Frustration
This had not been the best week for Sonya. She had many classes with lots of homework, which wasn't the most fun and she hadn't been super social. She expected to have plenty of friends by now but everyone seemed to have their own groups. She tried to talk to as many people as possible but she never made any actual friends. First week at Hogwarts and she only had one real friend to show for it, at least it was better than nothing.
She decided to take herself and her homework to the grounds. Sonya found nature soothing maybe being outside would help her think. She sat down and opened her herbology book. She liked herbology but it could be difficult at times. She looked at her homework parchment and began to write down answers. She then came across something she didn't know. She flipped through the book but couldn't find the answer. She gave a sigh of frustration then decided to give up on herbology and switch to charms. Easy right?
Wrong. Sonya managed to get through some of the questions but several left her stumped. She groaned and laid down on the grass looking up at the sky. She stayed their admiring the clouds. She could stay like this forever if it were up to her.

Frustration
The grounds were... they weren't Daniel's favorite spot. He preferred hidden places tucked in dusty, semi-forgotten corridors of the castle. It felt comforting being inside. But, he liked some places outside. The water was calming. He liked hearing the way the water hit the windows and stone of his dorm room. Soothing was it was, he would miss it when it came down leaving for the holidays, or leaving in general. He had seven years to change his mind, though. After all, what was life without trying to adjust to new things and situations?
Either way, he moved silently along the pathway towards the lake. He wasn't too interested in trying to make friends with people - why do that? They were all pawns for his own gain, a mutable dissonance between himself and the world. He pondered how others viewed him: a loner? A wolf? Someone who was super unfriendly? Although... when it came down to it, he didn't care what their stupid perceptions of him were.
He paused as he watched a girl flip through a book, seem super focused, but then fell backwards, as if she gave up. He sneered to himself: no, Daniel, do not help. It wasn't his problem. He wanted to move along but stopped when he was it was Charms. He liked charms enough, that he'd definitely know something maybe. He doubted it. He doubted he'd be much help.
"You'd have a better time doing your homework if you actually read the book," he suggested, a little dryly. He hadn't meant it to come out that way. Oh well.

Frustration
Sonya was gazing peacefully at the beautiful sky when she heard a voice.
She took a deep breath before giving him a quick glance of a once over and speaking again. "You know, you really shouldn't be that rude to someone you've never met," she said, not sounding angry or unfriendly, but instead kind and peaceful. She tilted her head slightly and waited for a response from the boy.
"Excuse me?" Sonya said, raising an eyebrow and sitting up. She turned her head a bit and saw a boy, most likely her age, wearing a Slytherin robe. She could not believe the rudeness she had just heard. Maybe she looked like she was pathetic, not actually reading and instead flopping down. So what? It wasn't any of this boy's business what she did. This boy was being rude, and she hated that. She especially hated when people judged someone and was mean, before actually even meeting them. Still, she would keep an open mind and not be rude back to him. After all, he could have not meant it to come out that way or just be having a bad day. That sort of thing happens to the best of us. Sonya tried to remain positive."You'd have a better time doing your homework if you actually read the book,"

As Daniel watched the girl, he only allowed an eyebrow to raise. She quipped towards him, almost as if she wanted him to repeat himself. So he did. He put more emphasis on his words as he repeated himself. “You’d have a better time doing your homework if you actually read the book.” Okay, so he came off as a little insincere, or even a little brash. It didn’t mean that he wasn’t a nice person. He was nice… when he wanted to be. He was just pointing out the obvious. She seemed like she was more interested in cloud watching than doing her homework.
For some reason, Daniel couldn’t even figure out why. Charms homework was interesting. Charms was definitely one of the classes he enjoyed the most. Yeah, there were so many jobs that involved basic charms. He pondered about this as he let an eyebrow raise. Her voice remained calm, as if what he said hadn’t effected her. Not that he would care one way or another. Daniel said what was on his mind, very rarely with a filter, so it didn’t bother him at all.
“I wasn’t being rude, I was simply telling you the truth. If you want to finish your homework, you have to read from the book. You won’t learn charms by looking at how pretty the sky is today,” the Slytherin replied simply. He wasn’t in the mood to deal with girls and their weird cooties and having to shuffle between being “nice” just for the sake of saving face. That was silly. He didn’t care all that much.

Sonya sighed when the boy finished talking. He was a little brash and more than a little blunt, but he did have a point. It would be better if she actually focused on her homework rather than just wanting to do something else. "I guess you're right," she said. He could've maybe said it a bit nicer, but Sonya didn't say that.
As much as this boy came off as a bit of a nuisance, she hopped her first impressions would be wrong. He now probably thought she was just lazy and obnoxious. She didn't like leaving bad impressions. It was okay for her if someone began to dislike her but she didn't want anyone to draw to conclusions from talking to her once. She liked to spend a fair amount of time with someone before anyone jumped to conclusions. Of corse, that wasn't always possible but Sonya liked to try to live in her own perfect little world.
She sat up fully and crossed her legs then reached for the book. She opened it to the chapter she needed and started to read. She was pretty good a multitasking so she started to speak so the boy wouldn't leave just yet. "Anyways, what's your name?" she asked, not looking up from the book, "I'm Sonya."

He struggled to not roll her eyes. The only comment she could come up with was something that was obvious. Of course he was right. Daniel didn't say something that didn't mean he would be wrong. If he was wrong, he wasn't stupid enough to say he wasn't wrong. If she didn't understand something, she had to learn it via reading. Cloud gazing didn't mean that she would understand the concepts behind magic. He stuffed his hands into his pockets and, quickly, tried to reason with himself. He could just walk away and leave this girl as is. It wasn't like it was hurting him if she failed her classes.
His eyes danced over her face before he watched as she sat up. She wound up reading while talking with him, and his face drew even more annoyance at that. If she wanted to learn, why bother talking? If she wanted to talk, why bother reading? Daniel didn't understand people. He liked their complexities, the way they worked, but hated the fact that sometimes they were such contradictions. He sneered, without really realizing it. His nose wrinkled and the small freckles over the bridge of his nose creased at the face he was making. This was a waste of his time.
She introduced herself after asking what his name was. A moment of hesitation from Daniel; should he really introduce himself to such a Hufflepuff? Weren't Hufflepuffs supposed to put in the idea of hard work and motivation or whatever? He could vaguely remember the hat's stupid song. He didn't care.
"Daniel. I do suggest you either choose reading or talking. You can't properly focus if you're trying to do both. If you're trying to learn something, then you should read. If you want to make 'friends' you should talk." Ultimately, he knew it really wasn't his decision what she did; but he didn't care.
No skin off his bones if she failed her classes.

Sonya lightly rolled her eyes unknowingly, still looking down at the book. Once she realized she had done that she hoped he hadn't seen. Daniel was just so rude. She was perfectly fine reading and talking at the same time. She just needed to grab the information out of the book and then put it on paper for her homework. It wasn't too interesting but after she did it she'd know the information for the class. It just wasn't something that was interesting Sonya so she wasn't going to focus all her efforts into it. Of corse she would still make sure it was quality work, it just didn't feel too urgent. She honestly didn't see the big deal.
She sighed and looked up at Daniel. "Look, I think I can decide for myself if I can read and talk at the same time." Her frustration was mounting so she went back into her book and looked some more. She spotted an answer so she wrote something down on it. As she thought about the situation she just got more annoyed. Why would someone be so brash? Couldn't he just keep to himself and not bother her with his "advice."
"Look, I do want to make friends but you don't seem too pleasant," she glowered slightly, "You could just leave if you don't want to talk."

This girl, whatever her name was - and frankly, Daniel didn’t really care to remember it - gave sound advice on her own. He watched as she scribbled something down as she talked. He doubted it was the right answer, whatever the answer was. He wasn’t one to socialize while he did his work. Maybe that was what made him a Slytherin. He had his priorities straight while everyone else didn’t. He clicked his tongue lightly and shrugged at her statement about her decision. Whatever she wanted, he figured. It wasn’t his problem if she flunked her year at Hogwarts and had to share a bedroom with children younger than her.
He made no comment but allowed his slender shoulders to shrug at her point about him having the ability to leave. “Great. I’d rather have conversation with someone who’s interested in promoting their learning, and not socializing,” the Slytherin said. Yeah, he knew he was brash; he didn’t really care, either. He shrugged his shoulders, stepped around the weird Hufflepuff and headed on his way along the path. At least now he didn’t have to deal with small talk. He doubted that was an actual thing, but maybe one day it could actually happen.
