Reading in the Library
Date: Sunday 10th September 2023
Time: Mid-afternoon
In their desperate search for every quiet location at Hogwarts, Leaf had heard of the library. So here they were, outside the grand dark oak doors.
Inside the library, there were many people, of all houses and ages- all reading or studying from old-looking books. These books lined the vast shelves that stretched right down from the doors to the large desk at the end of the room.
Leaf saw a free windowsill on the left and sat against it. They took out their paper and newly bought quill and began to write about everything that was happening, a sort of diary. They'd kept a diary all throughout primary school and had always found it an amazing way to get rid of all their bad feelings- to let the paper take them in and keep them hidden. Paper was like an old friend to them.
They had an ink pot beside them and they took off the lid and dipped their quill in- the tip turned black with the ink and Leaf pressed it to the page and started to write.
Just as they were about to finish the first sentence, a book nearby crashed down onto the floor and the shock of it made Leaf swipe the quill hard to the right, creating a black line across half the page. No, this was not going to be a very quiet location today.
So they put the paper away. Deciding that reading might be more successful than writing, they stared at the shelves for a while, eventually finding a dark blue, leather-bound book, which they grabbed off the shelf and returned to their windowsill. Opening the book, Leaf realized it was about magical creatures- just the ones that aren't too dangerous. The Bowtruckle looks nice, they thought.
Students came and went for the rest of the day, and it wasn't until one came along and told Leaf it was closing time did they shut the book and hurry up to the common room.
