Julia wrapped her white cardigan tighter around herself. Even though it was almost the end of winter, writing a letter at the top of the school in a room with a bunch of open windows was not her best idea. But she hadn't written to her family in a couple of weeks.
Like last time, she had written the letter, sealed it, walked to the Owlery and thought of more things to add. So now she was crouched on the floor, trying not to step in owl droppings or freeze to death with no one up here, her usually neat handwriting messy.
At least the sunrise was pretty.
Julia resealed the letter, and looked up at the owls above her, wrinkling her nose as she tried to pick the one that looked the fastest. It wasn't an urgent letter, rather that she was used to communicating quickly.
"I wish I still had my phone. Texting is so much faster," Julia said wistfully, before an owl flew down to her and stuck out its leg for the letter.
She attached the letter to the owl's foot, before sending it off and turning around to see a girl standing there. She was a Slytherin Julia noted- one she recognised from some of her classes. The girl looked quite shy to Julia- so at first she ignored her, packing up the ink and quills she'd left sprawled out. Then the girl spoke.

Mellani entered the owlery, wanting to send a letter back home. She pushed away the urge to go away and think of some other solution after seeing how unhygienic the owlery was. She walked with careful steps and attached her letter to a relatively clean owl.
Mellani seriously wished that electricity would work in the wizarding world. Like seriously, you could perform all kinds of magic, but you could just let a few electronic devices work and make sending messages easier for yourself? As Mellani was done tying the letter and sending the owl on its way, she heard another person speak.
"I wish I still had my phone. Texting is so much faster," Mellani tried to hold back her surprise at the fact that the girl had just managed to voice out what Mellani had been thinking. At first, Mellani only gave her a shy look, wondering if she should say something or not, but she couldn't help herself. "I know right! The people here can do all sorts of magic but can't make phones work", she said.
She wondered if she should have said anything, or if she had made a huge mistake by opening her mouth, but well, what was done was done. She could only hope that the other girl wouldn't judge her because of it.
