Rediscovering History
It was unbelievable. Cora found herself ACTUALLY LIKING history. Before she'd come to Hogwarts, her mum had always forced her to read chapters from a random book about muggle history that she'd picked up somewhere as a young witch in her twenties. Cora's perception of history was SO skewed. Turns out, muggle history was just pure boring and this - this was the real stuff. She was so excited that she'd even taken the time to name her books properly before the class started. Feeling a bit out of character, she smudged the 'y' at the end slightly.
--
The sun was streaming in and Cora was feeling pure joy. Her new quill sat in her right hand (not a hand-me-down from her brother!) and she assessed the mini paragraph she'd hastily come up with. Certainly, it wasn't the neatest - but it was jolly well decent for her first ever history lesson.
--
At the end of the class, Cora packed up her quill and shoved her textbook ('Hogwarts: A History' by Bathilda Bagshot) into her messenger bag. She glanced at her handiwork one more time and rolled the parchment up before placing it on the professor's desk along with everyone else's work. To be honest, Cora hadn't been listening at the start of class - she didn't even remember her professor's name! It would be alright though, she had a feeling that History of Magic would stay a firm favourite in her array of classes - after all, arithmetic was still her worst enemy.
Note: Sometimes Cora wondered what 'worst enemy' even meant. If they were really such a bad enemy, didn't it mean they were actually a good friend? Shouldn't 'best enemy' be the appropriate phrase as it meant the enemy was the 'best' at being an enemy? These questions flurried around in her head and she'd soon realise that these questions would probably remain unanswered for quite some time.
