”Verdimillious!” I screamed. A green light shot out of the tip of my wand. It had to hit her this time, it had to. I watched as it travel closer to her but she dodged it with ease. I frowned, very disappointed, maybe next time I should just purposefully not hit her and she’s move to it. What am i thinking, that’s stupid. Alyssea cast a spell that’s ounces a lot like the tickling charm. Someone had cast it on me before, it wasn’t very pleasant. I quickled moved out of the way to avoid having to experience that again, all of the laughing really made your stomach hurt too. I sighed out of relief when I managed to properly dodge Alysseas spell. I smiled at her brightly, I had been hot every time before this! As Zach had called out, no one had gotten hurt this round, but he seemed kind of… disappointed. I shrugged, he could be disappointed all he wanted, I didn’t get hit this time so I was proud! He readied us, before shouting start. This time, unlike all of the previous (2) spells I’d casted, I knew exactly what I was going to do this time!

She decided lowering Delainie's ability to move would take too much time from doing some real damage. Duels don't last very long and she needed to somehow spice this up. And no, not in the same way she spiced up her first duel; that was embarrassing.

(It was still a good start, just not an impressive one. You could tell she was experimenting.)

Alyssea pointed her wand and calmly said, "Rictusempra!"

It seemed her focus was getting much better because the silvery light from the spell was much stronger than the last. She kept her hold firm as she watched the spell fly towards its target.

Of course, all good things must come to an end and Delainie dodged it by a mile. She pouted, a bit bummed that the spell didn't hit. But she was also impressed at Delainie's skill. How was she still able to dodge so well with bubbles on her?

Before she could make a reply, she caught a glimpse of the blinding light from Delainie's wand. Alyssea closed her eyes and began the move. She knew exactly what that spell was and she was not potentially lose her sight over it. By the time she opened her eyes, no real damage had been dealt.

She could hear Zach's disappointment from her position on the piste and chuckled. Yeah, it was a bummer nothing interesting happened. She turned to Delainie and waved. "You're doing great!"

Zach anticipated what would happen in this round. "They can hit their spells right, can't they?" he thought. He took a look closer at Delainie. She seemed ready to cast her spell. Zach tried to guess what spell she wanted to cast. However, nothing happened. "Is she nervous?" Zach wondered. Then he turned his head immediately to see how the second year was doing. She also tried to cast a spell from Astronomy class. Zach was expecting a cloud to form above Delainie's head but nothing happened. The boy gave an oh-not-you-too look at the brown-haired girl. "Once again, no fun round." he thought.

"It seemed you two missed some basics in spell casting," Zach said. "Remember from the Charms class, imagination, clear pronunciation, and right wand movement. And you will cast the spell successfully." And suddenly he realized that he might annoy the girls with his words. No one wanted to hear a mini lecture in a fun game! "Sorry! Let's proceed to the next round." He just hoped that they wouldn't see him as an annoying know-it-all.

"Get to your position and prepare your stance again. Let's have a fun round" He said. "Are you guys ready?" He looked at both girls, making sure that they were ready. "Then, start!"

This next spell was, honestly, an impulsive choice. It was highly likely she wouldn't be able to pull it off, but what harm would there be if she couldn't cast it? It's not like the storm clouds would form over her head if she really failed it.

(They would and she was scared to face that.)

But there's always a first time for everything and, if it had to be this well, this was a good a time as any. The wand movement for the spell was very much like the spell she'd been practicing in Transfiguration from the Third Year syllabus. The only thing that really differentiated the two spells was 1. their incantation was significantly different and 2. this spell involved the entire arm rather than just a single ring above the head.

With a deep breath, Alyssea whispered, "Metelojinx."

She could feel the spell forming at her tip, but when she opened her eyes, there was... nothing. A hot feeling washed over her and her cheeks went red. It really happened, huh?

It seemed luck was also not on Delainie's side, because nothing happened with her, too. No spell to dodge and jump around. Welp.

"It seemed you two missed some basics in spell casting," Zach said.

Alyssea's ears continued to turn red as she listened to Zach's words. She thought her focus was quite good, considering her abilities in Transfiguration (the, objectively, harder spell class), but it seemed it wasn't quite enough. Picture your desired outcome, she added to Zach's list. If there was anything she took away from Transfiguration, it was to have a clear image in your head about your final outcome.

Oh well. No time to mull it over. There was still a few rounds left before this was over.

I saw Alyssea smile at me and tell me that I was doing great, I was about to say thank you when Zach told us to get ready to start again. I got nervous and immediately forgot what I was about to say to her, hoping that I wouldn’t get shot across the room. I took my spot and readied myself for some more casting. My wand was ready, and when it was time to go, I yellled the levitation charm, Wingardium Leviosa. Around the same time, Alyssea cast her spell, one that I’d never heard of before, I wasn’t sure what it was supposed to do but luckily, it didn’t work. Mine didn’t either to my disappointment, but I’d just have to try harder next time. Why did Zach always seem upset when our spells wouldn’t work, I mean, I wanted mine too but I didn’t want to get hurt. He probably just wants it for entertainment, so I shrugged it off and got ready to start again. I knew he would tell us to do that so I was just trying to get ahead. I looked at Alyssea, trying to remember everything she had said to me before Lee started, hopefully it wound help me in the next round.

Both girls, faced each other with seriousness on their faces. Zach looked at the Delainie. The pale-blonde-haired girl cast a Fire-Making spell, Incendio. She cast it perfectly. The flame was conjured from the tip of her wand. However, her targeting seemed off. Zach was surprised by the sudden fire. "Whoa! Watch out!" he screamed. Luckily the flame was fired to the wall near him. "Oof! That's really surprised me." Small flames were dancing on the wall. Zach wanted to extinguish it so much but he had to watch the duel first.

Then Alyssea cast her spell, a second Tickling Charm. Maybe it was a redemption attempt after she failed to make the spill hit her opponent. It was cast successfully. And what made it more satisfying was the spell hit Delainie's. Zach was unconsciously smiling looking at it. "She must felt the effect now," he thought. Zach was excited but on the other side, he knew that the spell could make uncomfortable feeling. The ticklish feeling was the worst thing especially when someone had to focus. Not to mention the loss of focus it made, it could also make the abdominal muscles cramp and it must be very uncomfortable.

Zach quickly looked at the wall after he finished watching both of the attacks. "Extinguo," he cast. The dancing flame on the wall was extinguished, leaving a burnt trace. "Be careful. Let's not get any detention for burning the entire room," he said to the girls. With a smile, he continued the duel, "Prepare yourselves and get ready to cast your spells!"

My eyes lit up with excitement as I saw my spell being cast. Incendio, the spell for making fire shoot out if the tip of your wand. It worked perfectly, excitement filled my entire body, but next came disappointment. My aim was so strange, the spell missed Alyssea and went straight for the wall beside Zach! “Oops!” I exclaimed, jumping just a little bit. It seemed to have startled him or something, but he didn’t put it out for some reason, I’m guessing he would at the end of the round, but wanted to watch. He seemed to like it when we would cast a spell one properly, so I bet he was just trying to watch for it. Alyssea managed to successfully cast the tickling charm, and sadly, it hit me. I have had this cast on me before, so braced myself for the crazy feeling. There it was, I started laughing and almost falling down from it. The tickling charm was not fun, but you’d think so by how much I was laughing. When I looked over, Zach had just finished putting out my fire. I uncomfortably smiled at him, at least it didn’t hit him. He said to get our spots again, so as I recovered from Alyssea’s spell, I walked over to my starting area and got ready for the next round.

Alyssea shook away her negative thoughts from the last round. This wasn't over. Somehow, the idea of teaching Delainie completely slipped from her head because now she wanted to win. She was a duellist, of course, so she had her reputation on the line.

Then the angel of reason came back on her shoulder and pushed away her thoughts. Failure is a step towards success, it said to her. Alyssea took a deep sigh as she pointed her wand. Focus.

Before she could cast her spell, flames erupted from Delainie's wand and Alyssea squared her stance. However, it seemed she didn't exactly need to move as the flames narrowly missed Zach and hit the wall behind him. Alyssea chuckled, but not the type that made her look as if she was putting down Delainie. It had happened to Alyssea in her first duel and Raizel was the unfortunate victim. Luckily, Raizel's reflexes were good and she dodged without a scratch.

"Don't worry about it!" Alyssea called from her side of the piste. "It happens!"

Alyssea straightened herself and pointed her wand again. Second time's the charm, she thought. "Rictusempra."

Second time truly was the charm as her spell flew in Delainie's direction and hit! Sympathy pooled in her stomach. The tickling charm was never fun to be up against. Alyssea made a mental note to get some chocolate frogs for Delainie after this; she deserved it.

This time, Alyssea seemed to decide to use a more advanced spell. She used Metelojinx, The Weather-Modifying Charm. The Hufflepuff girl moved her wand and chanted the incantation clearly. A dark cloud was formed above Delainie. Some flash of lightning could be seen from the cloud. "Lightning!" Zach jumped excitedly. Now he wondered what would be happened next but the lightning didn't strike this round.

And moved to Delainie, the Ravenclaw girl still seemed uncomfortable from the last Tickling Charm. However, the girl was standing still. She cast a spell at Alyssea, a Dancing-Feet Spell. Despite her current condition, Delainie still managed to successfully cast her spell. Sadly, her aiming was off while her target didn't have anything that interfered with her movement, making the spell miss. Zach somewhat felt an unpleasant feeling from watching Delainie. Maybe because they were from the same house or maybe because she was a year younger than him. Whatever it was, it made Zach worried.

"Okay, guys. You both doing a good job. Let's continue the duel," he said. Then he took a glance at Delainie and said, "Anyway, if you two feel can't continue the duel, you can surrender. Don't push yourself too hard because your health comes first." He spoke with pure worry for Delainie, but didn't want to show it too much because he didn't want to dampen her spirit for duelling.

Alyssea cast this spell I had never heard of before, but when I looked up, there was a dark lightning cloud floating over me. I gasped but the lightning didn’t actually do anything. I was still trying to recover from the tickling charm, it wasn’t great, but at least I wasn’t laughing all over the place. I weakly cast the dancing feet spell at Alyssea, and somehow I cast it successfully! My eyes widened with hope, but it was all lost when I missed the girl. At least I was able to cast it I thought. Zach told us that if we were uncomfortable we didn’t have to continue. I was seriously considering it right now, but I decided against it. I could still go for a little bit longer, but I was really starting to wear out. That tickling charm had the biggest effect, but I was scared for whenever that lightning might come. I knew Zach was probably talking to me, so I just said “I've got it!” as I walked over to my starting spot. I stood up straight and looked over to Alyssea, wondering if she was a real duelist, she should be if she’s not already.
