An Evening Jog
Eilis had always loved to run.
Don’t get her wrong, there were other things she enjoyed. Though she sometimes struggled to focus, she appreciated a good book and enjoyed learning, especially now that she was taking classes in magic. She liked doing crosswords and word searches, and she had a talent for violin that she’d been honing for some time now. But nothing, nothing, could ever outdo her love for running.
The feeling of the sturdy earth subtly flexing beneath her her feet, the pounding of her heart in her chest, the feeling of being strong and alive--what could be better than that? Track practices at her old school had always ended with her muscles sore, but warm and reliable, as they always were. She had always been slender, but she did have muscle, wiry yet firm in her limbs, and she could depend on it.
Eilis breathed in the crisp, snowflake-speckled air, and pushed herself to run just a little faster. Curfew would be coming soon, but she hadn’t been able to find the time to run earlier in the day and was determined to do at least one full, proper lap every day. Never mind that it was cold and dark, with a gentle flurry of snow just beginning to fall. She was nearly done; she’d be in before the weather got any more intense.
She rounded a corner, breathing hard, braid thumping against her back—and found someone else standing directly in her path.
“Oh!” she gasped, stopping so abruptly that she almost tumbled into them anyway. When she’d regained her balance, she pressed a hand against the stone wall beside her, breathing hard as she glanced up at her unexpected companion. “Geez, sorry,” she panted, “Wasn’t expecting anyone else to be out.”

An Evening Jog
Arielle was strolling through the grounds, incredibly bored, looking for something, anything, to do. The snow was falling lightly over the beautiful grounds. It was still reasonably early, close to six, but Hogwarts had an early curfew at six. It was a crisp evening, cold, with snow, already. Arielle lived in a cold place when she was younger. It was usual to snow around Halloween there! But this was a long time ago. Her memories there were few and far between, for she had only been about four when she had moved to a much warmer place. It never snowed there! She had more memories there than before, but these were still scarce, for she had only lived there until six. She then moved overseas to India, and it was hot there! Now, she lived in London, so she had warm weather in summer, but still cold winters. But here it was colder than London. It was getting colder, so Arielle stopped walking, pulled on her hat and gloves and tightened her scarf. She pulled out her winter coat and pulled it tightly around her, considerably warmer, as she came close to a corner. She was about to round it, when a first year Gryffindor girl with red hair and blue eyes came running around the corner, almost bumping into her. "Oh!" the girl gasped, skidding to a halt. "Geez, sorry. Wasn't expecting anyone else to be out."
"You're fine. My name is Arielle: what's yours?"

A pen is my sword, so I will use it.

An Evening Jog
At the question, Eilis raised her gaze, still breathing heavily. She hadn’t really had much chance to socialize since she’d come to Hogwarts, and all the friends she’d had back home had been her friends since they were all in diapers. Suffice to say, she was a little out of practice, so introducing herself hadn’t been at the forefront of her mind. She blushed sheepishly at the prompt, a little embarrassed she’d forgotten, but it was easily disguised by the flush that excercise always brought to her cheeks.
“Eilis Halloran,” she introduced, straightening up a little more as some of her breath came back, “Pleasure. Phew...” She smoothed a few damp flyaways hairs back from her forehead, breathing in deep through her nose. She’d hardly noticed the cold when she was running, the blood pumping through her veins keeping her warm, but now that’s was still, she could feel the chill settling into her skin. Soon enough, her sweat would freeze, and wouldn’t she be miserable then.
“God, it’s nippy out,” she commented with a breathless chuckle, placing her hands on her hips and arching her chest to stretch it, after being hunched over, “I hardly noticed running, but it gets you when you’re still, doesn’t it?”
