Lemon Juice Pet

It was a sunny Saturday morning; the sun was shining, and the birds were chirping. It was warm out and the feeling of the sun on her skin reminded Nara of the beach. Sand beneath her feet and the ocean air through her curly hair. It felt nice.
But there wasn't sand beneath her feet. Instead, the cobblestone pathway of Diagon Alley reminded her of her position every time her sneakers pressed against the ground. She kicked a rock as her mother pointed out what books she'd need this year. Maybe even some new quills and parchment paper. Boring.
Her eyes drew over the stores as she watched people enter the stores and exit them with bags in hand, or even floating beside them. A part of Nara silently cursed her mother for not using magic more often. How nice it would be to not have to carry all her bags, and it was all at her disposal! (Well, not Nara's disposal. She had heard of the tracing on underaged wizards, and the fear that she could get kicked out of school made her recoil at the thought of casting a spell.)
"Oh... and what about some new robes?" The voice of her mother peaked through her thoughts, and Nara looked up at Robin. "I dunno, I think I'm good," she murmured, watching as an orange cat behind the glass of some pet shop jumped up and tried to swat at a fly outside. A cat would be a nice companion for Hogwarts. A little kitten helping her cast magic would be fun.
"You know, I think I should get a cat." Nara tapped her mom, pointing at the Menagerie. "For school, y'know? All of my friends have pets." Lie. Nara wasn't even sure if any of her friends had pets, it wasn't something she particularly talked about when talking to her few friends. Those conversations mostly consisted of schoolwork and hanging out after classes ended.
Robin paused, tilting her head side to side as she considered the options. On one hand, this would be a good time to give her daughter some responsibilities- she was nearing up on being a teenager, and she would have to learn how to take care of things one way or another. On the other hand, Nara still had trouble waking up on time, and with her lycanthropy, bringing another animal into the mix might not necessarily be the smartest idea.
But... having a cat around the house would be nice. And it wasn't like Nara was one to miss drinking her Wolfsbane potion, so maybe it wouldn't be the worst idea. "Alright, alright." Robin relented, crossing the street to approach the menagerie, with Nara in tow.
The smell of animals hit the two of them immediately, and the many colors of different animals might've been a bit overstimulating, but Nara was too excited at the prospect of having a pet. She already knew what she wanted already- definitely a cat. They weren't the lowest maintenance, but they required less care than something niche like a bunny or a lizard.
Nara scanned the cats around the Menagerie as her mother discussed something with the woman at the counter. Something about the different pets Hogwarts student typically bought. Rats and toads, and then cats and owls. But Nara was still laser-focused on watching that orange cat from earlier. It had still yet to catch the fly successfully.
Her lips pressed together as she approached the cat. It wasn't really focused on Nara herself, so she reached her fingers through the cage and poked it lightly. The cat jumped with a sudden force, and Nara opted to poke it again, eliciting a playful bite in response. Opposites attract.
"Mum." Nara called, turning around to see her mother still talking to the older lady at the counter. Her mother turned around and locked eyes with Nara, and then looked over at the cat who was now trying to chew her daughter's finger. Yep, that kid definitely found her new pet.
The orange cat (who had now been named Lemon Juice) had still not stopped trying to play with Nara as herself and her mother exited the shop. He continued to jump and play even inside the small confines of his temporary carrier. Opposites definitely attract.
