Reuben looked up to see an approaching owl. Was this the one that he had been expecting since so long? Had someone finally decided to be his pen pal? He untied the letter and opened it excitedly, and his grin grew wider and wider as he read it.
The writer of the letter seemed kind, and Reuben took out his quill, beginning to write back.

Uagadou School of Magic
Saturday, 25th February, 2023.

Dear Sherlock,

First of all, I would like to thank you for choosing me as your pen pal. I do not have words for the happiness that reading your letter gave me! I would love to be your pen pal too, and am really looking forward to it.

As for introductions, as you know, my name is Reuben. Although I was born in Spain, currently I live in Algeria, in Africa and am currently studying at Uagadou. It's really hot here, and I feel like I'm burning to death half the time, but I have become used to it and I guess it's my home now, as much as I miss Spain, but enough cribbing, I would really like to know more about your town and which school you study in. It's always good to meet people from far away, and although I haven't heard of Orange Walk Town, I have heard a lot about Mexico and I think the people there speak Spanish too.

We actually share a lot of interests! I love nature and animals too, and I don't think anyone in this world does not like cakes, those are absolutely awesome! I'm more into outdoor games, but I've started reading stories a bit, and I have to admit, they are not all that bad. I've also heard of bikes from some muggle friends I managed to talk to, but I never rode one because my parents obviously won't teach me.

Lastly, as you must have observed, I love talking, and once I start, it is really hard to stop, so if you really would like for me to write a little less, feel free to tell me that directly, and although I can't give any guarantees, I can surely try (let me warn you though, it doesn't usually work and at the most, you'll just find a lot of strikethroughs instead of less text, but it's worth a try nevertheless, maybe my hands and brain will cooperate with each other, who knows?).

Anyways, I guess I should shut up now. Thank you for writing to me and I look forward to many years of fun through these letters. Always good to have new friends.

Dear Sherlock,

I see that my blabbering did not scare you and you are still willing to talk. I'm glad to know that this is the case and am really looking forward to talking to you and maybe meeting you sometime later.

Ah, I did not know that the Spanish is different. It's one language - having two different languages in one language just is not something I've heard of. Can be really confusing, but I guess that's what the world is.

Sugar City is such a fun nickname! I was imagining your city as a calm orange vintage-y place before and now I'm imaging it decorated with candies XD. (yes I do know sugarcane does not mean candies, but you get my point.)

I do enjoy going to Uagadou, more for the people than for the actual place. Seeing the stars and learning more about them is fun too! I've heard of Castelobruxo, but never really been there or anything. Maybe someday, when I learn to use the floo network, you'll find a stranger who you've been sending letters to standing in your school, who knows?

I would love to, but I literally need to sneak out to even meet my non-pureblood friends, so going to a sleepover at one's house would be pretty hard, don't you think? But yeah, maybe someday I'll be able to try one out. Which reminds me - is your family pureblood too? Because if it is, my parents might know your parents. They seem to have a lot of pureblood friends...

I'm glad you don't mind long letters, because if you did, you would have had to deal with messy striked-through letters instead, which in my opinion, is even worse, because sometimes those are so confusing you even miss the non-striked-through stuff.
