a little solitude never hurt anyone pv Jack Burnett Closed

Rhys gave a noncommittal shrug at Jack's question, taking their wand out and twirling it like a baton between their fingers.

"Oh, there's a number of different ways I could go about disappointing my father. He's already so thrilled that I cut my hair and act 'unladylike', so I have half a mind to continue my current trajectory down that path, since there's more potential to annoying his old-fashioned mind if I do. I could disappoint him with homework, but I intend to actually try when it comes to my academics. Not that it seems to matter to him. That is what he expects of us-- stellar grades and perfect scores. It's the Ravenclaw in him,
" Rhys rolled their eyes, sighing and sitting up a little in their seat. "But that's nothing new, really. He's always held high expectations for us, which makes it so easy to disappoint him." They explained, setting their wand down on the table before glancing back up to Jack. "But you probably don't want to hear about the family drama I have. We barely just met, and it's all so.." They shrugged. "Mundane. Typical stuff."

They didn't want to bore the older Slytherin with talk of their personal issues. It was unlike them to even discuss anything having to do with the inner workings of their family, much less with a Slytherin they'd just met only a few minutes prior. But there was something about Jack that made Rhys drop the guard they'd been keeping up ever since coming to Hogwarts. It had gotten quite tiresome to be constantly so on edge, and part of Rhys did agree with their mother in that isolating themself in this new environment wasn't the healthiest of options, and that it might do some good to at least make an acquaintance or two.
