Morfran Griffith

Hogwarts Stables

December 26th, 2018

Dear @Morfran Griffith ,

I understand you are a busy man, however I find myself seeking the company of animals, and I cannot come up with a BS reason meaningful reason to visit your classroom again. I understand I was already pushing it last time, so I figured it would be best to send a letter, instead of simply showing up at your door. You can ignore me easier this way, if you have more pressing matters, yes?

Anyhow, I also found that I actually enjoyed your company surprising, right?, for some reason (possibly the fact that you are more direct than most students and have a limited filter, tolerance whise) so against my better judgement, I am writing still, and risking getting told off for a conversation with someone that will not hesitate to tell me to F off if they do not want to talk, unlike most students. There is something reassuring about your honesty.

Also, You may be pleased to hear I won’t be bothering you again, for I headed your advice and found a way to keep from getting overwhelmed in crowds. Although a new problem has arisen, sadly. Pain. Surprising how that happens when you get your spine severed in two places. Though that is off topic.

Again, feel free to ignore the owl.

Apologies,
Rowan Bane

Dear Mr. Bane

I understand the need to interact with animals. The ROAM event you signed up for will be taking place shortly, which would be a perfect opportunity for you to come and relax. You could even try to make a few friends while you're at it. The best way to break the ice is over little creatures. Just give it a shot, if you're up for it.

Speaking of honesty, an implied curse word is still unappreciated. As a Gryffindor, you are representing the house of chivalry. I would appreciate no more implied profanity. That said, as a professor, part of my job is to be reachable by any students that need assistance. Writing me an owl is not going to get you told off, and, provided you give me sufficient notice, neither is stopping by for a visit.

I assume that means you have found a few friends are keeping you occupied. If this is the case, then I offer my congratulations. And I do hope that you will not use a spine fracture as a reason to not attend the next ROAM event.

Dear Professor,

I have found that true from experience as well. I assume you already know this but there are quite a few bunnies out on the grounds this time of year. I met one of my good friends while I was feeding one. So it yes, I will ‘give it a shot.

On another note... Would you rather me say it in french, so you cannot understand said implied profanity? In all honesty, I apologise. I will try my best to keep it from happening in the future, for the sake of your oh so tender ears. And I do suppose I do need your assistance in order to visit the animals. It’s not as easy as when I was just at home and could visit the stables to see what creature was getting delivered that day.

And I am positively offended (not) that you would even start to think I would miss a ROAM meeting! Sad really. Where else would I get such sage advice from the resident old cat lady? (Please don’t murder me for that one.)
I’m excited to meet the rest of the kruppies. I was thinking of names for them the other day.

Dear Mr. Bane

I find it amusing how you assume that I would not understand your French. And how you seem to not grasp the purpose of chivalry. Would you stop being chivalrous if you were talking with an enemy, or a babe? Chivalry is something you do for yourself. It is merely expected that you focus on this more because the hat decided that you were able. So my tender ears do not really play a part.

And no, you do not need my assistance. You might appreciate some, and it is always nice to be helped, but you do not need it. Wheelchair or no, you are another student, you are in Gryffindor, and you are strong. If you do not think you can achieve these expectations yourself, then I will give you the means, and then push you harder. And before you think about running yourself ragged, being in good physical and mental health is included in these demands.

I look forward to seeing you there. On time.

Dear Professor Griffiths,

I know both the meaning and purpose of chivalry, even though I may not practice it as often as I may like. I do believe however, you do not grasp the concept of sarcasm, although I may be wrong.

As for assistance I do not mean I need help in the way you described. I quite literally mean, I physically cannot access the stables without going through you. At least for magical creatures that is.  The bunnies seem fond of the treats I carry. They come out quickly when I’m in the snow.

May I also point out you are very dead set on fact that I am Gryffindor? It seems to be almost the only real quality you care to define me by. It does not personally bother me, but for the sake of those more fragile of heart, I suggest you come up with better reasons for the standards you set rather than simply, ‘It is expected of you as you are a Gryffindor.’

As for being on time, I plan to leave early. Less risk of the former issue that way.

Dear Mr. Bane

The lesson will not be held within the stables, and therefore the problem is nonexistant. It will be held outside the stables, in the snow. And while I have tried a passing attempt at sarcasm now and again, I tend to not use it in owls when addressing students, as it can tend to cause confusion.

Here is where I would like to point out that I know next to nothing about who you are. I do not know what drives you, if anything. I do not know if you know what you want to be when you grow up. All I know for certain is that when the sorting hat was placed on your head it decided that this was where you belonged. And that is good enough for me. If you would rather, I could instead invoke the potential disapproval of the wild rabbits. However I do not think saying "the rabbits would be sad if you weren't a good boy" will do much good.

Dear Mr. Cat lady sir,

In that, you are correct. Sarcasm is fleeting in writing most often. And for all our sakes, I will keep it to a minimum from now on.

And you made me laugh with the last few lines, just so you know.
I look forward to seeing you for the meeting.

Has been mislabeled. It was mistakenly sent to "Morfran Griffith" Instead of "Mr. Cat lady" as intended. Please address your owls properly from now on, or it could lead to some very confusing situations.

Dear Morfran Griffith,

Your reaction reminds me of a muggle child holding a wand, and simply saying ‘this is a stick.’ While they may be correct, they do not see it’s purpose. Maybe I ought to call you blunt blade.

I cannot decide whether or not it is amusing in and of itself that you choose to either take my jokes quite literally, or ignore them in it’s entirety.  Though (I do not know how to correctly translate this into English and still keep it’s meaning) Quand on a pas ce que l’on aime, il faut aimer ce que l’on a. It basically means want what you have, and you will be content, though that rough translation does not do it justice. The annoyance of a second language. Sayings often do not translate well.

I also saw a child with a thestral mask in the library earlier. It was interesting.

Anyhow, now adressing correctly,
Rowan Bane

Dear Mr. Bane

Ah yes, the annoyance of a second language. It occurs to me that there are several ways to use a second language, should one have had the time to learn one. You could save the other language for communicating with others speaking the same language, or you could occasionally casually mention how you know this other language. There are already enough people In this school that seem to beg for someone to acknowledge this apparent talent of theirs. That said, this is more of a cautionary warning, and less of an admonition.

On a different note, I do not need you to translate for me.

As for the boy in the thestral mask, it's probably just some fourth year trying to be cool. For some reason, everyone and their dog seem to think that dark and misunderstood creatures are the best. Especially thestrals. I think it satisfies not only their dreams of wanting a pony, but also allows them to feel interesting. The muggles have actually made quite a bit of money on this phenomenon.
