To put it bluntly, Alyssea was bored. She needed something fun to do. Ball planning was getting stressful now that the planned date was approaching, but she was also excited. This would be the first ball she ever participated (and organised)! But anyways, the late nights of trying to put together plans and all made her stressed and she needed to blow off some steam.

Cue the Duelling Club.

Now that she was on the team, perfecting her strategy before the season starts would be a good idea. She came into the club with no idea who her opponent may be, just that if anyone were to challenge her, she'd accept. This time, she was organised and wore her sneakers; as fun as duelling in heels was, she did not want to do it again.

When Alyssea arrived, there was a girl already there that she didn't recognize. Curious, she called out, "You okay?"

Not long after that, the door opened and this one was a familiar face. She smiled. "Zach!" She waved back at him. "I'm only duelling if someone's up for it."

He then approached the other girl and asked if she wanted to duel. Would this be her first time? Alyssea had never seen her around before, so it was likely.

She offered the girl a smile. "Word of advice: take your time. Make sure your spell is focused and well done. I can't promise I'll go easy on you, but you're gonna do great."

And with that, she walked up to the piste and raised her wand.

I had never been to the duelling club before, and it was already almost a month into my time at Hogwarts! I got up and walked down to it, I wasn’t sure wether I would just watch it duel someone, I guess we’d just see how it goes. I made it to the duelling club, I just stood around for a moment, and fiddled with my wand. I tried to watch some of the spells people casted and how they did it. If I was going to duel I might as well see how it works. I didn’t even notice another girl walk up to me and ask if I was ok. Startled, I replied with “What? Oh yeah I’m alright”. She turned and faced another student, whom she called Zach. He asked me if I wanted to duel. I looked over at the girl who had approached me, she looked nice enough. “Oh hi, I’m Delainie. And sure, I’m up for a duel!” I said enthusiastically. “Whats your name?” I asked the girl.
She smiled at me and then gave me a little bit of advice on how to duel! “Thank you for the tips!” I would have never expected my opponent to give me any advice, so I returned her smile. “This is my first duel ever” I said “well, magical duel that is. I’ve punched someone before”. Maybe I had overstated a little bit there, but oh well. Took my spot and got ready to duel.

Zach watched the duel from the side of the piste, with a wand on his hand just in case something wrong happened. But what could have happened in the first round? Both girls were ready with their position and tried to attack each other. Alyssea cast the Dancing-Feet Spell at Delainie, the pale-blonde-haired girl and cast it accurately. And on the other side of the piste, Delainie also cast the same Dancing-Feet Spell at the brown-haired girl accurately. Not only had both spells been cast accurately, they also hit each other successfully. Smile was bloomed on Zach's face like the flower in Spring. Excitement could be seen from his face.

That was what he was looking for. An exciting duel where both the spells hit successfully. It seemed both of the duelists weren't prepared to evade the attacks. "Great job you two," Zach said. "Get ready with your position and posture again. And start!" Zach couldn't wait what would happen in the next round and anticipated any great things from the both girls. "Bring some chaos," he thought with a smirk on his face. "It's a shame I didn't bring any snacks. I wish someone would come here and share their snacks with me. Sweets, savories, anything!"

I was at first very worried about what would happen during this duel, since it was my first one, but I tried to focus on what the girl had said. She had duelled before, so I should definitely be listening to her advice. It came as an instant shock to me what spell my opponent, Alyssea, casted. As I shouted the dancing feet spell at her, she did the same. Somehow, we both were able to cast the spell properly and I watched with a small smile as we both started dancing a little bit. I guess we both wanted to start out easy with our first spells. The bad thing about this was, Alyssea was a year older than me, I only knew a few spells, she definitely knew many more than me. I’m sure it was probably very entertaining for Zach to see us both dancing around. Once the affects of the spell had ended, I heard Zach yell “start” again and I got myself ready. Ready to cast a new spell, though I wasn’t quite sure what, and ready to get hit with one of hers. My wand was still at the ready, and I tried hard to think back to the spells I had learned, I always do better under pressure, why is it different now?

Just before she fired her spell, she remembered not having given her name to the girl (now labelled Delainie in her mental address book). She quickly yelled out "It's Alyssea!" before firing her first spell.

She wanted to try a spell from her most recent DADA class, but she decided she'd play it fair first. Only First Year spells on Delainie. Later on, in a moment of desperation, she might try some newer spells.

So, Alyssea traced the wand movement for Tarantallegra and said the incantation. Sound French, she jokingly thought as she remembered the first time she attempted the spell. Despite it coming out a bit weak, the spell hit its mark which was a better start than nothing.

What Alyssea didn't expect was for Delainie to hit her with the exact same spell she had in mind. As her legs moved to the beat of a tango (much like the first time she duelled, with Zach, too), she gave Delainie a smile. "Nice hit!"

Being a condescending senior was not what Alyssea was about. Delainie was holding up quite well compared to when Alyssea's first time. Maybe some people were born for the piste. Alyssea didn't quite know if duelling was for her yet; she'd have to find out when the official games started.

She focused on the pattern of her steps while thinking of her next move. At least she wasn't doing this in heels.

This round was fun but not as interesting as the last round. Luckily (sadly), no one was hurt. Delainie cast the Fire-Making Spell, one of Zach's favorite spells, at Alyssea. Her wand movement was very textbook-like, with a clear pronunciation. Fire was conjured from the wand of the pale-blonde-haired girl. Everyone who looked at his face would know that he was very excited when seeing the flame. However, Delainie seemed to have lost control of her wand due to her dancing, or maybe Alyssea evaded the fire beautifully with her tango which made her targeting missed. It was hard to focus when you're dancing after all.

And Alyssea, still dancing in her tango, cast a spell that Zach seldom heard, Bubble-Producing Spell. Zach had tried to cast that spell before but his targeting was missed. But it was a different case with Alyssea. Despite the challenge from his dancing feet, Alyssea managed to cast and hit Delainie successfully. "Bubble! Impressive!" Zach shouted in awe. It somewhat impressed him but also scared him. The length of the pronunciation of the spell and the challenge from the dancing feet would definitely make her hardly cast the spell. However, she still could do it and limit Delainie's movement by the solid bubbles in her way.

Not long after that, the effect of the Tarantallegra had ended. "Great work you two. Get to your position and prepare your wand. We still have a long way to go," Zach said. "Ready? Start!"

I had missed my spell! It was only the beginning and I was already getting off to a bad start. Ok Delainie, just focus on what Alyssea told you, you’ve got this! I thought. I tried to conectrate and get away from the affects from her spell. I don’t know what I’m going to do now. There’s only so many spells that I can cast! I’d learned so many things in my month of being at Hogwarts but sadly, only few were good for duelling. I know Alyssea said that she wouldn’t go east on me, but now I really hoped she would. I walked backwards to get away from her. I was scared for the next spell she would cast, hopefully not something mean, I wasn’t sure what I was going to do. It seemed like maybe she could have been waiting for me to regain my senses, so I took the time I had to think. What spells have I learned, what spells have I learned? I repeated over and over and over again in my head. There had to be something I could use. I tried to make myself feel like I was under lots of pressure, maybe it could help. It did.

She took a deep breath and pointed her wand firmly at Delainie. The spell was simple; say the incantation and point at your target. But the incantation was long, so she would need to say it quickly while still getting the pronunciation right. Should this work, it would give her an advantage in her aim. "Bullarum Immortalem."

The bubbles formed as quickly as she said it, which was much better than the last spell she cast. Despite the never-ending steps and unsteady footing, her aim was decent. The bubbles stuck onto Delainie and she mentally cheered. Another successful hit!

The burst of flames coming her way was no match for the adrenaline in her veins. She quickly spun out of the spell's firing line and struck one last pose before the dancing spell wore off. Alyssea let out a chuckle. The adrenaline would likely get into her head soon.

Confident, she raised her wand again, ready to fire the next spell. Should she continue producing bubbles? The more bubbles, the more Delainie's ability to dodge would fail. But then again, it might be a waste of energy trying to pull it off.

Think quick, she thought as she pointed her wand.

Delainie cast a Green Spark Charm toward Alyssea. She moved her wand accurately just like what the professor had taught in the class. Her pronunciation was also perfect, loud, and clear. Zach was sure that her spell must be very powerful. However, when she directed her attack at Alyssea, she couldn't hit her. The brown-haired girl was evading the spell perfectly. Zach laughed when he saw her. "You did it again! Guess it's not the effect of the high heels then," he shouted to Alyssea.

And the next was the action from the brown-haired girl, Alyssea. She cast Tickling Charm at Delainie. The spell was cast successfully but it didn't hit Delainie. Delainie seemed able to evade the attack from Alyssea or maybe it was Alyssea who lost her control. Whatever it was, the spell wasn't hit. It means, no one is hurt. Zach didn't know whether he should be happy or disappointed.

"Luckily, no one is hurt this time. You two evade the attack well. Congratulations?" he said. But he quickly fixed his tone, "I mean, congratulations! But you still have a long round to go." He then looked at both girls. Delainie seemed to have the disadvantage from the Buble Producing Charm from the previous round. Zach really wanted to jump onto the bubble but he had to focus on moderating the duel. "Get ready! Start!"
