The Train Ride

Allen awoke with a mix of nervousness and excitement coursing through him. The day had finally arrived for his departure to Hogwarts. As he bid farewell to his parents, exchanging heartfelt hugs and goodbyes, a bittersweet emotion washed over him. Deep down, the young boy harbored little hope that he would be fine in an unfamiliar environment all by himself.
His snobbish sister had already vanished, presumably enjoying the company of her own friends. Not wanting to disturb her, Allen ventured off in search of an unoccupied compartment.
Soon enough, he stumbled upon one that lacked the clamor and chatter unlike the other ones. Assuming it was empty, he cautiously opened the door. To his surprise, he saw a girl sitting alone. A sense of embarrassment flooded over him for not knocking first.
Allen pondered whether the girl desired solitude and if his presence might be an inconvenience to her. Alternatively, he considered the possibility that she might be feeling lonely and in need of companionship. Regardless, he concluded that asking would be the appropriate course of action. Attempting to muster his courage, he spoke with a noticeable timidity "Um, hi, sorry..." He then pointed towards the seat across from her and inquired, "...is this seat taken?"

Mellani was just here because to state it plainly, she did not have a choice. She had been forced by her family to go as it would be "safer" and better for her at Hogwarts, and she would probably talk more there and get over her grief if it was far away from where it took place. She had to give it to them, it was quite a lie, but grief was grief and changing your locality wouldn't help you get over that grief.
So here she was, climbing up on this train, even though every single muscle in her body just wanted to go back out of that wall that had forever changed her life and run, and wish there was a way to go back in time and change everything, but she had to face the harsh reality. There wasn't, and there never would be. She couldn't change her birth somehow and make herself not have magic. It just wasn't possible.
She walked into the train and found one of the empty compartments. She liked sitting alone, so she got into the compartment, hoping against hope that none of those 'you should talk more and be more social instead of being alone' people would enter. That was when she heard the door open. She sighed. So much for hoping she would get to be alone.
Mellani looked up to see a boy who looked... was he embarrassed? As he spoke with timidity, Mellani found her heart reaching out to him. He apologized for entering and asked her if the seat was taken. Well, at least he wasn't the kind of person she dreaded, and he seemed genuinely sorry for not knocking. "Nope, feel free to occupy it.", she said with a small, kind smile.
