A Very Dangerous Topic

Jay had gone up to the owlery to owl their Guardian about how the school year was so far, but of course they weren’t going to mention the fighting, or what happened with their arm, or the detention. There wasn’t actually that much to mention if you took away those topics. Jay looked out of one of the holes— or well, windows. It was quite windy but Jay liked it. They were literally in a castle tower like in the movies. Jay then saw one very familiar owl. It was a old barn owl with a few scars on it.
It’s Sir Victorias! Their heart started to beat really hard. Mr.Lancelot wasn’t carrying a letter through, instead it had a little message on his right leg. The paper was black, which meant... Oh no... It can’t be! Jay felt panic take over them. The black paper was used in very urgent messages, Jay would usually see their guardian writing black letters to other dangerous wizards but they themself never got one. Until now.
They were shaking as they gave the old owl a piece of a cookie to eat. What could have possibly happened? Jay brought their hands up to the owls right leg and carefully slid out the note.
I’m on the run. Burn this right after it’s read
Before they knew it, tears flooded their eyes. Jays knees seemed to become weak so Jay sat on the cold stone floor. It was happening but Jay couldn’t believe it. What did he do? What else?! Jay buried their face into their hands. Their guardian was on the run. And they can’t do anything about it. Nothing.

Mandy had run up the stairs of the Owlery, a letter for her parents clutched in her hand. She had been very excited to tell her parents all about her first month at Hogwarts, the friends she had made, the spells she had learned, and even that she had gotten an O for outstanding in flying. She was calling for her eagle owl, Bohica, and she came as soon as her name was called. The owl gracefully landed infront of her and held out her paw. Mandy attached the letter to her paw before gently stroking the owl’s head. “Have a safe journey. I will make sure to have some more treats ready for you when you come back.” She said. The owl happily bit into her fingers in a gentle way before flying off, disappearing in the horizon.
Mandy smiled and watched until the owl had completely vanished in the sky before making her way out again. That is until she heard a small sob coming from above her. Mandy wasn’t one for snooping but she couldn’t help but feel the need to find out where the sound came from. She carefully walked up the stairs of the Owlery, only to find a young Gryffindor crying silently in a corner. “Hello, I do not mean to interrupt or bother you, but are you okay?” She asked, slowly approaching the Gryffindor.

Jay crumpled up the black note in their hand, then looking up to see no other than a Ravenclaw. “Am I okay? Well I guess the crying didn’t give it away,” they said sarcastically standing up. So many people were lucky and had a good family unlike them. They had to suffer with the fact that they lived with dark wizards and witches. “Lucky you, you don’t have to deal with parents or guardians that that—“ and they burst into tears again. “N-never mind...”
They let Sir Victoria trick them into thinking he was fine, and that he wouldn’t be on the run again or do something bad. They hated him. Hate is a big word and they were using right now. He was the one to save their life but also destroy it. Perhaps if he just left them there in the filthy old orphanage they wouldn’t have gotten to this school.
Jay wiped their face with the sleeve of the robe, “S-sorry, I must be quite an inconvenience to you...” Jay said, leaning on the wall. They quickly stuffed the black note into their pocket. They felt anger, sadness, and many jumbled up emotions. They felt angry at Sir Victoria, they felt sad for themself, they felt regret and weak for crying infront of someone.

A girl, climbing silently up the stairs of the owlery, trying so hard not to be seen, heard a voice. She recognized it, yet did nothing. She needed a plan.
Her hazel eyes were dark with suspicion, and her light hair flowed behind her. She carried an air con content confidence, though it was far from what she actually felt. Her skin was a pale shade of alabaster. It had a soft glow to it, one she did not know she possessed. She felt dark emotions radiating off the higher area of the owlery, for she had what qualified as an almost-sixth sense. She could sense, and sometimes manipulate, thoughts and emotions. She climbed higher, noticing two voices talking.
Koko's eyes widened as she peeked around the corner. It wasn't eavesdropping or spying, to her, it was just collecting data. Data on who she should avoid or who she could talk to. She knew the girl in here, Mandy, and she knew the other person's name, as well of their being non-binary, having seen them on occasion. Jay, wasn't it?
For once, she wasn't laughing at another's expense. She actually felt bad for Jay, who had been crying. What's wrong with me? she thought, bitterly. She could sense something about dark magic wafting off of Jay, maybe that was it. Maybe it was empathy. Koko was used to it. She was almost going to ask if they were okay, but she stopped herself. Instead, she walked up to a tawny spotted owl and stroked its head before tying a letter to its leg, while still keeping an eye on Jay. She was sending a letter to her dead parents' lawyer, hoping that he might help her with her cause. Darkness filled her hazel gaze as she looked carefully downwards.
She finally turned after caringly sending the owl on its journey. "Hey," Koko said softly. "Are you okay?"

Jay was angry and sad, another girl had entered the owlery. “Yes I am okay, I am just a complete and utter weirdo crying for no reason in the owlery,” Jay said, why do people always ask that? If someone is obviously in pain and then they decide to ask ‘are you okay?’ To help, as if that would do anything. Was it just them or did people seem so stupid in life? Maybe that’s it. These two girls were stupid enough to not see that they weren’t okay. Their guardian was stupid enough to do something and go on the run. I am stupid for not running away when I was young. I’m stupid for even existing in this life!
Jay threw the black paper on the ground and walked away with anger thrown all over their face. They fainted to punch someone in the face so badly. They wanted to throw themself down the stairs. They wanted to do so many bad things at that moment to try to let go of the emotions that was building up inside of them. But they knew. They knew that doing all of those things would make things worse. Jay then started to run down the stairs, they wanted to be somewhere else.

An adrenaline rush ran through Koko's veins reddening her cheeks. I only made it worse... she thought, feeling very upset about it. She hardly even felt emotions anymore, so this was a big surprise. As the Gryffindor, Jay, had ran off, Koko had realized her mistake and wanted to tell them that they weren't stupid, that she was the stupid one for asking that, but they were already gone.
A small, crumpled black paper on the cold stone floor of the Owlery caught Koko's eyes. She bent down to pick it up, and immediately recognized the handwriting. Her adoptive mother had gotten a letter almost just like this, but a different message.
The letter read:
Koko started walking faster as she began to chase after Jay, not yet knowing what she was even doing. She felt very dumb for doing this. She knew she'd regret it soon. But at the moment she didn't care. If Rosalie got a letter home saying that her "daughter" had gotten in trouble, Koko would welcome it with open arms. She finally caught up with Jay, as she would have been on the track team had Rosalie let her. Holding out the black slip of paper, she said, “I read it.” Just those three words, said just right, darkly, mysteriously, cunningly... Rosalie would be proud.

Koko felt a dark smile creep over her thin red lips. Maybe she could get Rosalie Wreath in trouble after all, for associating with a dark wizard. Her slight enthusiam faded as she realized that she could get in trouble for that, and probably would, being one of those people known for their interest in dark magic in her community. Not that she'd ever hurt anyone, yet.I’m on the run. Burn this right after it’s read

“I read it.” The girls said behind them. Jay stopped immediately in their tracks, they took a few deep breaths to calm their tears. They could still feel themself shaking but now Jay was filled with a whole new emotion. They turned around.
The black note was in the girls hand. The black note that could ruin their life forever. The black note that scared Jay. The tears stopped, although there were still a few clinging onto the tip of their nose. “That’s mine,” Jay said. Golly, Jay could of probably ripped the girls guts out but they stood still. It was as if they were frozen, “I-it’s fr-fr-from a friend wh-who g-g-g-got detention today,” they stuttered. It was worth a try to lie but Jay could already sense that their face probably showed that it was a lie. Besides, they didn’t have friends. Only that Lily Gray girl. But that’s it. She probably didn’t even like Jay that much, and just like a coward Jay couldn’t help but to burst into more tears and ran away...
What a arsehole, wasn’t she taught to not take things that don’t belong to her? Jay thought in anger. Another terrible day... A day they would never forget, Sir Victoria... Please come back safely...

I wasn't supposed to say that, was I? she thought as she watched the green-haired Gryffindor in front of her. That... that had been really stupid. How had she expected them to react? The answer was, that as usual, Koko hadn't really thought about her dialogue before she said it. Not that it mattered anyways... Right?
Koko tore the note to pieces, a small act of thanks to the other student. Her somewhat sadistic nature had almost gotten the better of her, and she could thank the Gryffindor for not letting it. Finally, feeling her face redden and tears prick her eyes, she walked out the door. She didn't know why she was beginning to cry. It had just been a tiring day, she decided as she made her way to the Slytherin common room.
Koko heard them say. Sure it was. They sounded absolutely terrified, which made Koko light up inside with some horrid form of joy. No. She shouldn't be acting like this. She should just stop. And thankfully, the other person left before she could do worse. She could hear the sobs echoing down the corridor as they ran, and all she could think was, Holy shit. I just made someone cry... She didn't think they were cowardlike at all. In fact, she was grateful towards them. Jay had saved her a possible detention. Watching them leave, she started to feel sort of confused. Why would they leave so soon? She knew the answer, of course, but she was too stupid to leave it alone. She had been, at least. Now, she would just stand there awkwardly and watch them run.“I-it’s fr-fr-from a friend wh-who g-g-g-got detention today,”
