It seemed the younger girl did value Ruby’s time, as she succinctly ended the conversation when she had presumably learned everything that she wanted. It was considerate to Ruby as well as effective for the girl maximizing her own time, and the Slytherin found herself faintly appreciating the action, the smallest of smiles curling her lips. She gave the girl a nod as she thanked Ruby for her time, and then the younger year walked away. It occurred to Ruby that she didn’t even know the name of the girl she had been speaking to, but that didn’t much concern her. She would recognize her if they ever happened to interact again, and if she followed Ruby’s advice or otherwise made a name for herself, Ruby would surely learn her name quickly. And if she didn’t gain a reputation significant enough for her name to reach Ruby’s ears? Well, then, it wasn’t worth knowing.

Whether or not the girl had learned something from this conversation and chose to seize opportunities based on it was none of Ruby’s concern. It was the younger year’s own life, and it was her job to make her own way and sift through available information to find the pieces that would be useful to her specifically. There would be no personal investment in her success or failure from Ruby’s end, besides a vague interest that would be further sparked or fade away depending on how the younger’s reputation developed. Still, the girl had been more polite than most, and seemed like she had enough interest in her goals to follow through with them. Perhaps she would accomplish something worth hearing about. But soon, Ruby reached the library, and thoughts of anything non-academic faded as she took a seat.
