Charlise Worthington wrote: 1 Nov 2018, 09:56 “Oh no problem. I’ve had to improve my reflexes, you know, living in a house with 4 chaotic kids like my family.” Charlise smiled, while shrugging. “My name’s Charlise. Charlise Worthington. Nice to meet you.” She said, her thick Scottish accent making it clear of her background. She held out her hand for Kenni to shake.

Charlise scooted over on the bench, so Kenni had a little more space. Kenni looked like an interesting person, and Charlise couldn’t wait to keep talking to her to get to know her better.

Could this girl be another friend? I really hope so. She seems nice, Charlise thought.

Charlise sneezed and looked up at the roof above the Great Hall. It looked beautiful. Tonight it was a deep blue, speckled with stars. The floating candles made it look even more like a starry night. She imagined being able to jump from star to star, up in space, with her non-magical bestfriends. She grinned, and was suddenly jolted from her imagination by the clicking of a students fork dropping onto the floor.

"Oh, sorry. I was just a little lost in my imagination," Charlise said, remembering that Kenni was sitting next to her. "What does the sky remind you of?" She asked.
Kenni smiled lightly.

"The sky reminds me of home." She paused thoughtfully.

"It makes me think of back home. I would escape the noise of my household by crawling out my window and laying on my roof at night. I'm one of 6 kids, you know. The night sky helps make me feel at peace. The amenity and predictability of the constellations help drown out the noise around me. I've become so absolutely entranced by them, that I unknowingly charted them."

She turns and gives Charlise a sideways gaze, smiles a little, but friendly, warm glimmer sparkles in her eyes.

"It's funny how it works when you love something. You quickly learn so much about them, that it's almost as though you know them as well as you know yourself." She returns her gaze to her plate of food, thinking of her brothers. Her smile falls as they continue to consume her mind. She thought of how her brother came storming in one day, telling with pride how he joined some anti-muggle group. He said how he wants everyone in her family to join in order that she could escape punishment from that very group.

Since then, the amount of blackmail, hexes, and spells she's had placed on her house and sent to her family has left the house with multiple holes and various magical creatures roaming the lawn. The roof has become her escape from all of that. The only safe spot.

She exhales quickly and looks up to Charlise, clearing her throat and her thoughts. "So, 4 kids, eh? You the eldest?"

Charlise didn't elaborate and the silence was filled with semi-awkward tension. In deciding to break said tension, Kenni just kept talking. "I'm the second youngest, so I pretty much get all hand-me-downs. I have my younger sister, Fiona, and that's about it. My older brothers are Kilo, Evryn, Blaise, and Jamison. Jamison and I are the closest. He's actually in his fourth year here. He and I are opposites, but we go well together. Blaise is in America, training as an auror. Evryn is in London, in the care of magical creatures. Hagrid helped him fall in love with the animals. He only graduated last year. And," her smile faded and her face darkened slightly. "Kilo graduated three years ago. He... we..." She sighed, searching for the right words. "We don't exactly talk about him."

There was a tense silence that fell between them for a second and Kenni stared at her plate in thought. She then shook her head and in an instant, the darkness that was previously there fell away to reveal her usual, calm, wise-beyond-her-years expression.

"He's a handful, I'll tell ya that." She smirked in a feeble attempt to lighten the mood.

"Now," She turned so she was facing Charlise. "Enough about me. Tell me more about yourself. What's it like for you back home?"

Replying To Viviana

Ysabelle looked up quickly, her shoulder length dirty blonde locks flying around her face as her head whipped up. Her chocolate brown eyes landed on the girl to the left of her and she realized she was talking to her. Ysabelle's tanned skin grew red as she blushed in embarrassment. "Hello! It's nice to meet you as well Viviana, my name is Ysabelle Raine." She said as she introduced herself. Her voice was higher pitched but not annoyingly so.

Ysabelle forced her voice to not quiver as she managed to keep the anxiety from bleeding into her voice. Her small nimble fingers played with the sleeves of her robes. She often fiddled with things to keep herself pre-occupied and to keep her mind busy.

Replying to Ysabelle Raine

Viviana attempted to keep the smile on her face. Seeing Ysabelle fiddle around with things nearly made her wish to copy her actions and nervously play with her food. She refrained, however, because if both of them turned into nervous puddles then who would talk and attempt to solidify a friendship on the most important day of the year?

Viviana soldiered on with resolve, not allowing her own anxiety to reach a level too difficult to handle. "You have a beautiful name, Ysabelle. Would it be too bold of me to ask about your interests? They're simple questions, really. Such as, do you enjoy reading?"

She tried not to chew her lip nervously as she awaited a reply. Was that too daring of her? Should she have waited to been asked a question first? Such thoughts would not leave her and she dreaded the fact that she'd not much experience when it came to talking to people her age.

Still, this should strengthen her will to reach out and attempt to do what she normally wouldn’t have the courage to do. The thought made her glance briefly towards the rambunctious table where students were clad in bold red colors. Gryffindor, the house her mother hailed from.

May the memory of her bright spirit bring her the ability to keep one foot in front of the other at all times. And may her fathers friendly nature rub off on her and tone down any tension she seemed to exude from her very presence.

She wished they were here, but they could not be for different reasons entirely. However, with their teachings, Viviana managed to pry her gaze away from the Gryffindor table to look at Ysabelle.

Arielle Fox wrote: 26 Nov 2018, 00:59 Arielle took her seat at the Ravenclaw table, scanning around for any familiar faces. No one. Mournfully, she started on her fish and chips. She hated fish. She was an American student, so all the new Hogwarts foods felt weird. She was tired. She had just been called home for a Thanksgiving trip and had just gotten back to Hogwarts. Nobody, here that she knew. As the meal moved on to the dessert, trifle, which she did like, even though she had never tried it before. Honestly, in her dorm, she was the youngest member, which she wasn't used to. She had never been exactly popular, even though she was in the dorm of one of the most popular Ravenclaw witches ever, Cho Chang. In her dorm, one girl had spoken to her, since the start of term. She pulled out her favorite book and started reading. She read about many things, but "fantasy" that seemed like it could fit in at Hogwarts was her favorite. She started to put the book away, to head up to her dormitory, but she saw somebody standing near her. She jumped up, startled. The boy was in his first year, wore glasses like her, which lay over green eyes. He had blond hair and wore a panda hoodie.
Nigel wasn't entirely sure what to do with himself now. Everything from the train up until this moment-- that had been decided for him, the steps already laid out to follow. But now, with this great crowded table laid out before him... He took a breath, and sat down in what appeared to be an empty spot.
"H-hello." Nigel tried out a bit of a smile. That was a good idea, right? Smiling always put people at ease. "My name's Nigel." Was that fish, on the table? His grin became a touch more genuine as he noticed. Fish was always good. "Do you know if we're allowed to just, y'know, take some of it? The food, I mean." What was he doing? Nigel forced himself to relax, consciously settling himself into his place. This was his place, after all, even if it was also his first year. He'd gotten the admittance letter, and been Sorted as normal, and he had everything he needed for class. It would all be fine. Nervous hands brushed a stray lock of hair out of his face, smoothing the braid down over his shoulder.
"Anyway," the stutter was a lot less noticeable now, "What's your name? It's great to meet you, really great, I mean I don't really know anybody yet, but I certainly am excited for the year!" That was a little better. Nervous chatter was better than silence, after all, when it came to making friends. At least this way, they could be awkward together.

Another boy took his seat near Arielle, this one with black hair, brown eyes, and chocolate skin, also a first year. The boy started to speak, nervously, and he stuttered: "H-hello." A nervous smile was on his face now "My name's Nigel.
"Hello, it's nice to meet you, Nigel."
The boy's eyes surveyed the table before him. He saw the fish, the disgusting fish, and his smile became wider and happier. "Do you know if we're allowed to just, y'know, take some of it? The food, I mean.
"Yeah, I guess, if you like it. That's what everybody else is doing, anyway." Nigel brushed some stray hair off his face and settled himself down in his seat. "Anyway," now, his stutter wasn't very noticeable "What's your name? It's great to meet you, really great, I mean I don't really know anybody yet, but I certainly am excited for the year!"
"My name is Arielle. I don't know very many people yet, either. I thought the classes would be a little easier, but they're really very hard, at least to get a good grade. I'm one of the youngest in my class, so it's hard to keep up with all the other students. They're all about to turn twelve, but I just turned eleven in the summer! Do you like to read at all? Do you think I'm talking too much?" Arielle winced as the words flew from her mouth. Yes, she was definitely talking too much.

A pen is my sword, so I will use it.

At that, Nigel relaxed a little bit. "Oh. No, I think you're fine. I mean, I don't know what I'm doing either, I still haven't even really settled into my classes." At least he wasn't the only one feeling awkward. His hands fluttered nervously by his plate, finally switching to scoop some unfamiliar white fish onto his plate, and a sample of everything else he could reach-- some sort of nut concoction, it looked like, and chicken, not a vegetable to be seen. Perfect.
"I do like reading, though," he admitted with a grin. "I don't think most people end up in Ravenclaw if they can't at least tolerate it. I really loved the sci-fi and fantasy stuff back home, but I haven't really found much like it in the library here. I suppose it makes sense," came the musing, "it's like everybody here is living in a fantasy novel. At least it's not completely new to me." Nigel set his plate back down, his fingers lingering on the old and pitted wood of the table before he began diligently buttering a piece of bread. A question spilled from his lips.
"How old even is this place? Hogwarts, I mean. It seems like it's been around forever, I don't even know anyone who can remember a time when it didn't exist."

Savanna walked into the great hall with shinning eyes. Her excitement was more than noticeable. She took a moment before sitting with the other Ravenclaw wizards and witches, simply to marvel at the magnificence of the great hall. She then took a seat at the Ravenclaw table for the first time and smiled. She did not want to interrupt any of the conversations going on around her.

She looked behind her to see the Slytherin house. Her smile faded to that of curiosity. She watched them for a few moments before turning once again to her fellow Ravenclaw students. Thoughts flooded her mind. Questions like. Who will i meet? what will my first spell be? Did i really become a Ravenclaw? She ponder these things as she poked her food. Something only keen wizards and witches would pick up on, was that there was no meat or dairy on her plate... how strange. She took a nibble of a piece of fruit she had before her.

She looked at the Hufflepuff table, attempting to listen in on their conversation, ever so curious as to what they were discussing. She hear snippets of conversations here and there. She became bored with that and diverted her attention to the book she had hidden in her lap. It was Newt Scammander's Fantastic beasts and where to find them. She eagerly flipped through the pages to find one on the swooping evil. She gladdy indulged into her book while munching on a cracker she snagged off of her plate.

Allie fidgeted in her robes uncomfortably as she continued to watch students be sorted into their houses. She was never really any good at calming down her nerves when it came to dealing with large crowds, especially in places like Hogwarts, where so many famous people had been exactly in her place. She had been nervous and excited almost the whole trip, from having to ensure she avoided being seen by muggles running onto the platform at the train station to now sitting here in the Great Hall amongst her fellow Hogwarts students. She was aware that there was probably others around her that shared her nerves about seeing what house the Sorting Hat would place them in. As a matter of fact, her family at home in London had been making bets on what House Allie would be placed in. It was expected that she would be sorted into Ravenclaw, as her mother had been before her, but it was still up in the air until it came down to being Allie's place in line. She had stepped up the stairs cautiously, narrowly avoiding catching herself on her slightly too baggy robes and planted herself firmly on the stool below her with her hands gripping the edge of the worn wood gently. She took a deep breath and calmed her nerves slightly before feeling the thinning fabric of the Sorting Hat on top her hair. It took mere minutes before the hat shouted out the name of her new home. A huge grin broke out onto Allie's face as she stood up and raced quickly down the aisle to take her seat amongst her other Housemates. She was eager for the year to being and to make many friends. As she looked at the faces of those sitting around her, she recognized a few of them from the train ride here. She rested her chin lightly on the palm of her hand as her elbow rested on the edge of the table and continued to watch the rest of the students be sorted.

Merle made her way to the table, scanning the two rows for an open seat. She didn't recognize anyone from the train or boat rides - not that she actually talked to anybody then. She didn't even recognize anyone from the crowd, but she figured that since she'd been relatively near the start, someone would show up soon.

A rumbling reminded her that she still hadn't eaten. She glanced at the banquet before her, piling her plate with food. So much of it was familiar, she found herself homesick. She hadn't expected to miss her family this early, why couldn't it have waited until tonight like with everyone else? Merle was still hungry though, so she began to dig into her food, if somewhat glumly.

She wondered what house her younger brother, Thomas, would be sorted into. Probably - no, definitely, Hufflepuff. Merle hoped that Thomas would get a letter next year and be able to join her here, but every time he was involved in some strange magical circumstance, she had been too.

Merle glanced up at the ceiling, the enchanted sky still as mesmerizing as when she stepped into the hall a few mere minutes ago. She turned to one of her new housemates next to her, "Hi, I'm Merle!" She leaned in conspiratorially, "Have you heard that apparently there's a giant squid in the lake? Do you think we'll ever get to see it up close?"

General The Ravenclaw Table 2018-2019
Arc Perscivious moved towards the Ravenclaw table as the cheered died down and a new name called towards the Sorting Hat. “Thank God for Ravenclaw,” Arc muttered under his breath. His father, Markus Zenith Perscivious, would not stop talking about it if he got into Gryffindor. He had forced him to go to the forest and did physical activities to rub his ‘Gryffindorliness’, as he liked to call it, to Arc. Again, thank God!

The boy smiled curtly to the many other Ravenclaws that greeted him. One overly enthusiastic boy raised his hand up for a high-five and Arc gave one. He would never leave a hand hanging, that would just be rude. That was something his big brother had said a long time ago. Talking about the guy, how was he doing? Arc already missed him. He sincerely hoped that the big fella was doing fine at home.

The dark-haired boy finally found an empty spot for himself. He sat down and most of the boys and girls around him had already focused their attentions back to the Sorting Hat. Some of the other Ravenclaws, though, gave him handshakes and introduced themselves. Arc might have an impeccable memory, but through all the events and people he met, he would certainly forget one or two of them. He would do his best to at least commit their faces, though.

Looking at the food in front of him, he realized that he hadn’t eaten anything for quite some time now. But he wasn’t hungry at all. All the adrenaline was still coursing through his blood and he didn’t feel like eating anything. His father had told him many times to eat more or the ladies wouldn’t like him, but truthfully, he couldn’t care less. At least, for now... Arc took a small bite of the custard cake before looking around for someone to talk to or something.

If only he had brought a book in here!
