Alex slowly moved through the library, running her index finger against each spine of every book she passed. It was quiet in here, with a couple of older students studying further on, and only one other boy amongst the books, a little taller than most, with brown hair and a thin figure. Alex had seen him around quite a lot, but didn't know his name.

She was looking for a book on the Herbicide Potion, as she was learning about it in Potions. For homework, they have to give instructions on how to make one, and Alex hadn't found it in the normal textbooks. So she had turned to the library, where she hoped to find the right book.

Alex wasn't the type of person that went to the library just for pleasure, and it took a while for her to make herself get out of the common room and go to the library, but here she was, finally here, looking for a book for Potions, which was, definitely, her worst subject.

Alex finally saw a book that might be useful, and turned to take it out of the shelf, only to find another hand was already there. In an awkward moment, where Alex stepped back in a weird manner, she realised that it was the boy she had seen earlier.

"Sorry," she said, grinning in a decidedly even more awkward manner. "Didn't see you there."

Today, Jimin finally mustered up the energy to leave his post in the Slytherin Common Room, on a soft armchair, reading books and writing essays, that he had been in since Friday; and it was now Sunday. He needed to find the resources to study for his Potions Practical for the Herbicide Potion. Before leaving the Basement Floor, Jimin packed away his books and notes into his bag. He quickly checked his appearance in the mirror, adjusting stray hairs and pulling lint off his clothes - doing things to make him look presentable.

Taking his time, since he had pretty much all day, Jimin walked at a slow pace, flipping through his diary to see which books he would have to check out so he could revise. He sighed as he shut the book and placed it in his bag, walking up stairs to the Fourth Floor, taking two steps at a time.

Finally Jimin reached the Library, and he occupied a table quickly, avoiding any of the older students. He wondered whether or not it was strange that he seemed to be the only First Year in this environment. Maybe that just meant he was actually responsible. He emptied out his bag and arranged his things so they were slightly more neat-looking.

He checked his diary for the books he was to take and take notes from. He looked up to check the aisles, and saw another girl walking in. She looked familiar; definitely a First Year, Jimin thought. Maybe he remembered her from the Sorting? To him, pretty much all these people looked the same, but this girl seemed a bit different. She was quite short (or at least shorter than him, pretty much like everyone else) and had dark brown eyes that he had seen a lot growing up; here in England, everyone seemed blonde-haired and blue-eyed, but definitely not this girl. Jimin came back to reality and thought that maybe he had been staring for a moment too long, and he looked back at his diary.

After memorising which aisles to go to, and which books to get, Jimin set off to the first aisle. He was examining the shelves, looking for the exact book in his notes. Had someone else taken it first? That would not be very good. But finally, after what seemed like years searching, Jimin spotted the book. He reached out for it. Only to find another hand on the spine. He looked over and saw the same girl he had been staring at for too long just a moment ago.

"Oh," he mumbled. "I'm sorry," he said in a louder, yet shaky tone, in an American-sounding accent. He moved his hand away from the book. "You can have it... I don't need it that much."

"Oh," the boy mumbled. "I'm sorry, you can have it... I don't need it that much."

Alex felt her skin flush a deep red. She never really got embarrassed, t wasn't something she considered worthwhile, but there was just something about this boy, and the awkward situation they were in. She instantly felt even more embarrassed, and desperately tried to think of a way out of the situation. Anything would do. But, like most of the time, Alex's brain was slower than a snail, and about as useful as a car key inside a locked car. She bit the inside of her cheek, and tried unsuccessfully to return her cheeks to their normal colour.

Suddenly, in a moment of brilliance that comes rarely to people like Alex, she had a thought. It wasn't amazing or important, but it was something. The boy's name was Jimin. It wasn't a lot, but it was better than just standing here in the silence of the library, with nothing to talk about, and Alex's face bright red. She slowly raised her head, so she was looking at the boy's eyes. Randomly, she noted that they were a rather nice colour of eyes, very dark.

"Your name is Jimin, yeah? I think I've seen you around before," she said, hoping this would help the conversation rather than hinder it. She then noticed the green crest on his uniform, and said (since she had nothing to loose with this boy);
"And you're in Slytherin, right?"

Within the almost deafening silence, Jimin's eyes wandered the girl's face, exploring for an emotion to answer his questions about what she was thinking. He liked to think that he was quite good at reading people; perhaps he had this ability because he had experienced many emotions in just seven-or-so years, and knew what different actions and expressions meant.

Her cheeks seemed a bit rosy, and she wasn't really maintaining eye contact. Jimin looked away, thinking he may have been scaring her off with a bit of a too-intense stare.

Jimin gulped quietly and nodded to himself, waiting for a conversation starter to bloom in his brain or to be said by the other girl. He grazed the books' spines with his eyes before looking back at the person stood opposite him.

Just as he was about to bow and introduce himself, after what felt like days of gaining courage to do so, the girl opened her mouth and said something. "Your name is Jimin, yeah?" she asked, and Jimin felt relieved that he didn't have to say anything to begin with. He nodded. "And you're in Slytherin, right?"

Chuckling a bit, Jimin rubbed a hand slightly against the silver and green crest on his robe, and nodded. "That is... correct?" He replied, wondering if 'correct' was the right word to use in his reply. "And for you, Gryffindor?"

So far he had only examined her face, not her clothing, and had remembered someone with her appearance landing a spot in Gryffindor.
