History/Background Story: 

Cleo Cabello has shoulder length straight, brown hair, chocolate brown eyes and is tall for her age. She considers herself different from others around her because of her lack of interest in boys, makeup, clothes and gossip. Although just 11 years old, her classmates at school have noticed her individuality and she is neither popular nor ignored.
Cleo lives just outside Bournemouth. She loves the landscape and the seeming vastness of the ocean. The cliffs do not scare her and she sees beauty in how their pristine whiteness stands out against the other colours of the land. She is an outdoorsy person with a world inside her head that often mixes with the real world. She is claustrophobic, even sometimes when she spends too long in the bathroom. Her parents love her but she loves her mother (a witch) more than her father (a muggle). She doesn’t understand why he cannot see the world in the same way that she does. She dislikes that his moods rely on food and bad television, and that he so casually throws around stereotypes that he doesn’t realise are offensive. Her mother is a kind woman that understands her daughter more than anybody else in the world. She only has one child, Cleo, but has kept the fact that she is a witch from both her daughter and husband. Cleo’s mother loves the world of magic but considers the magical world dangerous and sometimes small minded, so has kept her family away from it. Cleo’s love of the natural world comes from her mother but her defiance and belief in what is right are truly her own.

Cleo attended a small school in the centre of Bournemouth. She had friends there but none very close. She believes that things happen for a reason but she is not religious. She doesn’t realise she has any magic but the most memorable moment when she accidentally used her magic was when she caused the fire alarm to go off and the sprinklers to come on when she was in her 4th year of primary school. The class had gotten to paint for a treat that day but she unknowingly ruined all the paintings because of her anger about being the centre of gossip. Cleo has a temper and rarely means the things she says when she’s angry. Her favourite colour is green and she loves music, especially piano.

Cleo hadn’t realised she had any magic before the day her acceptance letter to hogwarts was delivered. She had been out by herself at the beach (a new slice of freedom that she had been thrilled about) and returned to find her mother, Hallis Blackburn, sitting on the two steps up to their porch. Hallis was staring down at the letter that had arrived over ten minutes ago, seemingly unaware of the tawny owl next to her. As Cleo approached she saw the tightness in her mother’s face and thought there might be a problem at her work, a medical laboratory. Cleo marvelled at the owl perched next to her mother on the porch and approached slowly, afraid of frightening it. Her mother had looked up and beckoned to her, gently moving the owl that Cleo could sit. There, she told her daughter her true identity as a witch and that Cleo had been accepted into Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Cleo’s father, Henry Cabello, had left minutes before, after Hallis had finally told him the truth about her past.

Cleo was born on the 11th of March in London, England. She lived in Bournemouth for her whole life, except for two months in London after she was born. Growing up, she always loved the ocean and the landscape of her home which she used as an escape (even just her garden) when she had troubled emotions or suffered from her claustrophobia. Her parents treated her kindly, but she was not spoilt, she had a steady routine and only argued slightly more as she got older. Her mother recognised signs of magic when Cleo was growing up, the first being for her to place a chick, without touching it, back in its nest in a tree.
