The Great Escape
Seamus hunched over the tiny desk, cheeks resting on his palms with the desperate look of a boy bored to the brink of tears. He squinted at the chalkboard, trying to make sense of the abstract characters that represented… what was it again? What item led to which concept? Or was it the other way around? Either way, it was like learning a foreign language, one that Seamus couldn’t grasp the faintest inklings of its potential usefulness. Why would anything need to be anything else? Why not simply bring both things with you if you thought you might need them?
The oversized lad shifted in his seat, trying his best not to jostle his partner who shared his desk while his elbows threatened to crack the wooden surface in half. His giant blood had always set him head-and-shoulders above his primary school classmates, but he had done a lot of growing over the past year that he hadn’t been in school, and after mostly interacting with adults during that time, he quickly had realized how much he loomed over his peers at just over six feet tall.
Seamus pivoted to glance down at the girl sitting beside him. She shared his unmanageable mane of red hair, though hers had much more curl to it. An idea struck him about how to escape current predicament, and she could help him accomplish it. Could she be trusted? After a moment of consideration, Seamus decided that his partner was no narc, and he leaned over slightly.
“I don’t think I can take another second of this,” Seamus murmured out of the corner of mouth, “I can think of a hundred places I’d rather be right now.”

The Great Escape
Kristin pouted as she clutched her stomach. Well, she did have a tiny stomach ache but she was exaggerating the discomfort because of how antsy she was feeling. She wished she could be excused so she could go wander the halls, and not be stuck in class bored and with potential bubble guts, but she knew better, based off how other mischievous kids in the school ended up after doing nonsense.
Well, not that is discouraged her that much, but she also didn't have any ideas on how to leave yet and the topic for the day wasn't too bad. She loved spellcasting and Transfiguration bequeath fascinating results. Her love seemed to not be shared by her table partner, though.
This boy was big and burly—actually big wasn't even the best word for it honestly—and probably more antsy than her, if that were even possible. Luckily he didn't seem like a rude person so she wasn't that bothered by his presence, Kristin could tolerate everything but an attitude, because she could deliver one back, unless it was her grandmother, of course.
Kristin glanced at the boy when he adjusted, since he'd made the whole table creak, and his stature threatened to knock her a bit. She realized that yes he was a first year and incredibly large, and that thought made her fitted, than laugh. She held her laugh behind her hand, not wanting to draw unwarranted attention to herself from the professor. He had to be around six foot standing. A freaking eleven year old? Kristin noticed him when he came in but after that she had been focused on class and hadn't paid him too much attention. Now she was trying not to focus on him.
Suddenly he addressed her. She readied herself, thinking he would get upset because of her very good attempts to be quiet about her snickers, but thankfully he didn't seem to notice at all, simply going about his how restless he was.
Kristin cocked her head up to look at him inquiringly. What was he getting at? "Yeh? The door is available for use," she whispered back. Heck, if he was trying to leave, maybe she would to.
Actually, no maybe, I will. Kristin acted like she was scratching her nose. "What of it?"

The Great Escape
“Wait, can you really just… do that here?” Seamus scratched his head, tucking a lock of hair behind his ear. “That seems like, I don’t know, a fast track to detention.”
The half-giant briefly considered the simplicity of his partner’s suggestion, and her stifled giggles probably meant that she was just as anxious to leave as he. However, simply gathering up his books and strolling out the door would be so… artless. To escape from a class as dull as this would require a certain amount of, well, class.
The half-giant giant rummaged in his pockets, trying to ascertain what tools he had on hand to improvise his way out of the room. His fingers closed on a yielding fluid-filled pouch. Ah, the ketchup packet he had swiped from a muggle restaurant some months prior. That might be just the thing. He removed it from his pocket and kept it hidden in his hand. Now all he needed was a distraction.
“I’ve got a plan,” he whispered to the girl next to him, “whenever you’re ready, slide your book over so that it knocks mine off the table. After that, just follow my lead.

Well, Kristin didn't think much of just leaving, though they could be surprised on how that turned out if they actually tried. Sometimes people weren't as clever or dull as they would seem at this school, even the professors. But the boy clearly didn't get her sarcasm. But he sure did manage to match it, with his remark.
She sighed and went back to half paying attention, wondering what the rest of the hour would be like since things didn't seem to be going anywhere, when she noticed that the boy was rummaging through his pocket. She wouldn't have noticed if they hadn't started speaking to one another, even with his big size. She glanced around but no one that she could see seemed to be paying attention.
He then whispered to her, claiming that he had a plan, which involved her sliding her book over so his would fall off the table. Kristin thought it was a strange idea, not noticing that he had something in his hand, but didn't bothering saying as much. He was the apparent mastermind, after all.
Kristin shrugged and eyed for the professor and any potential onlookers before keenly sliding her book to the side before sharply elbowing it so it knocked off the table. Her skin stung where it hit the object but she ignored, more excited about what was to come than anything. Luckily she was able to conceal her excitement behind a faux surprised then concerned look as she waited for her neighbor to move forward with whatever plan he had conjured up. Her adrenaline was sure doing it's job.

The Great Escape
Seamus waited for the thump of the book hitting the ground, then he sprang into action. He shifted the sauce packet in his hand, folding it in half and sliding it between his thumb and index finger.
“Don’t worry, I’ll get it!” The boy announced, his earlier pretense of subtlety seemingly forgotten.
The half-giant scooted his chair back with a comically loud grinding noise, then, now that his bulky frame had room to move forward, he abruptly bent over, reaching for the book with his empty hand. His forehead slammed into the edge of the desk as he did so, the dense thunk echoing around the walls of the classroom. All according to plan, of course, with the speed at which he moved, any onlooker would have thought he hit any part of his face. Quickly, while his face was down, Seamus held the ketchup packet under his nose and squeezed.
It exploded at the fold, splattering his nostrils and upper lip with thick red goop. Seamus jerked his head back upright, sauce dripping from his nose. Palming the packet once more, he touched his free hand to his nose and reacted with mock horror at the crimson stain it came back with.
“Bloody hell!” Seamus bellowed, feigning shock and pain, “I… I think I need to go to the nurse’s office!”
He stood up suddenly, knocking his chair over with the backs of his knees, and it clattered to the floor, adding to the cacophony the huge lad was creating. His forehead throbbed where he had smacked it against the desk, but he was remarkably thick-skulled. It wouldn’t even bruise.
“Merlin’s beard! Merlin’s trousers!” He flailed toward the door and shoulder checked the frame, stumbling into the hallway, “Merlin’s, uh, pointy hat! I don’t even know where the nurse is!”

The Great Escape
Kristin's eyes were almost tell-talling wide as the plan unfolded. After shoving her book, she had pretended to be engrossed in jotting notes down but was soon met with the loud thud of skull against table. Her nostrils flared as she did her very best not to make any sound that resembled laughter, even though a few other students did. She cleared her throat, then contorted her face into mock pity and shock as the boy brought up his face only to have something that resembled blood dripping down.
She clapped her hand of her mouth, actually shocked this time. "Hell—" Way to go with the theatrics. A little too invested in being convincing, I'd say. The Hufflepuff thought it was real blood, but at closer inspection she realized that it wasn't the right consistency. Ay, where did he get that bit from? Did he plan before classes? And how did he even store it, she wondered, not that familiar with ketchup packets.
Kristin looked around at the class as everyone took in the situation, some looking frightened or disgusted by the blood, while others seemed thankful they could also be distracted from the day's lesson.
The boy said he needed to go the Nurse's Office, but didn't have a clue where it was. She took that as her que. The Hospital Wing was two floors below them, but she knew that's not where they'd be heading once they left the room.
Kristin place a hand on his forearm in concern. "Oh, I know where it is, I can take you there!" She pretended to wince at his 'wound'. "That's definitely going to leave a mark."
She gathered the little stuff she has quickly and proceeded to head out the room, staying close to the boy. She seemed more focused on helping him than anyone else who might be watching as they went. She nodded at the professor and held the door for the boy before leaving the room.
When the door was closed and they were at a reasonable distance away, Kristin laughed and looked at the red substance in bewilderment as they walked. "Mission accomplished, yeah? And what's up with that," she said, pointing at the 'blood'.

The Great Escape
Seamus glanced behind, making sure the two were out of earshot of the Transfiguration classroom before he spoke. He opened his hand so his new friend could see the now-exploded piece of plastic rumpled in his palm before he shoved it back in his pocket.
“Muggles call it ‘ketchup,’” Seamus grinned and wiped the faux-blood off his face with the sleeve of his robes, “it’s sort of a sweet tomato-y sauce that they like to put on chips. Most places keep it in these tiny little pouches with no air so that it never goes bad, like, ever.”
Seamus strode down the corridor, heading, well, he wasn’t really sure, but definitely somewhere. He was ecstatic with glee; what he had just pulled off was the sort of plan that his old friend Winston would have been proud to come up with, and he was always the lad with the ideas. Come to think of it, he was there when Seamus had gotten the packet in the first place. How the tables had turned: now Seamus was the scheming one, and the girl who now walked beside him was his accomplice. It was good to have new friends, the last year had been a lonely one for him.
“I swiped the packet from a muggle restaurant in Belfast before I left,” Seamus elaborated, “was the last time I got to see my best friend, Winston. He’s a muggle too, but the two of us were thick as thieves. Right couple of dossers, we were. I took it, to, I don’t know, flavor something, I guess. But this is even better.”
Seamus realized that he was starting to monologue and cut himself off. His mother would have been cross with him for how impolite he’d been up to this point.
“I’m Seamus, by the way,” he extended a meaty hand to the much smaller redhead, “old Aarden’s not the best with icebreakers, is he?”

The Great Escape
"Catch up? That's so strange." Because muggles couldn't use magic, Kristin couldn't be too surprised about the contraptions they created in order to manage through life. While wizards could simply wave their wand or utter an incantation, the non-magic had to create types of things in order to make life easier for them. While many of the wizard kind found them odd, Kristin, along with her stepmother, found them intriguing and exceedingly innovative. How could one be so condescending to those who outnumbered their kind, she could never know.
She found it interesting that Seamus had muggle interactions the way he described. Kristin came from wizards on both sides, her father being Pureblood, and she spent most of her time learning about her own culture and just enough to be aware of the muggles and their history. Along side the information that her stepmother's interest beheld from her fascination with them.
Kristin accepted the hand and shook it, glancing around to make sure they weren't being watched or followed. "Kristin! Who's 'Old Aarden'? And...I don't have an issue or anything, but are you Muggleborn? You seem to have history with being around muggles and all, unlike some of us."
She also considered where they could go now that they weren't stuck in class. She felt like Seamus didn't have a good idea, they were just lucky to be free, but they obviously couldn't wander the halls forever. Kristin wondered about the hidden places that allegedly riddled the castle. She wanted to explore them but honestly didn't have much of a clue where to start.
"Have you explored much here yet? I actually don't have the slightest idea where to go, really..."

The Great Escape
Seamus returned the handshake with gusto, his hand utterly engulfing Kristen’s much smaller one. He hoped everyone at Hogwarts was this tolerant, spending a year in the woods as a real culchie hadn’t done wonders for his social life.
“Aarden’s the professor,” Seamus laughed, “so I guess the answer is yes! Normally classes start with this script of ‘Stand up at your desk and tell everyone your name, your favorite color, and one interesting fact about yourself.’ At least, that’s how it was in primary school.”
A noise echoed down the hallway in the direction of the classroom and the boy instinctively broke into a jog, ducking down a corridor to the left to get the pair out of sight. Seamus stopped in front of a window and glanced out. A few dozen meters from the floor he and Kristen were on, an enormous clock tower rose from the foundation of the school, with a fifth-floor walkway that connected to some point down the hallway ahead. That was where they needed to go.
“To answer your other question, it was a primary school for muggles. My mam is a witch, but she always had a sort of respect for those folk. ‘It’s a big world out there, Seamus,’ she always said, ‘and not all of it belongs to us. So see all of it that you can.’ My da can’t do magic, but I don’t think you’d call him a muggle. He’s, well, he’s the reason I’m…”
Seamus trailed off, ending his sentence by making a vague gesture toward himself.

The Great Escape
Kristin felt herself flush out of embarrassment, still following his lead as they maneuvered. Amidst her excitement thoughts of the professor had slipped her mind, or maybe she tried to forget about them in a superstitious out sight, out of mind kind of thing. Luckily he wasn't the type to make fun of things like that, because she would've probably snapped at him and made this whole adventure come to an end quickly out of vanity. Sometimes it felt kind of pathetic for her to be that way, so defensive, but she didn't feel like she could help it..
Seamus explained that his had attended muggle school because of his mother's fondness of them. She found that rather fascinating. Kristin could hardly imagine what that would be like, attending a school full of the non-magical, including the professors. They wouldn't be taught a thing about magic, not even history. She felt like it would be an awful experience, though maybe having parents who knew about magic would help it all a great deal.
And then he implied that his father was the reason why he was so big. Kristin imagined how that came to be. Her parents were both human wizards but she had sure enough heard about those who came from another breed, like goblins, veela, even werewolves. Actually, one of her uncles had married a woman who was a Dhampir, which was curious enough. She had always thought it'd be cool to have been from one of those, and all the perks, and downfalls, of being so.
"Well, we all pretty much figured you were part giant, almost took my hand off with that one," she cried, regarding the handshake. She didn't say anything about her forgetting their professor's name. "I think it's quite interesting, honestly. That should mean that many don't take a fancy to messing with you, yeah? Less they want to get set to the nurse's with one push."
She had also heard the noise, too, and ran quietly because of her light footsteps, only running to keep up with his longer strides. She noticed that they were heading towards the clock tower. "Say, what do you reckon is up there, the clock area? Sort of heard rumors."
