Esme walked through the library, humming with a fun pitch in her voice. She looked at the many shelves and stacks of books, new old and everything in between. It was beautiful to her seeing all the genres of creativity. She grabbed about 5 books about the natural world and one on magical history. and with her hands now full she walked her way around, looking for a spot to sit.

She continued on her way, and as minutes passed she noticed people taking time to read and friends quietly giggling to each other. Some read for fun, others for study and after a while, Esme realized that there were very few seats to take, perhaps she should take a seat near one of the shelves, on the floor.

She was convinced that she had a good selection, however there was one thing she was lacking, a potions book. Potions was so interesting to her, to make a concoction out of random ingredients that would have a major effect, it was just super fun to try everything when it came to potions. But even better, would be magical history in China. She heard her parents talk about some things but she wanted to learn about that on her own. To find out all there is to know about China's magical history.

She put her stack down and looked about for a book to peak her interest, soon she realized she needed help and looked around her, silently pleading for a helper.

Alexa once again returned to the library, her comforting haven after a long and tiring class that drained Alexa of her energy. She looked around the room to see that her usual window table was taken and almost all the seats were occupied. Seeing no other option, she decided to grab a new book about magical animals, something that she found fascinating, and sit down. Alexa walked down the winding shelves until she found something she thought she would like and went to find a comfy spot. To her surprise, another girl with wavy black hair was also there, sitting on the ground. Alexa hesitated for a second and then decided to introduce herself and hopefully, meet someone new that would like her. Although Alexa had no trouble making friends in her muggle school, it was difficult to find somebody at Hogwarts who shared her bookishness and sense of humor.

"Hi!", Alexa said. "I'm Alexa from Ravenclaw. This is my first year here, do you mind if I sit here?". Alexa fiddled with her long, chestnut-brown hair nervously and sat down. Noticing that the girl was searching across the shelves carefully, Alexa assumed that she was looking for something specific. Alexa had spent most, or better to say all of her time outside of classes within the library. It was fair to say that she had explored the library and knew a good bit about it. "Not to interrupt you but are you looking for anything? I'd be happy to help", Alexa volunteered.

Esme was about to give up, she decided that she would probably have to search another time...that was until she saw someone unfamiliar come toward her. She looked at her nervously, wondering how this interaction would go.

She watched the girl hesitate but quickly begin speaking, she took it in before replying to the greeting. "Hello.", She gave an awkward smile, brushing off the fact that she was looking all over the place for help a few seconds ago. "Er..Nice to meet you, and not at all, sit where you like." She wondered if she was talking too much, if she blabbed on her answer too long, her eye contact faltered and she looked at the shelves for a moment longer.

Soon she would notice that Alexa spoke again, offering her some help. "I am...you see, I came here a few years ago and I was wondering...maybe...was there a book here on Chinese magic and history?" She looked at Alexa, her eyes showing sincerity. "My name is Esme, if that's what you wanna call me."

She twirled her hair a bit, making the curls more defined, then she stood upright, assuming that she would have to follow Alexa to the spot she was looking for. "Do you like books?" It seemed obvious, yet she had to know, just how serious Alexa was about them. "What kind?"

  • Italics - thought
  • Bolded - speaking

Alexa noticed that the new girl was a little shy but all her ideas went away once she started speaking. Alexa took a seat next to the girl once she said it was okay and continued to read her book until silence. filled the room like an empty void. Alexa was a little startled when the girl spoke again - she asked for a book on Chinese history and magic.

Oh! After the hours she spent in the library, this was the one thing she didn’t know. But, Alexa wasn’t just going to cut off the conversation like that. Oh well, she thought, I guess I’ll just manage along the way. “Yeah, I can help you find them. Maybe we should start checking in the shelves over there?”. Alexa realized that after all this, she still didn’t know the girl's name. She was about to ask before she introduced herself.

Alexa walked towards where she thought the book might be and Esme followed her. While they searched for it, both the girls chatted for a bit. "I absolutely love reading books!" Alexa exclaimed. "It feels like each book I read transports me to a whole new world. That's why I like fictional books so much.". Finally, Alexa found a book close to what she thought Esme might want called "The Magical Origins of Chinese History. "Honestly Esme, I have no clue where the book might have been but I really did like spending time with you", Alexa admitted, hoping that she wouldn't sound too desperate. "If you would like, can we sit together for breakfast? I don't really know anyone here yet..."

Esme's little cheeks turned rosy. "Wǒ shēn gǎn róng xìng. (I am honored)" She replies, knowing that Alexa might not understand her, but hopefully the tone was enough. "Thank you so much." She takes the book that was similar to what she wanted.

Esme nodded her head. "You're very cool, you should meet my friend Kristin one day." She grins, she heard he stomach growl, she was always extremely hungry during the morning. "I would love to sit with you, why don't we make our way now."

With that Esme began walking toward the great hall, a bounce in her step, she was in a good mood, making a new friend, climbing the ladder of popularity. Then she began singing and humming a song in Chinese, she was almost silent but it was noticeable. She looked toward Alexa before continuing with her song, she checked out the book, so she wouldn't get in trouble before walking out, not before holding the door. "What's your favorite breakfast food? I really like muffins." And as soon as she said that, she gave Alexa a perfectly wrapped and intact muffin in case she liked them. "Would you like to have this one, We're on our way to the 'hall anyway."
