Anastasia wasn't sure what on earth had possessed her to go about starting a club beyond the fact that she had gotten rather bored practicing ballet on her own. It just wasn't the same as it was when she was in a dance class full of people, and she needed to be at her very best when she went home for the holidays if she was going to begin pointe shoes anytime soon. She was also rather irritated that she had managed to end up with Daniel as a co captian of the club. He was a perfectly fine dancer, but that was by far the kindest thing that Anastasia could bring herself to say about him. Still, the two of them had been dancing together for ages, so this shouldn't be too bad.

She sat at the table that she had set up earlier, a clipboard with her sign up sheet in front of her. She was fairly excited to get to see where everyone was and hoping that there were at least a few that would make this feel like a dance class back home. She supposed she would just have to wait and see. It occurred to her that it might seem a tad strange that she was wearing a leotard and her ballet slippers, seeing as she wasn't going to be dancing much if at all, but she was trying her best to copy the way her instructor looked and behaved during auditions.

Glancing around, she felt a tad anxious. She still had twenty minutes before things were actually supposed to start, but she saw no sign of Daniel just yet. He had better be there soon, or she was going to throw her parents' instructions to the wind and set him on fire.

Dear Daniel,

We heard that your friend, Anastasia, will be starting a club at Hogwarts. We think it’s a great opportunity to connect more with the Beckett family. Her parents informed us that she was starting a dancing club, and suggested that you join her. In fact, they were very adamant about having you join, as we all know you and Anastasia are good dancing partners. Enclosed in our latest package are some new dancing clothes, and we hope you take this opportunity to reach new horizons.

Your brothers miss you very much, and we’re so glad you’re enjoying your time at Hogwarts.
The Weavers
Daniel had found the letter infuriating, to say the least, when it arrived. It didn’t help that when he opened his box, the only things in it were dancing shorts, some nice, fitted shirts, and his stupid ballet slippers that were required when he went to dance lessons. The Slytherin was none too pleased that, even at eleven and at Hogwarts, his parents still tried to control what he did. They didn’t really care what he did, as long as it made other people happy. Yeah, sure; if asked, he would say he liked dancing. With the girl who was an annoying thorn in his side? Not so much. He pondered about it as he continued on with his life.

Of course, at one point or another, the day of the actual auditions were there. He could only imagine, as he dressed himself, how prissy Anastasia would be. If she could, he figured she’d sparkle herself with rhinestones and parade around as the best dancer in the world. He found her annoying, but tolerable at the same time. He made a face. He pinched his arm, leaving a deep bruise. They would never be friends, and he wasn’t going to allow himself to change that mindset. The eleven year old wouldn’t let it.

He pulled on sweat pants over his dancing shorts, and then slipped on his regular shoes. Everything else was stuffed deep into his bag. There’s no shame in a boy dancing, some stupid dance instructor had once pointed out to him when he complained. Seven years old, and the only boy in a class of girls. It made him agile. It made him quick. It gave him better stamina for things he actually was interested in. He didn’t really care if people made fun of him. He’d just punch their lights out. There was nothing wrong with any sport. Dancing was just like Quidditch, except less… in the air, and a whole lot less teamwork.

He made it to the Rehearsal room and couldn’t help but scowl a bit angrily at Anastasia. She was the one who got him into this mess, so he’d offer the least amount of help while making her club as useless as possible. He had other things he needed to worry about, like the Secret Society, his homework and what he wanted to do when it was the holiday break. He pulled off his sweatpants and the warm sweater he wore to show the black dancing shorts and fitted, black shirt that he wore comfortably. Out of his bag came his split-sole slippers and a pair of black socks. If anything, at least he was playing the part.

“Let’s get this stupid thing over with. I have other things I need to do,” the Slytherin pointed out, the irritation showing in his voice. He would, while she was talking, put his socks and slippers on, put his stuff in the corner, and then proceed to at least do some warm ups. Stretching, whether for dancing or Quidditch, he figured, it was important to get the blood rushing first. Save he warmed up than get cramps and couldn’t move later. He absolutely liked moving, so...

Anastasia frowned. Daniel hadn't been late, which was something at least, but knowing Daniel, he wasn't going to be helpful. She really hadn't even wanted him to be in the club in the first place, much less help her run it, but her parents were already irritated enough at her, and this wasn't the hill she was going to die on. She might just kill Daniel on this hill, but she wasn't about to die on it. She smirked a little at her joke. She didn't want to kill him per se, maybe just punch him in the face really, really hard. Or hex him maybe. Sady, she would probably get in trouble for that, so she was going to hold back for the moment.

She rolled her eyes at his words. Of course, he had other things to do. She had plenty else to do but had chosen to dedicate her time to this. Whether or not he wanted to, he had made the same decision, so the least he could do was actually try. "Alright, just wanted to clear a few things up. I don't want you here any more than you want to be here. You're here because my parents told me that a condition of me starting this club was that you help me. However, if you do anything to sabotage it, I will set you on fire. Alright?" Anastasia said brightly, smiling the entire time, even as she threatened to set him on fire. As long as they had something of an understanding, she could make this work.

She glanced at the clock again and saw that they had only ten minutes before things started. She was so ready for this. She had only practiced on her own since she had started school, so she was looking forward to dancing with other people again.

She saw the first few people arrive and decide she would give instructions and then wait and see what happened from there. "Hello, everyone. Welcome to auditions for the ballet club. I would like to see each of you perform a short combination, just so that I can see where you are. The combination is two rond de jambe en dehors, close in back 5th, right fondu with arms in second, then extend to developpe with arms in fifth, lower to tendu devant while opening your arms to second, tendu front, tendu side, tendu back, close to fifth, prep and pirouette, close to fifth, double pirouette, and close to fifth again," Anastasia said, demonstrating each movement as she said it. "You may practice for the next few minutes, then, when you feel ready, tell Daniel and me your name and show us. Any questions?"

OOC - You may now roleplay your character entering after Daniel, stretching/warming up/practicing the combination, then performing it in front of Anastasia and Daniel. You may not godmod Anastasia or Daniel and the 200 WC does apply here. Good luck!

Henry'd wander in behind a few girls, dressed seemingly in a red jumper and black sweatpants. Once he got situated in a corner, as he listened to the female explain what she wanted them to do, Henry stripped of his jumper and pants. Under them, he had a simple light grey short sleeved shirt and black leggings. He was in white socks as he didn't actually have classes, he was taught by his siblings, and therefore hadn't had the need to get any slippers. He hoped this wouldn't cause any harm, as he also didn't know what the words the female had said meant, but he'd memorised what she'd done. He'd study them later.

After his stretching, which he did whilst watching others get ready to perform, he'd then practicing the dance to himself, correcting himself based on others who had already done the dance for the two leaders.

When there was a short break in performances, Henry'd walk up to the pair. "Hello. I'm Henry Reed."

When it looked like they were ready, Henry cleared his throat and began. His hand being held in front of him in a curved motion, his other presumably on a bar, he'd move his unsupporting leg in two semi circles (rond de jambe en dehors), then finishing with his feet turned out and pressed closely together, the heel of the one foot against the toe of the other. His legs would then bend at the knee, his body sinking down whilst his arms stayed in his earlier position, the second. Once this was done, his working leg would be drawn up to the knee of the supporting leg and extended to an open position whilst his arm went above his head, elbows slightly bend and palms facing inward, which was the fifth position. Taking a breath as he wracked his head to remember what to do next, his right leg would go forward, his heel leading, as his arms moved back down to second whilst his toe pointed forward, then repeating it to the side and backwards before pulling his feet back together so the heel of one foot was touching the others toe. Ready to prep, his left foot would go backwards as his right knee bent slightly, left arm out to his side and his right forward in front of him. Ensuring his back was straight, he'd pull his left leg forward whilst bending it as it got on line with his now straight right leg whilst his arms moved back together into second position, pushing off as he'd lifted his left leg up, ensuring he moved in a clockwise circle and landing, though his feet did not land in fifth due to his slight slipping on his socks, Henry'd pull them together into the proper position afterwards. Pushing off again, he'd repeat the pirouette twice, his head spinning forward each time onto a marked spot so he wouldn't fall sideways. Having the same issue with his socks and the floor as last time when he stopped spinning, he'd pull his feet into the fifth position and look to the pair who'd been observing before dropping his positions.

Anastasia sat back down at the table and shot Daniel a glare that said: "Don't you bloody screw this up!" She was quite likely to follow through on her threat of setting him on fire if he sabotaged or even attempted to sabotage her ballet club in any way, shape, or form.

A boy made his way in front of the table and introduced himself as Henry Reed. Anastasia wrote down his name as well as making a mental note of his substitution of socks instead of ballets slippers. That either meant he was self-taught, or he was between shoes. Still, Anastasia was working on reserving judgment, and her job was to figure out his level of experience, not his teacher or anything else.

His performance began and Anastasia watched intently as he executed the designated combination. Overall, he was surprisingly proficient, especially if Anastasia's assessment of his being self taught was correct. When he finished, Anastasia nodded approvingly. It was an altogether enjoyable performance, and she looked forward to being able to work alongside him. "Solid job, Mr. Reed," Anastasia said, inwardly giggling at her use of his surname. It was a habit that she'd cultivated as a prefect and it seemed to be rubbing off into other areas. "Welcome to the club!"

Leila listened to the girl who was explaining the routine they would be doing for the auditions. She worked through the dance in her head. She moved to the side, still working through the dance in her head, and pulled on her ballet slippers. She quickly ran through the dance on the side, pleased when everything came back to her naturally. She made sure to keep in mind the technique that had been drilled into her head since she was small. She knew that her mother would have been proud of her if she knew that Leila was still dancing.

Once the boy, she had heard his name as Henry, was congratulated on being in the club, she stepped up to the pair, smiling shyly. “Hello. I’m Leila Katz.

When she thought they were ready, she began, throwing herself into the dance. The nerves that she had felt about the audition slipping away as she performed the familiar and comforting movements. As she danced, she made sure to She kept a small smile on her face as she gracefully pushed herself into a pirouette, landing in fifth position. She prepped again and repeated the pirouette twice, making sure to spot herself over the heads of the pair judging her. She pulled her feet to close in fifth position, before relaxing her posture ever so slightly and dropping her position. She looked nervously at the judges, hoping she had done enough to make it into the club.

When the dark-haired boy had walked into the rehearsal room that morning, he had come to regret all of the decisions that led him to that point. First off, listening to his mother when she told him to take ballet. Of course, there was a discount on a class. And of course, his mother thought it would be good to give him 'new experiences.'
Her voice was matter-of-fact as she craned her head to look at him in the car. "It'll help you with your rugby." she insisted. "You will be faster than all of the other boys," she insisted.

Flash forwards to now, and his ears burned as he slunk into the room. It was his decision to join the club, but it was only because he wanted to see exactly what it was about. It wasn't as if he loved ballet or anything. Entering the room, he saw a tall elegant girl, donning a black scoop-neck leotard, slippers and tights. She was as young as he was, but she didn't look that way. There was a confidence in her eyes, and an assurance. I'm meant to be here. I'm meant to be a star, her expression said. There was also another grumpy looking boy beside her, wearing grey dance shorts and a white shirt. His brown hair fell over his eyes as he stretched, doing warm-ups. In all honesty, he could relate to the expression on his face.

Isaac had brought black slippers to this audition, and carefully sat on the floor, tying them. He was wearing a plain white tank top and dark ankle-length slacks beneath his large black cloak, but felt a certain hesitance in removing the drooping garment. Glancing to the side, he could see that another boy, named Henry Reed was already auditioning. From the beaming look on the girl's face, he had done well.

He recognized the next girl from when he had met her at the Gryffindor table at the beginning of the year. It was Leila. In his opinion, she did great. Her movements were almost flawless.

Eyeing the others, he knew that it was his turn. Embarrassment crept like ivy up his neck, staining his cheeks red. Normally, Isaac rushed into things. But this time, he felt terribly hesitant. He was a beginner, and compared to the others, he knew his performance would look clumsy.

~~~
Isaac tried to come off as the perfect picture of determination. He strode forwards in front of the two Club leaders, managing to walk straight and keep his head held tall. But at the last minute, he tripped. His foot snagged on his robe, sending him toppling to the floor.
Out of breath and even more embarrassed, his face reddened, and he refused to meet their eyes, getting to his feet. He tried to block it out, but he could hear taunts in his ears, and remembered the last time he had fallen in class. The teacher had helped him up, but he heard the whispers, and saw the glances. He knew the truth, although all of the students looked away when he joined them again.
Failure, klutz, clumsy, fumble-foot, stupid, bollix, frog-legged, maggot!
Trying to still his shaking hands, he said, clearing his dry throat, "I'm Isaac." He forced a smile, looking at the two judges, but his stomach churned and he felt sick. He pulled his robe over his head, folding it and placing it on the floor beside him. Without it, he felt terribly exposed, wearing only his tank, dark pants and black slippers.
"The combination is two rond de jambe en dehors, close in back 5th, right fondu with arms in second, then extend to developpe with arms in fifth, lower to tendu devant while opening your arms to second, tendu front, tendu side, tendu back, close to fifth, prep and pirouette, close to fifth, double pirouette, and close to fifth again."
He was almost dizzied by the amount of moves the girl listed, but took a deep breath in and a deep breath out. He would do this.
He started by tracing a careful semi-circle on the ground with the tip of his left toe, tracing from the front to the back while trying to keep his balance. The movement went in a gentle arc counterclockwise. (ronde de jambe en dehors) Then he shifted to the fifth position, standing with his feet close together, one in front of the other and turned away from his body. He turned out a little too much, costing him some balance, but managed to recover. (close in back 5th) Afterwards, he shifted out of it, lowering himself lightly by bending his right supporting leg, while holding his arms out to the sides, angled downwards and forwards with his palms facing outwards. (right fondu with arms in second) It was simple to extend from there, arms rounded in front of him, his left leg shifted up to the knee of his right leg, and then slowly extended out into the air. (developpe with arms in fifth)
Lowering it back to the ground, he placed it in front of him, stretching his left leg out carefully to full point, and angling his arms downwards and forwards. (tendu devant with arms in second) Then, it was a series of tendu. His leg was brought to the the front, back and side, before he went back to the fifth position, feet close together once more.
A drop of sweat trickled down his temple, and his concentration was laser-like. He couldn't fail now. It was time for a pirouette.
Prepping briefly with a releve, up and down, he moved into a narrow fourth position, placing one foot in front of the other. Extending one arm to the side and one arm to the front, he did a plie, opening his arms up further, and put his left leg up in passe. With that, he did a single pirouette, rotating before a finish, holding his arms up.
He went back to a fifth position, turning his feet out away from his body and gathering himself close. From there, he went back to fourth, did a plie once more, lifted his leg once again, and tried to do a double pirouette.
Unfortunately, it was then that he crashed. His legs were spaced too widely, making him spin out of control. With a terrible flailing of his arms, he smacked onto the hardwood ground, his face, arms and legs flaring with pain. For a few moments, he lay there, before he struggled back to his feet, wincing.
Now you've done it. He thought, looking at the girl and boy. It was a disaster.
Breathing shakily, he tried to do the double pirouette again. He managed to pull it off this time, but it was unsteady, and his landing caused him to slide briefly. With that, he put his arms down, going back over to his robes and picking them up. He didn't dare look back at the two of them.
I'm not a dancer, so sorry if this is off.
