Awkward Silence, Hidden Tears PV Falentra Closed

6 pm
There in the cold evening, leaned against a bark sat a young boy. He had a woolen hat draped over his head, protecting his ears against the assault of the freezing winter breeze. The young boy sat close to the tree, staring ahead on the pond of water known a the Great Lake, while he grabbed his legs, holding them close to his body, making himself small.

The young Gryffindor liked to visit this place, it was always calm and just such a pretty place. With all the creatures residing in the pond, creatures that he had yet to learn about and he hoped he would. The Gryffindor had skipped dinner as he could not bring himself to get some food, the realization that he would not spend christmas with his father nor his mother hit him earlier that day and it hit him hard. He was not used to this and was not sure how to think about this. He was afraid, he did not want this tradition to be thrown away… he wanted his father to be alright and he wanted everyone to be happy! It was Christmas so why was he sitting alone in front of a lake crying his eyes out?

The icy breeze would rustle through the trees, pulling away the last few leaves from the branches, those few that surprisingly had survived until such a short time before christmas. Raising his gaze, the young boy stared ahead into the night sky. A calm night with just a few clouds hiding away the moon and the stars of the darkened sky.

Here Alan sat as warm, salty tears pooled in his eyes, running down over his delicate cheeks and dripping from his chin. He was allowed to cry… there was no one around to see him so he could show his tears. Hiding them away hurt, it put a pressure on his chest and mind and crying relieved it ever so slightly. He told himself as he wiped away the tears from his face with the sleeve of his warm coat.

The night had fallen fast upon The Great Lake. No more than an hour ago the sky was surrounded with hues of red, orange and hints of pink, but all colour had suddenly faded, leaving only a matt black canvas with barely any stars in sight to be admired upon. It was a quiet night, one that made the atmosphere eerie, yet somewhat dull from all the darkness surrounding Falentra. All that seemed to exist was the bitter cold wind that’s harsh bite could be felt through her long cloak. She could feel the hairs on her arms raise and the bite of the wind had left its mark in the form of small bumps that were tingling on her skin.

By the time the Syltherin had reached the Great Late, the winds had picked up, becoming harsher due to no trees being in sight, nothing there to protect and block the girl any more.
It barely bothered her. Sure, it was colder than normal, but her eyes were now fixated out into the opening of the pond. To the eye, it was neverending, like an ocean, but a place like this contained creatures that no ocean could ever have.

It was then when Falentras attention was drawn over towards the sound of a child whimpering. It was coming not far from where she was, just over by a few stranded groups of trees. She walked over slowly and quietly, curious to see what it was. It sounded like a boys cry, but she was unsure as to why anyone would be out here at such a time. Of course, someone could ask her the same thing.

A small figure came into sight. One that was curled up into a ball like a lost little puppy.
A brow raised in confusion from Falentra. She was unsure on how to act in this situation. Was she to go over and ask if they were okay? Or was she to leave them there alone? They came all the way out here after all, so it was most likely the case. Instead, she just crouched down to her knees and rested her elbow on her leg, followed by her chin resting in the palm of her hand, observing the boy. She made out faint red markings on his cloak. He was a student. A... A Gryffindor.
Falentra scrunched up her face in disgust, like a child throwing a mini tantrum, except this being through just facial expressions.

A grunt of annoyance left her lips before she stood up once more and made her way closer to him, knowing now that there was no threat ahead of her.
After she was only a few steps away from him, she came to a halt and stared down at him. Obviously, this was the part where someone would normally say 'Hello' or, 'Are you okay?' But no, not Falentra. She simply stared down with folded arms, unsure on how to communicate in such a situation.

The young Gryffindor ssd there, on the dirty ground with his legs propped up so that his knees rested against his chest. His chin rested on his knees the rough fabric of his pants feeling a bit itchy on his chin, but in this moment the you boy could not bother less about the discomfort of the position he found himself in. Of course he could not bother about much at all at the moment, not about the way he sullied his robe by sitting on the muddy ground right next to the Great Lake and wiping off his tears on the sleeves. He should be glad that his parents were not here to scold him or to be real only his mother would scold him, giving him a talk about cleanliness and attitude while his father would just give one of his deep rumbling laughs before ruffling his hair. Alan missed these moments; deep in thought he would reach up to twist one of his hazelnut brown strands. The Gryffindor’s fingernails were framed by a layer of mud but then again what kind of child would care about that? He could simply shower it off in a hot shower later when he felt like it. That was for whenever the young boy got the strength to get up and go back to the castle.

He was so lost in his own mind that he did not even notice the sound of footsteps that caused the fallen leaves to rustle and small twigs to break under the weight of another person. He only got pulled out of the sea of thoughts when he felt a stare linger on his body for a weird amount of time. With a last sniffle he quickly wiped off the tears before he looked up at the other person. A girl around his age, making him tilt his head. Alan's eyes were puffy and red, stressed by the salty tears.

”Wh-what?”

How was she to respond to that? A simple 'what' was far too complicated for her to feel the need to explain herself, to explain why she came over because, in all honesty, she had no idea herself. She did not care for him, obviously since she knew nothing of the boy, but still... No words came to mind.
Her gaze just remained on him for a minute longer, then having them shift off behind him into the distance, drifting off into another trail of thought.

Situations such as these weren't something Falentra was used to, hence the silence and awkwardness that she was probably giving off. Had she grown up during her earlier years with children her age would have made her so much more talkative and confident in approaching others. Instead, she spent most her childhood in her Father's Potions Shop studying books of all sorts. She didn't look the type, or the type to brag about it or even show it, but she was actually clever and had a lot of knowledge of the world even at the age of Twelve.
But this wasn't about Falentra— at least not now. It was about Alan, who she had yet to know anything about.

Falentras eyes flickered back once again, but this time her eyes were half closed, a sigh leaving her mouth once more. She was here now, so getting up and leaving would have just made the situation become that more awkward for her. She knew she had to say something soon, but what exactly... She was still working on that.
She started off by making herself more comfortable, letting him know through her actions that she had no intention of moving anywhere any time soon. Letting her weight fall back, she fell back and swung her legs crossed. ''... So... I should ask... What is wrong is wrong with ya?'' Upset. That was the answer she already knew just from the tears that fell from his eyes and down onto his rosy cheeks, but it was making a conversation so it didn't matter to her if she was stating the obvious that didn't really need an explanation to, on her behalf anyway.

The young Gryffindor raised his gaze just enough so that he could look at the girl with a rather short hair cut. It went to brush her neck barely above her shoulder; slightly longer than his own hair that reached chin length. Her hair was of a lovely black color though, while his face was framed in a hazelnut brown. She looked nice, even though she looked way different than Elena, not only because of her looks but also because her energy seemed different. She seemed more calm, thinking mature maybe? He wondered as he rubbed his sleeve over his face again, trying to erase all traces of his tears.

Wrong with him? Was there something wrong with him? Right.. The crying. Alan was quick to shake his head, maybe a bit too quick? Would he seem suspicious now? He should better make up an excuse, right?

”N-no... I didn't cry- it was... it was snow that flew in my face... I just wiped it off...”, he tried and failed making up this excuse. He was never good at lying because he just did prefer to say the truth but he could not just show his weakness to anyone, right? He hoped he was convincing enough, but in the way he averted his eyes and nervously shuffled around it was questionable if she would buy his bad act.

He was definitely crying. There was no confirmation needed at this point, or any to begin with, really. His stuttering and overall expressions were a massive giveaway. But, she wasn't going to embarrass him in proving that she, in fact, could blatantly see the tears down his face. Instead, she turned her head off to the side and scanned around in the field beside them.

There were patches of grass that had managed to fight the tough winter, but the majority of the land was covered in layers of pure white snow. The sections with grass had a few weeds poking out, along with a few, and by that, there were barely any, but flowers. How there were any flowers that had made it through this season baffled her, but she wasn't complaining. It was exactly what she was looking for in fact. Their conditions weren't the greatest, but the majority of petals were still hanging on, and the colours made it stand out from the dull atmosphere surrounding them.
Reaching out to the right of her, she plucked the flower from the ground and brought it back to her chest, dusting off any remaining snow or general dirt from it before leaning forward and handing it to him.

She wasn't sure if he would take it from her. Flowers had always been seen as a more 'girly' thing to be around or to be given as a gift, but she knew the gesture she was making was a kind one, so the fact that she was doing some good was all that matter the most, right? She wasn't entirely sure, to answer that question. Awaiting his reaction was the only thing on her mind at the moment. Her expression filled with worry, something she couldn't control. Furrowed brows and eyes that seemed to hold fear. All for a flower. But it was more than that to her. She wanted to know if her actions were defiantly the right choice and approach when it came to trying to cheer someone up.
Falentra was just so used to doing the opposite when it came to confrontation or general chit-chat. An instant insult of the sort made the majority of people just keep their distance from her. She was the master of making enemies, but the worst of the worst in making friends.

Alan took at the girl with the darker set of hair, his eyes puffy and swollen with red patches beneath it where the salty tears had irritated his soft skin. The lashes that framed his eyes were coated by his tears making them appear as if they clung together. He watched her cautiously as she shifted around a bit and was surprised when she held a flower between her fingers. It seemed fragile in the cold weather, but still it must be a strong fighter flower to have survived until now, ignoring the cold weather and still blooming slightly.

The young Gryffindor snuffled not quite elegantly and took the flower after a few seconds of just staring at it. ”Th-thanks”, he whispered, as he twirled the little plant between his fingers, admiring its beauty. This girl gave him a flower and why Alan did not understand why, he appreciated the small but friendly gesture. Was it maybe to cheer him up? He could pretend it helped, so he send a smile in her direction, even though it did not quite reach his eyes. Still he was visibly calming down now, as his shoulders relaxed and he slumped back against the tree he was leaning against.
