One of Elena's favourite places to find peace was out by the lakeside. The tall trees were perfect for hiding in, and so that's what she did. Elena had climbed halfway up her favourite one, a smaller evergreen, and was quietly reading. Today, she'd finally remembered to bring some of the dark grey cloth she'd bought up and had made a little hammock for herself, she lay back on it and gently swayed from side to side. The sky was slightly dark and cloudy as it neared late afternoon, even though it wasn't going to rain the other students were mostly using the grey sky as a reason to stay inside and be loud. Very loud.

Elena smiled, the school had started to feel like home, but part of her still wished that there were more places to hide away from all the noise of the other students. She didn't mind dealing with a couple of the students, she particularly liked Bella Hills, the girl had just clicked with her for some reason. Quinn Healy was nice, and had paid her pretty well for the info, the only good thing to come out of that whole mess was his friendship. Rorie had come in like a hurricane and pretty much told Elena that they were friends, but she'd disappeared and Elena had barely seen her for weeks.

She leaned back and closed her eyes. Today was going a lot better than expected.

"You know," The boy began, adressing the girl in the tree next to his. "I find it immensely odd how a person can run in to new people in the most bizarre places here at Hogwarts." His head snapped towards Elena's general direction.

He had arrived an hour of two before the girl had climbed her tree. Not for any particular reason at all. Just another one of his many wandering trips around the castle. It's what he always resorted to when he found himself with some spare time. Although admittedly, he was behind on homework. He'd have to give that a little extra push if he wanted to keep his seat in this school. Despite having attended Hogwarts for a few months, it had already turned into a second home to him .And the more he stayed here, the more the "normal: world seemed like a distant dream. Yet he would not forget his father. The poor man would probably feel alone from time to time now that "bearcub" had left the lair. But his father knew his son would need to to brave this adventure like the true knight he had raised him to be. That adventuring got him here. In a tree. Talking to a neighbouring tree.

"Don't you agree?" he smirked as he waited for a reply. "I'm Hugh by the way, Hugh Lowe"

One of the few things Elena was not good at was realising when there's other people nearby, which meant she had no idea when Hugh had actually shown up, or if he was already there when she had arrived. Which meant there was a chance he'd seen the extremely embarrassing dance number she'd done to the tune of Eye of The Tiger as she had made her way over. She had also been near screeching the lyrics in the belief there was nobody around to hear her yelling random rock songs. The realisation someone may have seen her doing embarrassing singing instead of her usual performing made her go a little bit red.

“I’m inclined to agree with you there, for example would’ve thought that two people would both climb trees right next to each other. I’m Elena, Elena Jones, it’s nice to meet you Hugh. Good smirk by the way, it’s almost charming, did you practice it?” She grinned at the other kid, having collected herself.

“Given my experience it would actually be a statistical anomaly to meet someone somewhere normal, or to meet someone normal to start with. Normals don’t often like or talk to me. Elena laughed, “So, what brings you to the second best tree by the lake then Lowe? Peace and quiet or just an adventure?”

"Aye, everyday in the mirror!" He chuckled in response to the girl. "Me dad assures me it'll one day make someone go nuts for it." He mused a bit to his own as he locked his hands behind his head. The blue haired girl continued to talk, something about strategical anomellies? "Second best? Excuse you?" The scottish lad jumped up on his branch and shot a pointing finger at her. "I'll have you know this mighty fine tree's name's dubbed Robert." He went on to pat the thick bark. "He's me faithful companion in our mighty crusade for some long overdue peace and quiet." He winked at her, to show it was all for good fun.

"Now." The boy continued, quite interested in the newly met girl. "What house are you supposed to be in? You certainly smack some words around like a raven." Or maybe that was simply because he noticed her blue hair? He shrugged a bit at his own wild guess. Not that it really mattered. He's been friends with anyone from any house. He wasn't even sure why they got sorted in them. He pushed himself of his branch and landed on another, slightly closer to the girl's tree. He let himself hang upside down a bit as he got a clear shot at her. His green eyes twinkling as the wild brown bush on his head fell downwards.

Elena laughed, “I’m sorry to have to tell you this Charming, but I am, in fact immune to smirking. It’s a skill of mine. I’m sure the girls will go crazy for it though.”

“I’m a Slytherin of course, you think a Ravenclaw can mix up this much snark and mischief? No, takes a snake such as myself to do that. I’d have to guess Gryffindor for you though, you certainly have the swagger for it, the brave and bold.” Elena winked at him, “Of course, I would’ve guessed Slytherin but I like to think I would already know every awesome kid in my own house.”

“While Robert is a fine tree, you haven’t even put up a hammock! How are you meant to stay comfy just sitting on tree bark?” Elena shuffled around so she was sitting with her legs dangling over the side, “How about you come and try the best tree? You’ll see what I mean as soon as you sit down. That is, if you’re not more comfortable hanging upside-down, although as much as it emphasises your excellent hair. You should probably not get too dizzy, the ground is a long way away. If you fall you may never be able to smirk again!”

The boy just kept on smirking as Elena replied. "Oooh, a snake! I heard you guys can be sneaky and clever." he swung back up and rose up on his feet, balancing on the branch. "Come over there and forget poor Robert?" he eyed the tree for a second. "Well, it's not like he'll miss a kid ruffling his leaves. I guess.." As he swung his weight from left ot right and left again he considered a jump. Tough even he was not that adventurous. He let himself drop branch per branch, like a natural ladder. Right 'til his feet found solid ground again.

"A hammock though? I'm supposed to fit in there as well?" he brought his hand up to shield his eyes from the light as he looked upwards. He looked around if no one was around to see him fail to climb the tree. The start was always the hardest he found. The first branches were a bit higher up than the rest of them. He let his hand run through his messy hair right before he jumped and pulled himself up. "Aaaalright, here I come." he groaned as he got up on the first step of the "ladder". After a short passing of time, the tall lad reached the blue haired girl.

"And by the way. My hair is perfectly fine the way it is." He smirked some more, though he secretly considering getting himself a hat to cover that mess up.

“Sneaky and clever, sounds like my house. I like to think that I’m less sneaky and more snarky, but I guess that’s up for others to decide. Maybe, I am sneaky, I prefer the term mischievous though. Makes me sound more fun.” Elena put the books on a branch she’d found dead and just sort of hanging there. She’d sanded it down flat to use as a shelf.

Elena watched as the kid climbed down and back over, she was half expecting him to just swing straight over to her tree and hurt himself, but he was a bit more sensible than that. He appeared up next to her in a puff of messy hair and smirking green eyes, “Isn’t that what I said? It’s good hair, be proud of it. In fact it’s so good, you’re allowed to borrow my hair dye. If you ever want blue hair that is, we could match.”

“Is smirking the only facial expression you can make Charming?” Elena raised an eyebrow and smiled at him, “Not that you’re bad at it, just wondering if it’s a curse or something, I haven’t seen you do anything else in all of the five minutes I’ve known you.”

"I think I'll pass on the hair dye for now." Though in his mind he was considering it. Yet he did not feel quite confident enough for such an extravagant thing yet. Besides, he still felt he needed to earn his place here in the magical castle. A knight needed to be tested. His worth measured by an honorbound desire to earn their seat at the table. Such was his fate still. "And nothing wrong with my smirks either." He grinned. "In fact, they are my most prized possession." He wiggled his nose a bit at that last comment. Not entirely true, but it felt nice saying it. A flare of the dramatics was always nice to add.

His gaze drifted off into the stretched horizon along the lake, with soft sunlight streaming through the treeline. Aye, it wasn't so bad here. Poor Robert would have to miss his old friend it seemed. Though admittedly, the old tree's branches where a bit thicker than this one. Considering Elena's hammock they would be strong though. But that had always been a trait of the younger. The same was with humans, he realised. Always funny where one could find humanity in nature's traits. He smiled at that, carelessly allowing a soft sigh escape his breath.

"Well, I was running Lowe, anyway." Elena laughed at the pun, "Ask me any time though, I personally think blue would look even better on you than that Gryffindor red you seem enamoured with."

Elena leaned back against a nearby branch and looked up, seeing the dark stormlight filtering its way through the leaves. They'd both have to leave soon, or else get stuck in the tree. The leaves were thick enough that they could stay under it without getting wet at all, one of the reasons her hammock was in this one instead of 'Robert'. It was cool that the other kid had named his tree, and it was nice that someone was willing to talk to her for this long, especially be able to actually banter. Her friends weren't quite as good at the whole back and forth as Hugh was, although Rorie was pretty good at it.

"Okay Charming, you're smirks are the best I've ever seen, but then again people don't tend to smirk. I'm more of a mad grin person myself." Elena displayed the expression herself and added a wink, "Too good for my punk rock trickster image, you've gotta respect the grin if you want to succeed."

He eyed his sweater as she made her remark. "I guess it comes with the house" He grinned a bit. He dusted it off a bit as he realised all that tree-climbing wasn't doing any good for this clothes. Blue was a nice color though. His favourite actually. Much like Elena's dyed hair had been. His eyes fell upon it once more before he made his statement. "I'm stil going to wait though. No time for me to go blue yet." he winked whilst shuffling himself into a better position on the the tree.

After that she seemed to muse a bit on where she was or something. that was Hugh's speculation at least. He gave her a bit of a worried look even though he was quite positive she still seemed alright to him. The weather was turning over badly though. The boy figured it might be a good time to jump out and head for a quiet place in the castle instead of staying about in either of the trees. Even though this one seemed to give a bit more cover than 'Robert' did.

With Elena snapping back to reality his head turned straight for attention. "Mad grin ey?" he gave her the same expression in return. "I'll respect it, no worries there." he winked back at her. He was quite sure they'd get along fine in here. She was something different than what he had already encountered.
