With such a massive castle to call a school and a home, so many things to learn in the future, and so many adventures already sparking around her, Harmony was bursting with stories to tell. But with no familiar faces around, no close friendships beginning to sprout, and no parents nearby, the only way to get the tiniest bit of her excitement out was to write home. Or talk to a portrait. But Harmony wasn't sure she trusted paint that much, either. Therefore, as she ascended the stairs to the owlery for the first and most definitely not last time, Harmony clutched a big piece of paper in her hand. It had been abused with endless inky scribbles that nearly ran off the page, folded in an attempt to look fancy, and the handwriting it contained most definitely changed several times throughout the duration of its writing. But it was bursting with wonder that Harmony's parents absolutely had to know of.

Harmony took her first step into the owlery and realized that she didn't actually know what she was supposed to do. She didn't have a personal owl and so could not ask it to go home. She hadn't asked anyone (or really properly talked to anyone since yesterday except Flint. And the Sorting Hat) for what to do. She was standing like a lemon in the owlery doorway, she realised, sidestepping to make way for an invisible person.
Well, here goes nothing. She thought, mustering up the courage she was supposed to have nurtured from all those nights spent onstage speaking in an English that no one understood.
"Hi," she began, stepping further into the room and looking around at all the owls. "Uhm, do any of you fancy taking my letter to my parents?"
Silence. A fluttering of wings.
"They live in London and uh, well-" she broke off, realising this was probably very stupid and she looked so silly and owls can't understand English you numpty but they're magical owls surely someone put it in their genetics to have some kind of bond to magic when thankfully, finally, an owl took pity on her and fluttered down.
"Hi!" Harmony greeted, stretching out her free arm for the owl to land on. "This is my letter. It's for my parents and the address is on the front of it but you probably can't read so-" she stated her address.
"Anyways uhm thank you for taking my letter. I don't think you'll have to wait around for them to write back because they might take a while but you could stay if you want because you'll probably be tired but uh anyways I really hope you understood that because this is kinda weird"
The owl gazed large, unblinking eyes into Harmony's soul.
"Great!" She smile-grimaced. "Well, that's it you can go now thank you"
And with that, the owl gave a peck to the air around Harmony's nose, turned, and swooped through the big windows with Harmony's letter clutched in its beak.

Cora was huffing and puffing. She'd only gone up about half the stairs - getting to the owlery was such a climb, she wondered what she was even doing; it wasn't like she had a letter, she'd just been curious. Cora wondered if this was an example of 'curiosity killing the cat'. Although, she was definitely more of a dog than a cat, so she quickly dismissed the thought. As Cora breathed in a deep breath of crisp air, she slapped her thighs like she would've done before racing her brother across the paddocks back home and gave her head a quick shake (a 'silly-shake' as her dad liked to call it - very helpful for preparing oneself mentally). She looked up at the ascending stairway and sighed a somewhat determined sigh - she could do this, and she WOULD do this!!!!!

*Cora proceeds to sprint up the stairs and grows a little dizzy in the process before reaching the top and crumpling into a hot and heavy heap at the landing.*

"Oof" Cora thought to herself. If Goat was here, he probably would've attacked her face with licks (dog kisses) and then conveniently placed himself on top of her. As Cora lay on the floor, she heard a voice from inside the tower - she scrambled up quickly and after doing another silly-shake to untangle her hair, she peered in through the cobblestone arch and saw a girl with blackblack hair who was... ALSO A HUFFLEPUFF??????

Cora couldn't believe her luck; maybe all those steps was worth it after all. The girl had been talking to herself (or to the owl in front of her?) and Cora deduced that she must've been trying to send a letter. Not wanting to barge in unexpectedly, Cora tiptoed under the arch and gazed in awe as the owl flapped its wings and swooped out the window with the stealth of a... well, owl.

Mmm, now is probably a good time to say something before I start looking like a creep...

Cora cleared her throat and walked over to the girl - "Hullo, I'm Cora-nice-to-meet-you-what's-your-name-I'm-a-Hufflepuff-too-wait-where's-your-dorm??" As usual, Cora was not very good at articulating her thoughts.

"Erm ya, anyways..."

The girl looked slightly amused (Cora hoped it was in a "let's be friends" sort of way and not a "you're weird, go away" kind of way).

Anyhow, Cora had a slight feeling that this also-in-Hufflepuff-girl with the blackblack hair would become her friend; and as she stared awkwardly at a small yellow-eyed owl in an attempt to avoid eye contact with the girl, she decided to be weird and go with the flow.

Cora stuck out her hand without a second thought and turned back to the girl with the blackblack hair.
"Let's be friends!"

Phew, that wasn't so bad : ' )

As the owl swooped away and through the window, Harmony heard a throat being cleared behind her and turned around to see a wavy-haired girl approach.
“Hullo,” The girl began.
“I’mCoranicetomeetyouwhat’syournameI’maHufflepufftoowaitwhere’syourdorm?” she suddenly blurted.
Harmony’s eyes widened and she glanced helplessly side-to-side. At what, she wasn’t sure. Maybe for someone to go woah this is funny or help me please at. Upon finding nothing, she looked back at Cora, who was now awkwardly umming, causing Harmony to realise she had not answered her yet.
“Oh! Uhm, sorry, I’m Harmony and it’s nice to meet you too!” She exclaimed, fiddling her hands about and trying to remember what else she had been asked. “Uhhh, my dorm? I’m in Plant Palace and there’s a big picture of Professor Sprout near the entry place. Are you anywhere nearby?”

Harmony looked back at Cora to listen to her answer, having allowed her eyes to drift as she visually recalled her room, and realised Cora also failed to keep human eye contact while answering and was now having a staring contest with a bird. Harmony’s lip quirked in amusement. They were both approximately the same age but Cora was just so cute!

A moment passed before Cora turned back to face Harmony, stuck out her hand, and announced that the two should be friends. Harmony had never made a friend quite so suddenly and quickly, but Cora’s energy was so… energetic and so contagious that Harmony couldn’t help but reach back and give her most firm handshake.
“Yes, let’s!” She exclaimed.

Hold on, Cora looked familiar… Harmony gasped, subconsciously pulling their intertwined hands towards herself. “It’s you!” Harmony wasn’t one to shout that someone she’d just met was some Chosen One, but again, she couldn’t help but feel free to do things in Cora’s presence. “I saw some First Year going crazy for their dinner last night and I laughed real hard and then choked and nearly died!” She explained, voice raising and hand grip tightening with an excitement of sorts. “And then everyone saw and it was really embarrassing and I had to talk to this dude who thinks we’re best friends which is kinda weird like he didn’t even ask me like you did but oh well.” She punctuated her story with wild hand movements, finishing with it going limp and falling back down.

The two had barely known each other for five minutes, but Harmony was already excited to see where the rest of the day, and possibly even the entire seven years would take them.
