It's a lovely and very hot day at Hogwarts, which makes it the perfect day to sit by the Great Lake and have a picnic. A girl with blonde hair and green eyes wears a dotted pink dress, it certainly makes her stand out in many ways.

That girl is Yekaterina Vladimir, she's making her way to a nice shaded spot to set up a picnic. She didn't plan ahead so she didn't have time to invite anyone, I guess all the best picnics don't have to be planned.

As she sets up her treats and finger sandwiches she starts to think. She could really use someone that's the complete opposite of her to question her on why the picnic blanket is perfect and unwrinkled, on why everything is so stiffly placed, and why does she keep perfecting every little thing if it'll just be messed up by the end of the picnic.

Sure she's made friends but almost all of them are busy or studying, they haven't even started classes yet and people are already studying.

She'd rather engage in mischief, and she really needs someone to rein in that mischievous attitude and deny her any chance to slack off or put off on doing work. But of course engage in light and harmless mischief with her. Maybe today will be the day she meets the Black C@t to her Golden Retriever.

Grey stone, green grasses, and brown bark. Murky water, frozen leaves. Pink.

Kenny abruptly comes to a stop by the side of the pathway, his eye caught by something unusual. Back home, it was normal to be wary of what went on in alleyways. They were poorly lit and often housed enough trash to form a concealing canopy. It was the perfect stakeout for a mugging, and even when there wasn't, there were infected dogs.

Just uphill is a gravel trail that connects the various facilities on campus, where a sea of students passes one another by, draped in their fittingly black-colored robes and hats. For now he simply watches, curious in part and apprehensive in another.

"Oy," he quietly calls to another student coincidentally passing by, before nodding his head towards the little pink shape by the lakeside. "You see that? My mind ain't messin'?"

Upon confirming that it isn't his tired mind playing tricks, he gives the student an appreciative nod. "Cheers."

What is Christ's name was someone doing down there? He had been warned about the lake among other things. Not to go near the forest, not to leave his common room after 10 p.m. nor before 7 a.m., not to go for a swim... Whoever it was either failed to be informed or didn't care otherwise. A half-step backward briefly sees his tired conscience dragging him back to the dorm for rest. It's the responsible thing to do, Kenny. You've hardly the energy to spare yourself. But as he half-turns to tread the path home, he stops again. That person looked like they were alone.

Briefly, the African boy considers whether approaching might be exploitative in nature, to prey upon someone's solitude off the presumption that they were lonely. Another part of him sees himself by the lake six months from now, staring emptily into the murky waters as throngs of merrily congregated friends pass by uphill.

At the very least, he thinks he should warn them of what might be lurking in the water. But as his worn soles contact the muddy slope, he finds that his footwear offers no traction. In a panic, he finds himself sliding down the slope in an uncontrolled descent, forced to lean back with his robed legs against the dirt so as not to fall forward onto his face. The sound of frigid leaves cracking and dust erupting loudly surrounds the groaning First Year as he numbly ascends to his feet by the lakeside, a dry layer of soil caking the underside of his palms.

Kat is suddenly snapped out of her sadden daze by the sound of sliding and a thud, startling her and making her drop the finger sandwich she was about to eat back onto the small circle plate. She looks in the direction of the thud to see a boy in Gryffindor robes with dirt on his hands, Isn't that peculiar, I should probably see if he's okay.

Slowly she made her way towards the boy, most Gryffindors don't like Slytherins so slow is the way to go. "I'm tempted to ask if you're concussed but concussed people don't stand up. At least, I think they don't." Her thick russian accent completely mixing with her accent she'd gotten from living in Ireland so long.

Her ditziness is an unstoppable force, it cannot be stopped by anything even someone slipping down a muddy hill. "What year are you? You're rather tall but of course I'm 4'8. You look older than me, so fourth year?

She's genuinely interested but confused. She is now painfully aware of the sun boring into her very soul, heating her back and causing her to feel very thirsty. Without much warning she puts up one finger, in a 'hold that thought' type of motion and grabs two of many water bottles she has in her picnic basket. She walks back over and holds it out to the boy and looks at him, showing attentiveness and respect for whatever he has to say.

Kenny gingerly rubs his hands together, freeing a showering cascade of soil. He glances at the sudden onset of pink directly in front of him. What was that? Concussed?

"Whoa, slow down!" Without thinking he places his hands up between them, and his foot slides back noisily through the dried leaf mesh. There is an awkward silence that now permeates the air. His eyes sour when he looks down at his robes and he sees a thin layer of mud that has attached itself to the fabric. Any resolve or magnanimous compassion he earlier had was now drained by the dreadful prospect of getting the muck out of his clothes later.

"... Look... this is all an accident. Wait, fourth year?"

His voice when heard aloud is neither that of a teen nor a child, existing somewhere in between their pitch and nasalness. Though he was aware that boys of his ethnicity tended to look older than they were, he hadn't expected a misestimate of three whole years. He knew fourteen-year-olds with brimming mustaches, ear piercings, and fully tattooed arms.

"No, Imma First Year."

As he says it, another bout of awkwardness flushes his face, and he wonders if this strange pink girl might be feeling the same.

"Would that make ya a third year then?"

Third Year! First came giggles, then came chuckles, and then Kat was giggling wildly. It took a few minutes for her to stop laughing and get a hold of herself, but she finally stopped laughing and looked at him incredulously. "You're funny! I'm a first year as well."

Kat is practically beaming at this point, she's been mistaken for many things but never a third year. He might have been joking though, but that was still hilarious. "What's your name? I'm Yekaterina but call me Kat!" Any chance to make a new friend makes Kat very happy, she has always liked making friends and forming bonds.

She's never seen him around but then again they'd only just got here a few days ago, and the only house she doesn't have friends in is Gryffindor, who knows he could be the complete opposite she's been looking for.

She wasn't lying earlier. He does look older than her but now that she gets a good look at him, he does have some youthful features like his voice and his.......height? Despite his obvious want to know why she's down by the lake that they'd obviously been warned about, she wants him to ask in his own words, she thinks his voice is cool and wants to hear him say something again.
