What Influenced your Writing Style? OOC

I tried it multiple times and realized that if you mention house names, you almost automatically get J.K. Rowling.

@Finley McGill, I mentioned house names on a few of mine and got Stephen King almost all of the time, it’s one exception of JK Rowling... maybe I’ll have to do one of my non-HP related stories...

I think I've been mostly influenced by prominent fantasy authors. Tolkien, Terry Brooks, Terry Goodkind, R.A. Salvatore, etc. That said, I try to explore my own idea of what I want to read. I have been working on trying to paint both the world, using descriptions in a non-tedious way, and trying hard to follow through on 3-dimensional character development. I also tend to work with more elevated language and find myself trying to simplify to ensure better communication with the reader. It had been a difficult transition into creative writing from being a primarily expository writer. So I think I'm still in general development. I asked a friend to summarize what they think my style of writing is, and this is the response I received: "Uncommon vocabulary mixed with a descriptive dramatic type of writing". 

On the "I Write Like" site, I got Anne Rice. 

My writing style comes from how I want to present my character, how I adapt from other people's styles, and reading books. Usually if I admire an author I take off from them in some way, maybe. It all really depends on what my goal is.

I've definitely adapted my style while writing with others. I've become less strict on myself over the years too. Grammar and punctuation might not be correct but I'm having fun with it and that's what matters, right?

I'll say I adapted my writing style while writing with other individuals. Similar to Dymphna! I used to always write in French as it is my native language, but since February I've been writing in English and I've adapted my style from doing RP with others on HiO and other top secret stuff.  

I've formed my writing style based on what I've seen from others, and experience. However, I believe there is a lot to improve my writing style. I do not have a ton of experience with RPs, but I do have a fair amount so sometimes it takes me awhile to think of how to form what I want to say and do. I'm also fairly lazy when it comes to typing, so I tend to not put all my effort into a response. I also don't have that great of a vocabulary. I would say it's above average, but there could definitely be an improvement. I do happen to enjoy reading other people's RPGs, and I take notice of their writing styles. I wanna eventually make my writing style have more of a "professional" kind of feel to it.

In the I write like quiz I posted a original character bio and got Arthur Clarke. While I know of some of his work, I haven't read any of it. Some of my favorite authors growing up were obviously JK, CS Lewis, JRR, and Dan Brown. I was and still am a huge fantasy nerd. As I grow older my favorite authors are Kurt Vonnegut and Anthony Burgess, hands down. To balance myself out I read a Nicholas Sparks novel monthly. Not really I hate that guy. Nothing against those that appreciate him of course.

My style has and always will be centered around dialogue and character interactions. I will admit I'm weak at descriptions. Of setting, character appearances, what have you. I just bore myself to death when I try to start describing the atmosphere around my characters. I enjoy describing the thoughts and feelings of all the people in a specific scene. Even the ones that don't have much purpose to the central storyline. More than anything I want to make my fellow roleplayer smile or laugh when reading. I like to develop a character by showing how they react to things. The more character interactions, the more power I have in telling the reader how my character thinks and what he believes deep down. Not to mention what he wishes others to believe.
