Drown it out
Rowan was hit with a wall of sound as he walked into the great hall with Min-seo.
Visibly flinching and staggering backwards, his head was already spinning. This is why he either arrived early for meals or skipped them entirely.
But today he was late, and facing the consequences.
His nails dug into his palms, and pain pricked to life, dancing across his skin and up his wrists.
Alright.
He could do this.
Walking forward he took a seat at the Gryffindor table, expecting Min-Seo to follow for the time being.
"Sorry. I don't handle crowded spaces well."
He mumbled to the girl, quickly loading his plate with whatever was within his reach, not bothering with specifics, just sustenance.
"So your name sounds... Japanese? Chinese? Korean? Where are you from?"
Just keep going. You can handle it.
Tears pricked at the edge of his vision. He couldn't focus on anything really. There was so much intake to process, and his brain couldn't filter out any of it. If Min-seo responded, he couldn't tell.
"Can we- Is- Um- Sorry- Can we take this and- and- um- go? Outside again? Is that... against the rules? Taking food?"
Why couldn't he just be normal?
Not damaged or broken or-
Gods he just wanted everything to shut up for five minutes. Give him time to process what the hell he was observing. So his stupid brain could catch up.
He stood up quickly, excusing himself in the least panicked voice he could manage, before walking with long strides right back outside.
What a useless trip.

Drown it out
Min-seo walked in and saw Rowan stager backward. She was worried, hoping he was ok. He was taking deep breaths, and he walked over to the Griffyndor table, still visibly pale, he was pale before, but he looked paler than usual. He sat at the table, and she thought it would be okay to sit there, even though she was a Slytherin. A few people shot her glances, but she was fine. Min-seo gave him a worried glance.
"That's all right. Just tell me if you'd like to go someplace else." She said with a reassuring smile.
She grabbed some of the food, a bit timid at people looking at her. Being a Slytherin, she was scared that someone would lash out at her.
"Oh, I'm Korean. I grew up there. Doesn't exactly help with language, though, I sort of have a bit of trouble with English....." She said.
She saw him beginning to cry. She got more worried.
"Yes, I think we can, we can go if you'd like." She said.
He stood up, excused himself, and walked quickly out of the room.
"Rowan!" She called out. He didn't hear her. She grabbed some food to bring for the both of them and got up and ran after him, her legs not being able to keep up with the strides he took. She opened the doors to outside and ran.
"ROWAN!" She called out.

“I don't understand how people can be so mean to others. We're all living beings, is it that hard to accept?" ~Min-Seo
