Things had changed since I had last been here at this place. I remember being so excited when I first walked in here as a bright eyed first year. But now, I don't know what I felt. I felt fear, first-of-all, but also anger, directed towards the place associated with this very platform. I was afraid, as trains were similar to the reason I had been gone for the past year and a half. I had gotten in a car crash, and I admit, it frazzled me. I had been quite nervous on the car ride here, and my mother and father both kept giving me glances from the front seats. I had simply avoided their gazes. Of course, fear isn't usually alone, and after waking up at St. Mungo's, my time there alone gave me time to thing, which leads into my anger.

I was mad at my parents, I was mad at my teachers, I was mad at magic itself, and I was really upset with myself. I had two siblings, not biological, but I grew up with them my whole lives. Unlike me and our foster parents, they were Muggles. Notice the past tense? Well, both of them are gone. Dead. At St. Mungo's, I was healed up so quickly thanks to the magical abilities of the healers there. Also, the DID I once possessed had now been removed. In the trauma given to my head or by magic, I don't know. In recovery, I wondered, why could my sister Mia just pop in and gotten her cancer removed? Why couldn't I have taken out my wand to help my brother Gabriel escape the fire? Why was I given a potion to heal my burn wounds while my brother had to experience one of the worst pains known to man?!? WHY DID MY SISTER HAVE TO SLOWLY ROT AWAY, GROWING WORSE AND WORSE EACH AND EVERY DAY-

"TOOT TOOOOOOT"

The shrill sound of the train horn rang around in my ears. It snapped me out of my thoughts. The world came into view around me, and the chatter of my fellow peers faded into audibility. Platform 9 and 3/4 was bustling with students young and old, familiar and new. It was overwhelming almost, so I tried to focus on only the things close to me. My hand stroked my cat, Moonshine, and the feeling of her purring on my chest and arms was grounding. The sound of my parents calling my name suddenly came into focus.

"Kara. I know you are nervous about the train ride, but I promise you, everything will be alright. It's enchanted with multiple charms, I'm sure of it! There is no need to worry about anything going wrong." Matthew, my foster father, laid a hand on my shoulder gently, giving me a comforting look with his gentle blue eyes.

I know he means well, but I couldn't help but feel uncomfortable with his hand on me. I always loved his calm demeanor and his wisdom, but now he felt cold. I know that he and my mother were probably worried quite a bit about me, but I couldn't shake off the feeling. I blame him and my mother for letting my siblings die. And why let them, because they were muggles? Seemed like a real stupid excuse. They tried explaining that the secrecy was a law, but I felt like that was stupid too. I was the only one there when Gabriel died, but a stupid "law" said I couldn't use my magic to help him either. I think these laws need a revamp.

"It's alright, Dad. I'm not worried about the train..." My voice was quieter than I was used to (I was always a loud person). I placed my hand over his before brushing it off.

My time away from Hogwarts was my own choice. I wanted to stay away from magic. I mean, why learn to harness it if I can't even use it for any useful reason. Why the hell was I learning about jinxes when I could be learning about healing charms and how to save people? There is so much potential in this magical world, and for some reason, this more "advanced" society refused to fully explore and use it.

I feel a little bad about leaving so abruptly. My friends just got news I was in an accident and then suddenly I don't show up again. That is, until now. My mother, Lilly, convinced (and by convinced, I mean gently forced) my return. I know I looked a bit different, new scars and hair down to my neck rather than the old pixie cut. I was held back a year, so while all my friends are going into fifth year whilst I'm taking my fourth year, the one I completely missed. I didn't mind it too much, but that ambitious part of me wanted to still do the best in classes. I'd do it, perhaps something useful might be taught.

Overall, I have just been very conflicted about everything. I haven't confided in mostly anyone about it, not my mom, not my dad, not even Cassie...I wanted to leave them out of this chaos. They didn't deserve it on top of what they had going on. However, there was one person I did trust. His name was Hanako Tone. I had sent him many owls, making sure he told no one about them. I knew he wouldn't, and he probably won't even mention it to anyone even though I'm back.

He was my oldest friend that also had magic. It was quite a miracle, as from what I know, I'm Muggle-born. The fact that our mothers were friends while I was still a supposed muggle myself along with my siblings was quite a nice act from God. He must've known I needed someone, anyone, who I knew as both muggle and witch. In the letters, I told him about my newfound resentment towards magic, my parents. I told him my feelings, my struggles, my dilemma. I also told him about my slight regret about leaving Cassie practically in the dark. I hadn't sent them any owls..none at all.

I needed someone, anyone to spill out every single thought I had about my fears and angers, and I luckily found it in him. He knew everything. I felt slight discomfort around my foster parents now, but even though I hadn't seen Hanako in so long, I knew I'd feel right at home with him.

Honestly, me and my parents were just standing around, they simply chatted with some old friends who now had kids at Hogwarts of their own. Moonshine was still chilling in my arms, making sure I had a friend with me. I had been looking around for Hanako, and also Cassie, hoping to stick with one, and avoid the other.

Reducio
Hanako, if you want your mom to interact with my mom and/or dad, I will gladly write their POV on Kara's situation, as Hana's mom would at least know of the crash Kara got into! Also, I updated my appearance on my ency, so if you need to refer to that, go for it!

People could say what they wanted. Hanako had his own way of caring for his friends, though not the most conventional. Once he had learned of the continuous downhill of Kara’s life, he knew when and why he ought to keep his distance. What information he managed to get from his mother, and the letters he had received, he knew nothing he could say could quell the darkness that had taken residence in her daily life. At first, he admit his avoidance had been due to his own fear of saying the wrong thing. But over the years, it had developed into something like a subtle understanding that time was the only remedy. At the same time, he had prepared himself for the day that might come where she vowed to cut herself entirely off the magical realm- including him. Her hatred, valued yet haunting, was beyond his control. His letters had been clean, and short most of the time. Cutting out any mention of magical related activities or stories. Which made it difficult for him to share anything with her.

He trusted their bond from growing up with one another as childhood friends would withstand this, but he himself wasn’t that entirely optimistic about relationships in his life. Given that he had lost many important ones over the summer. So it was a shock to hear that she would be returning to Hogwarts. The news briefly mentioned by his mother. He dared not to ask more questions, nor did he ask Kara about it. He figured he would know soon enough. And he guessed correctly.

While he hasn’t said much on his part during their letters, he figured Kara’s parents would have likely known what transpired in his own life. Most recently, the divorce between his parents happened last summer. And how he had to live with his mother and aunt if he wished to stay in Hogwarts. Perhaps even how strained his relationship with his mother had become. Even more so then when he was younger. He made sure not to tell his mother anything more than that, but she doubted she would say more than necessary, even to her good friend Lilly. ( Kara’s parents have been aware of the information about the divorce and them moving into a new house and separating from Hanako’s old family. Nothing too specific But up to you if Kara’s told about this! )

On the way to the location, Hanako and his mother drove in awkward silence as always as they arrived. It didn’t take long to find Kara and her family. His mother gave him a small pat on the shoulder, silently urging him to take it slow with Kara before she moved ahead and greeted her parents. Joining in on whatever conversation that was going on. He approached Kara, hiding his slight nervousness by giving her a charming smile. “ Well well well, you looked like you aged well. ” he complimented smoothly before looking down at the cat in her arms with a slight frown. “ I’m specifically talking about you by the way. Not.. that”. Cats no longer caused him allergy reactions, but it certainly didn’t make it any fun for him to stay close to one. He wondered if it was too early for a jokester greeting like his. Was it insensitive of him to say something regarding her appearance? He would’ve felt worse if he pretended to be anything different than his usual self. Was that what Kara wanted? But he carefully tried to gouge out Kara’s response, hoping to adapt to whatever she felt was comfortable.

He glanced back up to her. He couldn’t even be upset that she was still taller than him. Not with the scar etched on her face. A vivid reminder that she had been through horrors he couldn't even fathom. He kept his expression cool as if he hadn’t noticed anything different about her, though the awkwardness he feared creeped up on him. He didn’t want to be that person that pointed out things no one wanted to be pointed out. Or at least, his rare consideration privilege was extended to the girl before him. “ It’s been a while “ he commented, a tad bit gentler than his greeting. As if giving way to a peek behind his usual facade.
