speaking again. “I know I wouldn’t be able to understand what you’re going through, with the water and all that, but I know what it’s like to be scared.” She shrugged.
Rosie nodded her head towards the grass near them, adjusting her robe sleeves lightly and pressing her tongue against her teeth. She took a small breath and addressed him once again, “we can sit down and talk, if that’d make you feel any better. Sometimes talking things out, helps you get the load off.”

After a minute of thought he took her offer and swallowed his pride. He sat down in the grassy area next to her. Still a bit of a wee shaking mess. It was so dumb that his trauma was still this bad. Like how weak did one have to be to be afraid of some dumb idiotic water.
But then again it was fascinating too because then that meant there was some complex processes going from your brain to your body that triggered said fearful reaction. Even more interesting was the possibility that the reaction was remembered by the body solely and not the brain but then again that would not account for his panic attacks and anxiety.
Before he knew it he was speaking all these thoughts out loud. His freckled thin fingers perched on his chin as he frowned and thought all of this out. He practically went into a trance like state forgetting the water was there until he didn't 5 minute slater realizing Rosie was still there. How long had she just been standing there she wandered sitting down or wait was she? "Feck... I went into one of my states again didn't I." He was terribly red and embarrassed as he groaned.
"Well what do ya want to know Ro Ro?"
