I walked down to the castle grounds, fresh air was always nice, and I had always loved walks. I had just come from classes, so I was carrying my books and notes with me. I smiled as I breathed in all of the fresh air, the classrooms had been kind of stuffy, so being outside was honestly really nice. As I was walking, I looked behind me, it sounded like someone was right there. When I turned, there was no one right behind me, strange, I though. I shrugged and turned back around to keep walking. A sudden impact hit me, I had bumped into someone else, or maybe she bumped into me, I wasn't sure. All of my the things that I had been carrying had now been dropped to the ground in front of me. I bent down to pick it up but then remebered about the other person who I collided with. "Sorry!" I immediatly said to her. I hoped that she wasn't mad at me, I hadn't meant to bump into her or anything. I looked at her, this time to see who she was. This girl was someone I had never met before. Actually, when I took another look, something about her face seemed familiar. Aha! I had seen her at the sorting ceremony! Her name was like May or something, she got sorted into Hufflepuff. Hufflepuffs are nice right, she won't be mad at me? "Erm, I'm Delainie?" I said to her, for some reason, I was honestly kind of nervous!

Esme looked at Delainie with shock for a bit. "My apologies!" She rubbed her forehead and looked at Delainie before staring at the sky. "Wǒ shì gè shǎ guā (I'm such a fool)!" Esme bent down almost immediately to grab Delainie's books for her. "Don't be sorry, I wasn't paying attention at all..." Esme looked at her feet before giving Delainie her books back, still averting her eyes nervously. "Delainie, I think I've heard of you. I'm Esme...if you wanted to know."

She felt like an idiot, she tries to avoid starting problems but she never actually does the right thing to prevent the problem at all. Esme soon realized that Delainie may have been just as nervous as her, perhaps this would blow in the wind and she would be forgotten later on. Esme rubbed on her nose and then puts her hand just below it, a subconscious habit. "If you're wondering...I'm not angry, I can't be, it was my fault anyway. Are you feeling okay?" She looked up at Delainie, though she was only 2 inches shorter, She felt smaller regardless.

Esme usually didn't talk so much in her first little bit of interaction with another person but she really did feel bad and responsible for making it better. "If anything hurts...can I see, if you'll allow me?"

For a bit, the girl just stared at me, I wasn’t sure what would happen next, then, the girl apologized. I exhaled, she wasn’t mad at me, I really wasn’t looking for enemies, especially this early in my time at Hogwarts. The girl started to pick up my books for me even, I helped her. “Thank you” I said to her. She told me that her name was Esme, I was close. Esme said that she had heard of me before, probably at the sorting. “Nice to meet you Esme” I said to her with a smile.
Esme apologized, and assured me that she wasn’t angry, and said that it was her fault, which, I didn’t believe. I smiled at her, this girl seemed nice, maybe I could make a new friend, I don’t have a friend from Hufflepuff yet. She’s actually the first Hufflepuff I’ve even met. I was a little taller than the girl, so I hoped that I wasn’t at all intimidating to her, I was still pretty short.
Esme started talking to me a bit, I enjoyed it when people weren’t to shy when I would first meet them. It looked as if maybe she was trying to show that she was nice, if so, I could already tell, she even asked me if I was ok. “Yes, I’m fine, are you ok”? I asked her as I brushed the dirt off my sleeve. I had gotten my clothes a bit dirty from being on the ground picking up my books, but other than that I was completely fine. “What’s Hufflepuff like?”

"I'm alright, thank you." Esme had appreciated the kindness and had smiled innocently, holding her hands behind her back. "Hufflepuff? Oh its so ooo cool, there are lots of plants, and a beautiful tree in the dorm room, then there are hammocks to rest in, kind people and a quiet atmosphere, then there is the fresh air, the tree looks really beautiful and well planted, sometimes I wanna climb it. I share a dorm with a good friend of mine, she's Chāokù! (Super-cool)" She bounced on her heels and grinned. "I would say though, that there can be a few bugs attracted to the plants...oh and there's a portrait of Professor Sprout. "Wǒ shízàitài xǐhuan tāle! (I love it so much)." Esme seemed to chatter a lot, she definitely was a chatter box when she got comfortable, in fact it seemed like she was slowly transitioning into Chinese, it happened every once in a while with her, its best just to tell her she's doing it since she might not realize for a bit. "What's Ravenclaw like? Are you all really some of the most clever kids in school? Do you get good grades? Do some classes come naturally?" Esme inquired, different from the shy little girl from earlier, and yet not quite, she still sometimes looked to the side or curled her hair, but she was comfortable, definitely.

Esme said that she was ok well that’s good I though. I pictured a lovely area as Esme described hat the Hufflepuff common room looked like, it seemed wonderful, so did Hufflepuffs. “My dorm in Ravenclaw’s really cool too, we have maps all around the walls and a cushion pit in the center, for stargazing! I have a top bunk, so I can stargaze from there too, although the cushions really are super comfortable!” I explained to Esme. The Hufflepuff common room sounded so nice and peaceful, I mean, ours was too, lots of people reading, but something about the one in Hufflepuff just sounded so great. “I have two dorm partners, Cassie and Madi are their names”I said. Me and Esme both liked to talk, that was good, so neither one of was annoying to the other, at least I hoped. “Ravenclaw’s really cool! Yeah I guess so, that is one of our better known traits, there can be some really smart people in other houses too though.” I said to Esme, I didn’t want to say that only Ravenckaws were smart, cause that wouldn’t be true “I mean, sometimes, I only have an average of an E though, maybe after a few moths it’ll go up to an O. Well, flying did, and I really like all of the classes that we take, but none of the other ones came naturally but I don’t struggle with them I guess is how you could put it. Esme seemed kind of shy, I looked at her in the eye and smiled sweetly, I didn’t want her to feel that way, I was nice!
