It was another lazy, weekend afternoon for Donald. The sun was setting and casting a pretty yellow hue through the castle windows. He held a donut he'd just raided from the kitchens; a round pastry glazed with sugar that for some reason had a hole in the middle. This was a fact Donald never understood about his favorite treat. He got less of it because they always had a big gap in the middle (In reality, he often just used that as an excuse to grab two: one for now, one for the road). A set of crumbs and residue on his robes gave away that this fresh donut wasn't his first of the afternoon.

Currently, the path ahead of Donald was guiding him from the Kitchens out to a courtyard to enjoy the views of the setting sun over Hogwarts Valley. The lake was shimmering in the distance, and everything seemed to be settling down around the castle as night approached. It was a good footnote to a day spent indoors studying material rather than enjoying life. Being behind in classes just wasn't acceptable, even for the Hufflepuff nature deep within the boy. However, Donald had to at least get some enjoyment from the day, beyond slowly turning into a Ravenclaw.

"If I'm not careful, my robes will turn blue." Donald mused to himself as he strode around a corner, oblivious to anything that might be waiting there.

It was time for try two.

Marietta had packed the usual scented oils, snacks, and extra shoes. This time was different however, this time she had an extra set of socks too! There was no way she was face planting into a fountain this time! Especially, because she had made sure before hand that this, temptingly smooth and waxed hall, didn't end in a fountain. It was the perfect weekend afternoon to re-attempt hall sliding.

A little context for her venture: Most children when they are young and have smooth floors and fluffy socks somewhere in their house do indoor ice skating. Now if one has an observant enough eye, one would notice that the halls in Hogwarts seemed to stretch on forever. And, they are waxed every other week or so in rotating order. Meaning every other weekend, there should be a freshly waxed floor. Put this all together and what do you get? The perfect afternoon activity, hall sliding!

Marietta began to run down the hall her feet begining to slip already. The trick was to lean into the slip but keep going. Her hair began to flap behind her, it was time. Marietta stopped running but kept moving, gliding down the hall as if she was on a high speed cloud. Down, down, down, the hall she went! And then BAM! She had reached the end of the hall. But it wasn't the wall she smashed into, oh no, it was another Hufflepuff!

Marietta stumbled to get up; not really seeing much. "Oh-Oh no! Not agian! My goodness a-are you okay? Are you hurt?!"

The collision was sudden, unexpected, and almost silent in its approach. Donald had been lost in pleasant thoughts and gazing at the windows opposite of the direction the other Hufflepuff came sliding in from. His eyes went wide and all he could do was witness what came next.

Falling through the air, twisting and turning, seemed to be in slow in motion. The hard floor was not going to be a happy landing. The second collision, far worse than the first, was with this floor. Snap! Two halves now sat on the hard floor, truly destroyed and dead.

"My... my doughnut..." he muttered, the wind seemingly knocked out of him as he wheezed it out while collecting himself. Donald never fell, but it did make him stumble and toss his treat.

It took a moment, as he seemed to frown down at the broken doughnut, before he glanced back to the girl. "Hm yeah, I'm okay... What.. were you doing?"

Donald shook his head to clear his mind and recover from the loss. His eyes glanced down to see she was in her socks. That was a bit odd. She seemed to have a little setup of sorts here, which was even more confusing.

"Wait.. again?" he interrogated with a squint.

Marietta, now having regained her sight, dusted herself off.

"Yes! Again!" She said with a wide toothy grin. "I like to call it 'Hall Sliding' I know, I know, its not super creative. But I feel like it has a certain ring to it, ya know? Hall Sliding" she'd say that last part while making an arch with her hands then doing a little jazz hands at the end. "I guess doing the motion might be whats fun about saying it I mean who doesn't love-" She'd do the arch and Jazz hands again. "Its fun to do! Anyways, have you ever pretended to ice skate on the hard floor in socks? That's basically what I'm doing, expect in this lovely hall! I was taking a walk a while back and realized how long the halls were and how they were regularly waxed, so I went: Hey! What if, I slid down these freshly waxed halls in my socks; just like I did at home. So, I did!" she'd at last conclude.

While talking Marietta was talking she seemed to pick up speed and energy as she went on. Full on bouncing on her heels by then end. It was obvious she was very passionate about this! ...Or just really passionate and energetic. In general. "So yeah, sorry I snapped your doughnut! Last time I tripped and crashed pr-e-tty hard into the courtyard fountain. I guess that was the again you were talking about since I said 'Oh no not again' . Though technically this would be the first time I crashed into somebody, this is the second time I've crashed into something while hall sliding" She'd say just rambling on and on.

She'd open her mouth to continue then close it realizing she'd probably reached her talking quota. for this conversation. Idiot! You haven't even introduced yourself! Its no wonder you don't have friends. Marietta would chide herself mentally. "Sorry I could go on for hours, please tell me to shut up if I get to be too much." She'd hold out her hand. "I'm Marietta, Marietta Griffis! And you are?"
