Bird Watching
Kaia sat against a tree staring at the frozen lake, she saw a large shadow glide along the top, Kaia assumed it was the giant squid. The ground was covered in snow, she didn't mind that her clothes were getting wet, she liked the quiet.
She could hear small chirps from up in the trees, Kaia looked up among the branches trying to spot the birds or at least the nest that they were in, after a few minutes she finally managed to spot a next, Kaia stood up from the pot she was sitting in and grabbed ahold of the branches, climbing her way up to the nest. She made it to the top, with a small rip in her jacket and one of her plaits had fallen out, Kaia brushed the snow off a large branch and sat down, she peered over to where the nest was, inside were 4 chicks, they had all snuggled up against each other for warmth, Suddenly a larger bird swooped in and landed on the edge of the nest, Kaia gasped in surprise, the bird, which Kaia assumed was the mother, looked over at her, tilted her head, then turned her head back to her chicks and began to feed them.
Kaia sat in silence as she watched the mother bird feed her chicks, it was calming. Once the mother had finished, she flew off again, most likely in search of more food, Kaia leaned over the next and looked at the chicks, she breathed slowly, small clouds of fog from her breath floated around the chicks, one of them ruffled their feathers, Kaia smiled softly then leaned back and watched the clouds through the branches.
As she sat, she heard voices below her
