A painful predicament
Rowan had been knocked out, but when he woke up, he wished he had stayed like that.
Saying a few... colorful words under his breath, he struggled to get comfortable, twisting back and forth.
"Mr bane- Mr. Bane! Calm down! It's alright!"
Someone was yelling at him, but he couldn't get over the blistering pain burrowing into his back, spreading across his chest and shoulders. He took gasping breaths, struggling to breath. That hurt too. Everything hurt. His vision was swimming, unfocused as he thrashed back and forth. It wasn't helping- nothing he did was helping.
Someone grabbed his arms and pushed him back into the plush bed.
No- that hurt more-
"Please- stop- stop- oh Gods- It hurts- everything hurts-"
Something cool was running down his cheeks. Tears? Oh, yes, tears. That probably contributed to his blurry vision.
"If you calm down, I'll let you go. Only if you can calm down. If you can't, I'll have to tie you down to to bed to keep you from hurting yourself. You're just going to hurt your ribs more."
His ribs. His breathing.
That's all his brain could connect through the pain.
Sobs continued to wrack his body.
"Someone knock him out!"
The person was so loud. It was hurting his ears. His head already hurt, why did they have to contribute more?
He didn't care though, after a moment. Someone had said some sort of spell under their breath before sweet waves seemed to lap over his mind, sinking him deep below the water.
An hour later he came to once again, the same pain shooting through him. The cycle repeated six more times, before finally, he awoke with reduced pain.
He finally took in his surroundings. A witch was working on another patient, though whipped towards him when she heard him move. His wrists and ankles were tied down, as well as a strap around his waist. Interesting.
"Are you alright now?"
She asked, studying him closely.
"No. But there is no longer fire burrowing into my spine. It is more of a flickering spark now. Not as bad but still very real."
The tears were flowing again, and he was on the verge of sobbing, though he managed to suppress them, for the sake of reducing his pain. Moving hurt. Breathing hurt.
Maybe someone would come see him soon though, distract him from the pain. But for now, he just tried to sleep a bit more.

A painful predicament
Lily had been sitting on one of the hospital beds for quite some time now waiting for someone to give her permission to leave. Lily had stumbled into the hospital wing looking for some help, because of her...condition. There was a boy brought into the wing a couple of hours ago, he looked pretty bad. Lily didn’t like seeing people hurt like that, it brought back quite a lot of intresting memories. The boy had been set down on a cot, and was now being treated once again. Lily sat on the other side of the room on her cot, and stared at him curiously. Lily was sitting in the middle of her cot cross-legged, wresting her arms on her knees and dropped her head in her hands. Sense almost everyone was paying attention to the boy even Lily was, everyone seemed to forget about her.
The boy had woken up once or twice wailing and screaming, they even had to threaten to tie him down once. Shifting her wait she swung her feet over the edge and spinned them in circles over and over again. Closing her eyes she dipped her head down and she started humming her melody to herself.

A painful predicament
Six of his ribs were broken. Shattered, in fact. Not a clean cut by any means. Severely bruised all over his torso and arms, as well as up his jaw and neck. Nose was broken as well, though no longer bleeding, and it was set back in place.
It looked like he had been choked then slammed into a wall repeatedly.
The back of his neck and up his spine was a different story though.
Bright red haphazard patterns swirled around and around on his back, looking almost like a brand had it not been how impossible it would be to brand a pattern like that.
He looked around and saw the girl humming.
“Hello. Are you alright? Well- I suppose you may not be if you’re here, but I still should ask, yes?”
His voice was strained and wavering, but still strong. Concerned for her. He winced slightly as he talked, the extra breaths needed to speak causing him a bit of pain. It didn’t help that his throat was raw as well.
This was going to be a long week if his pain didn’t go down any more.
The nurse walked over to start working on his ribs

A painful predicament
Where was Lily Gray? Jay had looked in the griffindor common room, the abandoned toilets and pretty much anywhere she would be. Jay faceplamed themself, Lily had been talking about her headaches which would mean that she was... In the medical wing. Jay sped walked to there, there were very few patients at the moment but they could immediately recognize the bright blonde hair onpf none other than Lily Gray, not too far from her there was someone else... Oh. It was flower boy. And he was talking to her. Jay tried to push away the memory of what happened the day before between them and asked a nurse if they could visit lily.
As soon as the nurse said yes jay went up to Gray, “Hey Lily, how are your headaches going?” Jay asked her. Hopefully she was alright and that she got medication for the headaches. Jay themself would get headaches whenever they tried to stop their anger issues. Jay yawned, it was night and they hadn’t slept for the last few days at Hogwarts. They probably Have only gotten five hours of sleep in total. Jeesh... And I managed to get an E in charms... They thought.

A painful predicament
Slanting her legs to the left she rolled over onto her back, lifting her arms in the air and palms to the ceiling. Lily loved the dark it was so...mistaken. Everyone believes the worst things come out at night, but I believe the most magnificent things do. Turning her head Lily found Jay standing to her right.
“Hey Lily, How are your headaches going?” Standing up quickly Lily leaned in close to Jay’s neck.
“Grand.” Takeing a step back, she turned around and leapt back over to the bed. Clicking her tongue she began humming her melody once again, with her hand to the ceiling she tapped her feet to the beat. Lily had been given...something. When she had stumbled into the wing the nurses had brought her to a cot and gave her something, and Lily didn’t like it very much. She couldn’t concentrate not one bit, everything was spinning and she felt, she felt...giddy.
“Do you think I’m aloud to leave yet?”Lily wined, to nobody in particular.
Lily’s head was still throbbing, but she was sick of these nurses have her drink this messed up medication. Sitting up Lily shrugged on her Gryffindor robes and and slipped her shoes on.
“Let’s g-go!” Lily stumbled over to the door blindly.

A painful predicament
Jay was worried alright. They had never seen lily act this way... Thye had seen her giggle for no reason and perhaps hum a melody due to the music box but Jay had never seen Lily Grey act like... This. Then Gray asked if she could leave yet, “No, I don’t think so—“ Jay was about to reply but Grey just got up and put on her griffindor robe, “You can’t just leave!” Jay said with worry as they then grabbed Lily’s arm and pulled her back to the bed. Lily was standing and everything but she was definetly not ready to stumble up and down the Hogwarts stairs or even walk on the normal floor. “I think you should rest,” they said, oh look who’s talking. They thought to themself.
Jay couldn’t then help but to look into the flower boy direction, gosh what happened to him? He looked quite messed up, “Hey... What happened to him?” Jay asked lowering their voice, did he fall? Jay felt curious to know what happened to him. So far in the year Jay hasn’t seen anyone get very hurt like have a arm broken, well... Jay did have their arm broken by that stupid muggle boy but besides that they haven’t gotten hurt physically.

A painful predicament
Tilting her head she looked over to the boy laying down across from her. Looking up at Jay she shrugged, she didn’t really know what was wrong with him.
“Thay had brought him here a couple of hours ago, I guess someone broke his ribs or something.” Standing up she stumbled over to the boys bed, resting her hand on the boys shoulder. Lily frowned the boy looked tired and worn, he was strapped down with brown leather straps and a white bandage around his stomach. He had bruises running up his side and along one arm. He looked bad, probably the worst she had ever seen for someone our age. Lily had seen plenty of injured people in her life time, her mother being a doctor and everything. Crouching down she clasped the boys hand, and began to hum her melody to him. Lily’s melody had helped her threw every problem she had faced even her brothers murder, so why couldnt Lily’s melody help him?
“I’m sorry this happened to you, nobody deserves to feel this way, including you...” With both of her small hands wrapped around his, Lily closed her eyes and carried on humming her melody.

A painful predicament
Even the hand on his shoulder hurt. This pain wasn’t something he could just put into a raindrop and let it wash away. It would take a full ocean to drown it. And at this point it would be rude to simply ignore the two and go to sleep.
A melody cut through his thoughs. The girl had taken his spindly little hand in her’s, and was humming to him. Interesting.
For a moment, he listened, almost contemplating joining in with a tenor octave, but soon pushed the thought aside, instead tapping the beat with his free hand against the sheets.
“Thank you.. Whatever harm falls upon you... well- I hope it gets better.”
He was still very soft spoken, wincing slightly and jerking forward as a burst of pain hit him once more. Maybe he twisted the wrong way, or even breathed in too much- but it felt like a sharp needle being driven into his back.
For a moment, they could see the horrendous mark spreading across his back, before he slid back again, against the cool towel over the pillows supporting him upright.
He hissed through his teeth, trying his best not to squeeze the girl’s hands.

A painful predicament
Actually muggle people do... Jay rudely thought as Gray said that nobody deserved to feel like this. Shut your bloodthirsty mouth! The other half of their brain thought. Great. Just great. Jay was talking to themself in their mind. Jay is probably getting madder and madder by each day, Jay followed Lily. Gosh he did look even sicker up close, Jay actually felt bad for him. They then caught one of the nurses look ino their direction with a frown.
“You’ll get better in no time, once I got my arm broken in the great hall and the head of slytherin fixed it right there on the spot,” Jay said avoiding the fact that they were in a fight or that they got into trouble and resulted in detention. Jay ran a hand through their green messy hair, “I’ll stay here for a few more minutes, if I stay past nine I’ll have my head taken off by some teacher or prefect,” Jay said, they could already get vibes from prefects and teacher that they were the one with the label ‘trouble’ on their forehead. I mean... Three detentions? Golly that’s a lot and it was only halfway through the year...

A painful predicament
Smiling at Jay she nodded.
“I’ll be right behind you Jay!” lily shined a smile toward Jay, than turned back to the boy.
Explosion, that’s how it had happened, was it a failed potion or spell? Eather way Lily didn’t really want to know exactly how it played out. Shifting her wait over to her left side she smiled at the boy laying down.
“I hope your feeling better than when you first arrived. When I saw them bring you in you looked absolutely horrible.” Lily carried on humming her sweet melody to the boy. Lily could sing her melody for the rest of her life if she could, she loved her melody. Lily could still remember that absolutely horrible day, the day of her birthday, the day her older brother Andy’s body was found, and the day her melody was given. Andy had given her a little wooden music box, and when you opened the box inside was a Thestral that would flap its wings to the beet.
“Do you have any sibling?” She whispered in a huskey voice, Lily titled her head to her right. She new Jay didn’t have any sibling, but did this boy? Did he know how it felt to look up to someone and then have them snatched away from you? Does he know pain, the same pain lily has to Conquer every single day.
