@Simon Kincaid as Miles
Haley was still on a high from her vacation in Brazil. Well the country was really beautiful, but the reason for her condition was not the country, but a very special boy. The thought of not being able to see him for the next few months hurt but the feelings of happiness were still too present for her to be sad. So she played one of her father's records on her record player and danced around her room as she cleaned it up. She stowed the cleaned out trunk, knowing that she would fill it again in a few days before she would travel again on the Hogwarts Express to her second home on Saturday.

But before she would leave London again, she would spend the time with a good friend. None other than Miles Thatcher would be coming to visit her today for the next few days and she couldn't wait to welcome him to the Rose home. Haley's parents would have been happy to have a few quiet days after Brazil but with a little batting of the eyelashes, a pout and tales of what Miles Christmas and New Year's must have been like because of his parents, she had just talked them into it. Haley had her big heart from her parents, which is why it wasn't hard to really have to convince them.

The whole house smelled of her mother's freshly baked apple pie. "Mhhh, that smells so good!" the red-haired girl exclaimed through the house as she skipped down the stairs. She sauntered into the kitchen to join her mother and her eyes immediately encompassed the bowl of dough. She unobtrusively tried to take it, but as soon as Haley licked her finger, her mother looked at her with a raised eyebrow. "I don't want to hear about tummy troubles later." She admonished her daughter, who turned away with a roll of her eyes and continued happily licking out the bowl of dough. Just as Haley walked through the doorway into the living room, the doorbell rang.

She hadn't worried about Miles' arrival. She knew there would be no trouble. Maybe his parents didn't care where he hung out but they had money. She wouldn't be surprised if he had been dropped off by a driver in front of the large estate. Joyfully she slithered down the long hallway on her socks. With alacrity she swung open the door and grinned broadly, still holding the bowl. There stood the tall boy with the dark hair. "MILES!" she greeted him, beaming, and took him in a tight hug. "It's so good to see you! Come on in!" She waited for him to come through the door with his suitcase. "We can take it to your room later." Her eyes wandered to the suitcase before she looked at him again with bright eyes. "Cake batter?" Haley held the bowl out to him as she licked the batter off her fingers again, grinning with pleasure.

"If you wait a few minutes, you can get the cake batter in ready-to-eat form, too." Joked Haley's father, who had just come around the corner. The tall man had the same ginger hair and freckles as Haley. He held out his hand to Miles and greeted him. "Miles, right? I'm David, it's nice to meet you."

"OMG you have to meet Sky!" escaped Haley excitedly. She had recently become the proud companion of a puppy she had rescued from an animal shelter in Brazil. "Come with me!" she urged Miles and grabbed his hand. She pulled him with her down the long hallway to beyond the patio door, where they went into the garden. Winter was still in London, but the patch of gray that raged through the garden was immediately apparent. Haley opened the door and strode out into the cold. She whistled once loudly, "Sky!" she called afterwards and immediately the gray blur made its way to her. "Assento!" (Sit) she spoke and already the little puppy took a seat in front of her, tail wagging.

Introductions with the family of @Haley Rose

Miles packed light, only the one suitcase as it was enchanted and could fit everything he absolutely needed and more into it. It wasn't just what he was bringing on this trip, but what he would be bringing back to Ilvermorny with him when he was done visiting. As Haley would leave off for Hogwarts, he too would be heading back to school from Winter Break.

When the door opened, he half expected a house elf to answer - not his redheaded friend. It was a pleasant surprise, and one that quickly brought a smile across his lips. "If it isn't Haley Rose herself," he said as she hugged him and he joined, enveloping her into an embrace. Miles closed his eyes for a moment, taking in the warm feeling. Hugs were nice and were sadly too far and few between.

She asked if he wanted cake batter and he just raised an eyebrow to her curiously. Cake batter? He never really baked before or had seen someone bake without magic to really know of a cake's beginning in liquid form but could gather as much as to what she was talking about. Still, a cake was supposed to be baked, was it not, so the idea seemed rather crazy in his mind. She took a bit and while he wasn't brave enough to try, he did bring his index finger into the mixture and then tapped her nose playfully just as he heard the voice of Haley's father.

"Much obliged of your offer to have me, Mr. Rose. Thank you," he said and accepted the man's handshake. How fascinating it was that not only was David Rose physically around the house where one could see them, but also taking the time to introduce himself to one of his daughter's friends. It would certainly be a rarity for Aldrich Thatcher.

Her father wasn't the only family member he'd be introduced to, as she quickly grabbed his hand and pulled him along to soon meet the newest and most active member of the Rose family. Miles watched as the dog frolliced happily up to her, but then obediently sat upon command. "You've got him trained better than a Peruvian Vipertooth."

Miles didn't ask permission ahead of time because he knew Haley wanted to meet her pup and she was a friend, but he did take the precautionary steps when meeting an animal for the first time. He leaned down slowly and stepped to the side as he did so, that way he wasn't directly in front of the dog. He let Sky sniff at his hand first before approaching the top of his head and slowly patted it and the dog's tail wagged even faster.

"Your letters suggest you had the most wonderful time in Brazil," he said and looked up to Haley, smiling. He was happy for his friend.

It was nice to be able to hold Miles in her arms again, it was as if she was only now really realizing how much she had missed her American friend. She stayed in the embrace for a moment, taking in his warm scent and looking up at him with a smile. The smile only grew as she noticed his gaze. These wizards, magic was perfectly normal to them but as soon as you offered them pie dough they thought you were crazy. She rolled her eyes and giggled. She tried to get the dough off her nose with her tongue, to no avail. Eventually she wiped her nose with her index finger and briefly considered doing it to Miles. She glared dangerously at him before making a quick motion but in the end she was licking her finger off.

After the brief introductions were over and the two found themselves in the garden, Haley looked proudly at Sky. "I wish that were true." She laughed and petted Sky, who wagged his tail happily in response. "He definitely knows some basics, but he still has to learn the English language, and we have a long way to go with dog training otherwise, too." Haley shrugged, he was a puppy and eventually that was normal. "Want a go?" after Sky happily let Miles pet him, she held out a dog toy for him to throw, "But don't expect him to give it back to you willingly."

Haley waited for Miles to throw the toy, as soon as he did, Sky would take off joyfully and run wildly around the yard having fun with the toy.

"Yes, Brazil was wonderful." Haley smiled at the memory. "I got to meet Ronnie's family, go on great trips, and the beaches there are really beautiful. Aaand that's where I met Sky, fell in love instantly and now he's part of our family." Haley looked at her still small dog with a smile. She really loved him, especially considering she had saved his life. "Have you met Medusa yet?" She wasn't sure if Miles knew about her. "Merlin, you must feel like you're in a zoo. But I have a snake, too." She shrugged uncertainly, she loved animals. Be they magical or not.

"But enough about me, shall I show you my room and you tell me about your vacation?" While Sky continued to play in the garden, Haley led Miles through the big house, forward to the stairs at the entrance and up to the second floor. They went into Haley's room and she pointed to her bed. "Make yourself at home." She didn't wait for Miles to sit down and plopped down on her bed. "Come on." She patted the bed beside her, propped her chin on her hands and looked at him demanding. "Tell me about the great life of Miles Thatcher."

Catching up with @Haley Rose

"I'm quite used to a lot of animals," he said in her response to feeling like a zoo. Miles followed her through the house, up to her room and looked around. It contained some things that were unknown to him but then again, his house was as pureblooded wizard as one could get.

Haley welcomed him to sit and when he didn't do so immediately, she came right onto the bed and patted the space next to her before placing her chin in her hands and watched him. Miles felt a pause momentarily as he just watched her back, his eyes directly into hers. It was a look that lasted a little too long and would have most likely lasted longer if it weren't for Sky making her way into her room as well and jumping up on the bed beside her, causing him to break the gaze.

"Someone's quite fond of you,"
he said softly and came and sat down.

"As for my Summer, not much to tell. There was some traveling with my parents and the quidditch victory for Ilvermorny at Summer Camp, but other than that......." he shrugged. "Not much new happens in the life of Miles Thatcher." No new leads on a next Hexwizard task, no new news when it came to dealing with his parents, no new potential girlfriends. It was pretty lack-luster and he wished he had something more interesting to say.

"Oh Sky, I told you not on the bed." Laughed Haley as the two were interrupted by her dog. But she also couldn't help but take the little one into her arms and cuddle him. "Well, I guess I'm not strict enough." Admitted Haley, shrugging her shoulders as she continued to cuddle Sky and looked apologetically at Miles. "Oh yes. And I'm fond of Sky." She took the puppy's little face between her hands and looked into his blue ones. "Am I right? Yes. Because I love you sooo much!" Haley placed a short kiss on the tip of the nose before turning her attention back to Miles.

"Okay now tell me about you." Now it was Miles nose she tapped with her index finger. "Don't be so modest Miles Thatcher." Haley admonished her friend before setting Sky on the floor and he stormed out of the room again. "First, travel. Question: where did you travel everywhere?" Haley counted off the points on her hand, "Second Quidditch. Well I'm happy for you, though of course I'm all for Hogwarts." Haley winked at him, she wasn't attending this year's Summer Camp and had no idea what was going on. She didn't even know if Ilvermorny played Hogwarts. "Third." Continued the red-haired one, "There's more going on in that pretty little head than he'd like to reveal." She paused for a moment and raised an eyebrow, "But you're welcome for that."

Haley sat down on her knees directly across from Miles. "Okay, what do you think about a little distraction? We could watch a horror movie after dinner, what do you think? A really good or maybe bad Muggle classic. Since you don't know a single one, there will be plenty to choose from and I'm sure I can quietly hijack a DVD from my dad's office." Haley knew it wouldn't be difficult. "I'd just have to prepare something." She thought for a moment before jumping up. "Just wait here."

Without a chance to ask questions, she left Miles back in her room and disappeared into the hallway. A few minutes later she returned with a large white roll tucked under her arms. She placed it in front of her bed, pushed her chair in front of the bed and stood on the chair. "Can you hand me the roll?" She waited for Miles to do so and hung the roll on hooks attached to the ceiling. The screen rolled up downward and Haley jumped from the chair "Perfect, all that's missing is the projector." With quick steps the redhead had disappeared from the room again and came back with a small square projector, she placed it on one of the wall shelves above her bed. "There, all set."

Before Haley could have somehow explained to Miles what these muggle things were all about, she waved it off and told him it would be easier if she just showed him later. "Miles! Haley! Food!" Surprised, Haley looked at her watch. "Oh wow, so late already." Haley led Miles down the stairs to the big table, the aroma had already hit her nose in the hallway. "Mmm. Homemade bolognese, what could be better." Haley scooped a large portion onto her plate before grating not too little parmesan onto the sauce. "Bon appetit!" everyone at the table wished each other, and while Haley more than enjoyed the bolognese, she talked about the movie night they had planned before Haley's dad turned the topic to Miles. "So Miles, Haley told us your parents are famous zoologist and writers. Is that right? That must certainly be exciting.

Talking with @Haley Rose

"Okay, I'll brag about one of my travels," he said, holding up one finger as she had done and thought about the time he spent with his parents, well, not WITH his parents as in right next to them because let's be truthful, they were busy, but he was at least physically with them when they went from one place to another before off and absorbing themselves into their work when they were there.

"I did get to see a lot of Dracaena cinnabari or uh, Dragon Blood Trees," he perked up. "They've got nothing to do with dragons and nothing to do with actual blood," first and foremost. "They resemble the shape of a mushroom when you look at them from below. I saw them when we went to Yemen and visited this little island called Socotra. The sap from the tree is as red as blood and the tree is only found there. Only there! One of the rarest in the world. The tallest was probably 30 feet tall and they can live for over 600 years. 600 years. Granted, they've got nothing on Redwoods when it comes to that, but it's still pretty impressive."

"It's threatened though sadly because the extract is rich in tannis which have anti-inflammatory effects on the skin and helps heal wounds and improve the appearance of scars."

"Luckily, the island of Socotra is working to conserve them despite industrial and tourism development. They're working on ensuring that no harm comes to those on the island and that saplings are regularly watered, leading to hopes that a new generation of trees may be established."

Miles realized now that he had gone on for several minutes about a tree and silenced himself. "My parents were under the understanding that there was a rare variety of creatures perhaps related to the Graphorn there and while normally found in Europe, thought perhaps they could be on this mountainous terrain of Yemen." Miles shrugged. That was a pretty far stretch of the globe to think a species had migrated that far, as well as evolved into their own variety. It turned out, some wizard there on Socotra had a Graphorn farm and had been turned into the authorities as owning a Class XXXX beast was forbidden. Graphorns were dangerous and aggressive beats.

"Second, quidditch will always be the superior sport so I don't really know how I can say much more on the matter because I know you agree,"
she played as well, after all. Chaser. Maybe not as good as a beater, but definitely important. Some gave all the credit to the seekers but that was just part of the game.

Haley then began using terms he didn't know. He knew what a movie was, but had never seen one, but then she started talking about DVDs and projectors and he was as lost as lost could be. At least she seemed to know what she was doing as she got everything set up, but still what it was, he wasn't sure. They looked like various metal and plastic boxes around the size and shape of a brick.

Miles was taking a bite of the meal when Haley's dad began to talk to her. "Yea, they certainly get to new places and see new things. It certainly gets you out to see the world." And that wasn't a lie in the least. It's what he was most thankful for when it pertained to his parents' jobs.

"Finally!" Haley clapped her hands and for the rest of the minutes she listened intently to his words, grinning widely as her friend lost himself in his stories. She knew it wasn't easy with his parents, mostly for that reason she also wanted him to have the best time with her and her family. But she also knew that Miles was Miles. He would still make good use of the time and travel and from what he told her, he only confirmed that. Haley crossed her legs and placed her head in her hands as she looked at Miles with wide eyes.

As Miles continued to tell of trees, islands, Yemen and 600 years, she nodded here and there, agreeing with a soft "Mhmm" or whispering a soft "Oh Wow." Miles had finally gotten into the flow of talking and Haley was trying everything not to take him out of context again and it seemed like it was working. "Yup. Quidditch is the best." she agreed curtly and then laughed.

After Miles was done with his stories, Haley had everything ready for movie night, and they were enjoying dinner. Haley's parents also listened to Miles with interest. They talked about Brazil and Haley just managed to stop them from telling any embarrassing stories from Haley's childhood. "Okay, okay, that's enough!" Haley cleared the empty plates into the kitchen and tried to prevent any further contact between Haley's parents and Miles. The risk was too big that they would blurt out something embarrassing after all. Haley's parents couldn't help but laugh at that. "Miles if you need anything else just let me know." Added Haley's mother before Haley pushed him out of the room with the flat of her hands against his back. "He doesn't need anything and if he does he can ask me. Thank you and have a good evening." Even before Haley had pushed Miles all the way to the stairs, the words of Haley's father could be heard. "Oh that reminds me of another story, back when we-" "NO THANKS!" yelled Haley from the hallway, interrupting her father who just loved teasing his daughter too much. In response, her parents' laughter could be heard and Haley continued to push Miles up the stairs.

"I'm sorry, they just like to embarrass me." Explained Haley bluntly. "Wait here, I'll see what movies I can find." As quickly as Haley had taken Miles to her room, she was gone. Quietly, the redhead crept into her parents' study under the roof. She knelt in front of the huge DVD collection and tried to hurry. But if she was going to borrow a movie secretly, it would have to be one of the forbidden ones, and so she put movies like "The Neverending Story " directly aside and pulled a box with the inscription "A selection of classics - from great to bad" from the shelf. , "IT - No", "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - sounds too brutal, after all she didn't want to disturb Miles.", "Psycho" Haley looked at the title for a while, she couldn't assess it but decided to take the movie with her.

"I was successful. I hope you're not afraid of horror movies. This is supposed to be an old classic. We'll see what it can do." Haley put in the DVD, turned on the projector and pointed to her bed. "Go ahead and make yourself comfortable before I turn out the lights." Horror movies certainly needed a gloomy mood, too. She lowered the shades on the windows, turned off the lights, and started the movie. She climbed over Miles and lay down next to him in the bed. "To be honest, I have no idea if horror movies are for me. But I'm sure we'll find out tonight." For good measure, Haley had picked up a children's movie from earlier in the day. Just for good measure.

Haley pulled the covers over her, straightened her pillow and sat upright in her bed. "Okay let's go!"

Settling in for a movie with @Haley Rose

He didn't really know anything about horror or movies, let alone horror movies, but he figured it was like a recorded play that was intended to be scary. He had been to more operas with his parents than he would like to admit, and some of those got a little intense - or at least he figured they did. Sometimes it was hard to follow them since he didn't know the language that most of them were conducted in. If he was lucky, he was able to convince his parents that he'd stay in the inn or hotel while they went and he'd have some time away from them.

Miles sat on one side of her bed, leaving plenty of room for her to to sit beside him. It was crazy to him that a picture, moving images, were being projected before him. He knew muggles had this thing called technology and it seemed magical in itself - with lights that would come on indoors, and these communication devices they had, as well as things like this, but he hadn't been exposed to them before.

"I don't understand how the no-maj world has figured any of this out,"
he admitted. But he was glad that they had because now he was going to get to spend some time with a good friend due to this advance of theirs.

"Later you'll have to show me all of the other no-maj parts of your household." He had absolutely none back home and the same went for his grandmother's house. His grandmother was so old-school that she even had a house elf.

Haley laughed, muggle things were nothing special to her, she had grown up with them. But she also knew by now that not everyone in the magical world knew much about muggles and their inventions. "If you want me to show you all the muggle things in this house, you'll have to stay longer." Haley's father is a Muggle, so there were lots of things. There were the films, the projector, books with Muggle stories, his studies as a doctor and much more. But if Miles was really interested, she would give him a little insight into the Muggle world.

As the movie played, Haley occasionally cringed or looked away in disgust and pulled the blanket over her chin, the evening passed very quietly between the two of them. The movie managed to build up suspense even though she didn't know if horror movies would become her favorite. Probably not. By now, the sky outside was black, the moon minimally illuminating Haley's face through the window. The room was dark except for the rays of light and the movie. Haley grinned into the darkness and glanced out of the corner of her eye at Miles, who was focused on the movie. Out of nowhere, she snapped sideways to him, her hands on his shoulder and shouted "BOOH!" before laughing out loud.

The movie soon ended and Haley showed Miles to the bathroom where they could brush her teeth and then get ready for bed. "So if you want you can stay in one of our guestrooms." Haley showed Miles the options, "Or you can stay in my room." Haley shrugged her shoulders. No matter what he decided, it would be okay with her. But she already suspected he would take his own room. While it was normal for Haley and her muggle friends to share rooms and beds at sleepovers, she'd learned over the past few years that it wasn't normal for everyone. Depending on what Miles decided, she would lead him in the room, give him anything else he needed and wish him a good night.

The next morning, the house was empty as Haley's parents were at work. After going to the bathroom, she slipped into the kitchen in her pyjamas and prepared breakfast. Haley's father had baked fresh bread in the morning and it smelled delicious. She put the bread, toppings, jam, fruit, cereal and milk on the table before going back upstairs to get Miles for breakfast.
