“Looks like it,” Seamus glanced back out the window, toward the imposing tower, “there’s bells at the top of every hour, that must be where they come from. Come on, let’s check it out!”

Seamus traced the angle of the exterior walkway he could see and deduced that the connection point couldn’t be too much further ahead of them. He led the way a few dozen meters down the hallway until the two students came upon a thick wooden door. The half-giant grasped the latch, and with moderate exertion, pulled it open. It was only the first few centimeters that gave him trouble, as a howling gale that whipped up outside shoved the door the rest of the way, air billowing into the hallway with a low droning sound. Seamus waved Kristen through to the walkway and heaved the door shut behind them, which required a great deal more force than opening it due to the force of the wind.

The wind whipped Seamus’s unmanageable hair this way and that around his head, blowing it and his robes into a dramatic silhouette. The large lad sighed with satisfaction and looked around. The stone walkway stood high above the majority of the castle, and the view from it was spectacular. The grounds stretched out for kilometers around them. The trees of the Forbidden Forest rustled in the breeze, and the Great Lake was striated with ripples of white as windblown waves made their way across its surface. Seamus put both hands against the stone railing and looked straight down, relishing the dizzying drop five stories down. He had always enjoyed high places, and found it strange that anyone could have a fear of heights. The higher up you were, the less likely it was for anything to sneak up on you.

“This is great!” Seamus hollered above the wind, “Lot more craic in this than rotting in Transfiguration!”
