Going back to school after the weekend was not like any other Monday. It was all a bit surreal what had happened over the weekend. Simon had got his first kiss and Madi was no longer his best friend but his girlfriend. Naturally, the whole school seemed to know and wherever they went people seemed to look, point and whisper. The only one he had told so far was his friend Zach, however. Eventually, he would have to tell his Gryffindor friends also, if the rumor had not reached them already. He hoped not, because he wanted to be the one to break the news to them. That seemed more courteous, rather than them hearing it from a secondary source.

Simon was not used to this kind of attention. When he first attended Hogwarts, his ambition had been to do well in school and learn as much as possible, which usually meant that you would find his nose stuck in a book somewhere between classes. When he was not studying, he had been doing a lot of exploration around the castle and its mysterious grounds, ending up in a variety of strange encounters – some of them dangerous. But he had always been careful not to get caught, thus, avoiding unwanted attention (part from the occasional bruises that his classmates and fellow Ravenclaws had noticed and made remarks about).

Now, however, he was no longer just that tall, ambitious and ordinary Half-Blood boy in Ravenclaw. Now he was that unexpected romantic that was lucky enough to be with that pretty girl from Hufflepuff. Now he was a topic, someone to take notice of and talk about. At least, that was what he read from his surroundings and he was not entirely comfortable with that idea.

"Absolutely. I'm sure they would want to meet you too," he said when Madi asked him to get to meet his friends. (This was another reason to speed up his plan to tell Irina and Delilah about his new relationship status). "Well, I'd let you them all, but I guess Zach is going to be the first. Mainly because... he's right there." Simon nodded to the other side of the corridor. He waved at his friend with the silver aviator glasses. "Zach! Over here!"

When Zach approached them, Simon gave him a friendly smile. In a way, he felt proud and mature, being about to present his girlfriend to his best friend. Yet, it was all a bit new and strange to him. After all, the three of them attended the same school and had seen each other in the corridors for over a year; sometimes Simon had said goodbye to Madi to join Zach on their way back to the common room and vice versa. Here they were, about to meet all three of them for the first time.

"Zach, I'd like you to meet Madi. Madi, this is Zach that I've told you so much about."

A boy with messy hair was seen walking in the corridor, still in his uniform with his satchel slung on his shoulder. Zach left the class later than his colleagues. He didn't understand something in his class and decided to stay for a while to ask the professor and study it again alone. After he felt that he somewhat could grasp the idea of the thing he was confused about, he left the class.

On his way, he opened his diary from his satchel to check his next schedule. "No class. Great," he said with a sigh of relief. Then he checked on his to-do list and found 'Brewing Bruise Removal Paste'. He had bought the ingredients in Apothecary Shop on Diagon Alley. Zach planned to brew the potion because... why not? He is muggle-born and wouldn't have any chance to do magical things at home so he decided to maximize his opportunity to do magical things when he is back to school. "Uhuh... Let's take the ingredients from the dorm and go to the Potions class. I hope professor is there," he mumbled to himself. He closed his diary and put it back inside the satchel.

"Zach! Over here!"

Zach looked for the source of the voice. It was Simon and... he was with someone. Zach was sure that she is Madison, Simon's girlfriend from Hufflepuff. Zach waved back and went to the two love birds. Simon introduced them. Zach then greeted Madison, "Hi, Madi. I heard about you from Simon and I saw you sometimes in school, but we didn't have a chance to talk." After that, he extended his hand and continued, "I guess this is our official meeting. Nice to meet you," he said while giving a soft smile to the girl. Zach was still a shy and awkward boy but his social skill developed bit by bit in a year. Maybe it was because he had to survive in this dangerous school alone without his mom. Yes. Dangerous. What a lucky boy.

Madi stood beside Simon as he waved Zach over. She took a deep breath, held Simon's hand and smiled at Zach "Pleasure to meet you too Zach, i'm surprised it's taken us a whole year to officially meet though. I have heard a lot about you from Simon too, though I hope he hasn't bored you by talking about me too much" Madi said with a smile, shaking Zach's hand.

I hope Zach doesn't think I'm strange or too shy... Madi thinks to herself, however as she stands beside Simon and feels him stroke her hand, she relaxes and the three of them start to chat. Madi listens a lot and then talks when asked a question by one of the boys, she was still feeling a bit nervous but at the same time she wasn't because she had Simon next to her.

Madi, since she was used to a lot of attention, wasn't too fussed about the attention she was getting with the fact that she and Simon were now dating. She knew that it was something new for Simon though and therefore always tried to hold his hand or give him kisses to help him stay calm and ignore the attention they were getting, she knew it would all eventually die down, then she and Simon could go back to just being a couple together, rather than front page news so to speak. Madi would rather be in the section were they used to post about all the hottest couples at balls or events, things she hoped she'd get to go to with Simon soon and once they were older.

"So Zach, what are your favourite subjects? Madi asked, trying to get to know Zach more since he is Simon's best friend. Being his girlfriend now, she felt like, by getting to know his friends, she'd also feel more comfortable hanging out with them if she and Simon hung out with friends as a group at some point.

Simon smiled as the two of them shook hands. It was like witnessing two different worlds collide since he knew about their sharp differences. Madi, for instance, loved flying and dreamed about applying for the Hufflepuff Quidditch team, whereas Zach had struggled tremendously with heights since year one (and basically anything that could be regarded 'dangerous', which of course there was an excessive amount of in their curriculum).

Somehow, though, Zach's presence was always comforting and calming. Ever since that day he aided him and even overcame his fear of heights to get Simon's wand down for him from a roof, Zach had been one of his most trustworthy and reliable friends. Zach was also a Muggleborn, whereas Madi was a Pureblood. There were things that he and Zach could talk about that Madi would not understand unless he explained it to her, simple references such as 'Netflix', which Madi thought was a spell when he had mentioned it once. Still, both Zach and Madi shared the same basic values, having their hearts in the right place, which made them totally compatible. He was sure they would get along, just as he did.

Simon put a hand on Zach's shoulder and turned towards Madi. "So, this is the guy that helped me survive the Ravenclaw Common Room last year. Without him, Hogwarts would not be the same." He looked at Zach and smiled, thinking about their countless nights in the common room, either studying, playing games or just contemplating about their experiences, but also talking more deeply about their fears and worries. Zach was very open with his feelings, something that Simon truly appreciated about him. He did not have friends like that in Edinburgh.

"So Zach, what are your favorite subjects? , asked Madi.

Simon put his hand down from his shoulder, awaiting his friend's answer.

Zach shook Madison's hand for a few seconds. He was curious about what Simon said to Madison about him. He just hoped that it would be some embarrassing thing because he tended to do something embarrassing (for him) because of his awkwardness in the wizarding world. Zach's first impression of her was that she was nice, just like Simon told to him. She's pretty and was a good match for Simon, like a prince and princess he read from the fairytale.

When Simon mentioned about Zach helped him survived in Ravenclaw Common Room, Zach couldn't help but blurt a little laugh. "No way. You would completely survive in this school even without me." The thing was, one who barely survived was Zach. Not to mention his fear of heights, he was lucky enough to pass his first year safely. Some of the classes were dreadful for him. His muggle logic barely managed to accept everything in this wizarding world in his first month in Hogwarts. "There's also Madi here. So there's no way you wouldn't survive," he teased the love birds.

"Favorite subjects?" He thought for some moments. "I love Charms. The classes are very fun. I like the way Professor Fresnel taught us, very exciting," he said. Zach could spend more time just reading about Charms books. He also managed to learn some upper-class spells autodidact. It might be caused by his redemption in Flying Class. He was doing poorly in Flying and barely passed the class. It's a good thing that he got Poor grade in the class because he always thought that he would get a Troll. "What about you? What class do you enjoy the most?" he asked both Simon and Madison. Zach remember that Simon was good around the plants. Maybe Madison was too. He wondered if the two have a common interest in Herbology.

Madi blushed and giggled as Zach teased her and Simon before adding "I'd say Simon and I helped each other survive our first year, but i'd say you also helped him a great deal Zach" she said, as Zach, Simon and herself kept talking in the corridors.

"Charms is cool, it's not my best subject but it's not my worst either" Madi says with a smile. Madi thought for a bit as Zach put the question back to her before responding "I'd say both Herbology and Flying. Herbology is just so cool and different to anything I've learnt before, then with flying, well my dad used to play for the England Quidditch Team so flying is kind of in my blood" Madi said, feeling her cheeks turn pink.

Madi could see how well Simon and Zach got along and she smiled. It was so nice to see that Simon had a best friend like Zach, she felt as though the two of them balanced each other out well, just like she and Simon balanced each other out well too. "So Zach, if Charms is your favourite class, do you have a least favourite?" Madi asked, wanting to get to know more about her boyfriends best friend, so that if the three of them hung out in the future, they'd have stuff to talk about.

"True," said Simon and nodded to Zach while looking at Madi. "Told you he was being modest."

The evenings in the common room would have been far more boring if it had not been for Zach. Simon always enjoyed their conversations and after-school activities. And when they were studying together, Zach's lack of prior experience being a Muggleborn naturally resulted in a hardworking attitude where Zach had achieved good grades (mostly to his own surprise, Simon thought). In Simon's view, Zach always read the chapters carefully whereas Purebloods might have skimmed through the parts they thought they knew already. And at times where Zach was uncertain about something, Simon had the great opportunity to try and explain things to him, which only enhanced Simon's understanding as well. 'There's no better way to learn than to teach', as his mother used to say.

"Yeah, she's really good on the broom," Simon told Zach when Madi talked about her interest in flying. "I mean really good. She moves through the air like a barn swallow or something. And she's good with plants too."

Simon's mind instantly wandered back to Friday afternoon, where Madi had kissed him in the Greenhouses. Yes, good with plants, and good at kissing, he thought to himself. It was like everything became silent in his head for a moment before he returned to the conversation almost like when you are coming back to the surface after having dived in deep water. Apparently, Madi had asked Zach another question, but Simon had no idea what it was. He blinked rapidly a couple of times and tried to look as if he had been paying attention the whole time.

Zach's guess was right about Herbology. But he was surprised at Madison's answer that she liked Flying. She was completely different from him. Also, the fact that her father used to play in England Quidditch Team? "That's awesome!" Zach responded to her answer. "So you must be talented in Flying then." How fun. She wouldn't have to be scared when flying on a not-so-safe piece of stick. Then Simon said about Madison's flying skill. "That's... impressive. Really impressive," Zach said with gleamed eyes. "You must try applying to Hufflepuff's broom racing or quidditch team." It would be more fun if Zach could watch the sports where he could support someone he knew.

"Uh... least favorite...." he took a longer time to think because he was unsure whether it was right for him to say it. "It's not that I don't like Flying Class. I like the class but I hate flying on a broom. I more enjoyed the class when it was about broom care," Zach awkwardly answered. Zach still couldn't entrust himself to a broomstick even though he had been doing the class for a year. Flying wasn't for Zach.

"So, what are you two doing here?" Zach asked while looking at both of the love birds.

"Hehe I guess you could say that and yeah, having a dad who played Quidditch professionally meant being around brooms and quidditch balls from a young age, though my older brother James, who's in Ravenclaw like you and Simon, loves books more than brooms" Madi said with a giggle. She smiled stroked Simon's hand in case he was daydreaming and gave him a kiss on the cheek to bring him back into the conversation.

As the three kept talking, Madi suddenly got a bit shy, hiding blush ridden face into Simon's uniform as he talked about how she looked when she flew on a broom, before looking back at Zach "Thanks Zach and yeah I've applied for the Hufflepuff Quidditch team actually, as a chaser, like my dad was when he studied here at Hogwarts" Madi said with a smile.

Madi listened and smiled "No need to be unsure Zach, everyone has their own likes and dislikes, it's part of what makes us who we are. Broom care is really fun though and if you want, I could give you some tips to help boost your confidence around a broom if you're up for it. My dad once told me that brooms can sense the emotion of person stepping up to the broom, but if flying isn't your thing then don't stress, but i hope it won't stop you coming to watch Quidditch games" Madi said with a smile.

As Zach asked her and Simon what they were doing in the corridor, "Well umm... we're just spending time together since lessons are over for the day. We don't have any classes together so we try and spend as much time together in between and after them as we can. With all that happened over the weekend, we just can't be away from each other too long" Madi said with a smile, feeling a blush hit her cheeks again. With the events of the weekend still fresh on both her mind and Simons, Madi moved so that she was in front of Simon as she felt his arms move so that they were wrapped around her chest as they stood there and Madi continued to get to know Zach.
