A breath of fresh air

Luke had had a really enjoyable second day of school. All of his classes had gone exceedingly well, a lot better than he had expected- especially charms. That had been the class he had been most looking forward to and it still took him by surprise how much better it was than non-magical school.
One thing that had taken Luke by surprise is how incredibly populated it was. He came from a pretty small town in rural Worcestershire and even though Mum had warned him about the number of people there would be, it was still so much more than he had anticipated. He was very much a social person so for the most part this was a good thing- however, it was a lot more than he was used to, which is why he was headed out to the courtyard to get a breath of fresh air.
As he stepped into the cool early autumn atmosphere, he felt more relaxed instantly. There was still a good number of people but he didn't mind- he was outside, which helped him. Running his hand through his messy brown he glanced around the large courtyard for somewhere. Most benches were occupied and even a lot of floor spaces were covered with people playing gobstones and other wizard games he was new to. He did spot a bench with only one person on it near the back of the area and he headed towards it, putting on his best "hi there, I'm Luke" face and plopping down next to the person. Luke stuck his hand out and smiled widely. "My name's Luke, how 'bout you?"
As per usual when he met new people, his mind started to race uncontrollabely. 'Bloody hell, I came on too strong, didn't I? I wish there was a reset button on introductions, I always screw them up with some big goofy smile or something.'
Luke swallowed hard and forced the unnecessary thoughts out of his mind. He had a tendency to either overthink or not think at all depending on the circumstance, and this was definitely one of the thinking too much ones. He took another deep breath and waited for the person to introduce themselves.

Ashley looked up startled, she had been so focused on her sketchbook she almost missed the person plopping down next to her.
She saw his outstretched hand as he introduced himself and shyly shook it. "I'm Luke-" she blushed and started stammering at her mistake, "I mean, sorry....I'm Ashley!"
She couldn't believe she made a mistake like that. Now he would probably make fun of her for her awkwardness. She noticed she was still shaking his hand and forced herself to let go and nervously laughed at the situation.
"I'm so sorry, I don't know why I did that..." Ashley started to unbraid her hair so she could hide her red face, exactly like she did everytime she embarrassed herself. Her mom had once teased her saying that she should get long bangs to hide under 24/7, maybe her mom was right...then no one would also see the paint splotches on her face from her painting earlier that day. How she somehow misses them when she cleans her face, she'll never know! They don't seem to be there when she's looking in the mirror. Ashley shook her head, bringing herself back to the present, I can't believe I got distracted!
