A Quiet Song
REID tugged his thumb as he sat and listened to both Alicia and Alexx. A short laugh bubbled up from him as Alexx flexed, amused at her antics. It wouldn't surprise him to know that she had muscles, the instrument indeed was heavy. He was sure he could carry it, but perhaps not to the duration that Alexx could. It was quite a feat in his book. As Alexx talked, he'd glance between her and Alicia's background noise, it was an interesting dynamic to listen to the two.
IN the back of his mind, he often wondered why Alicia preferred not to talk to this extent. It wasn't extreme, but neither was it common for him to talk to someone who didn't seem to want to talk at all. Then there was Alexx, who by observance seemed like someone who lit up like a bonfire at the conversation of music. It was useful to know these things, Reid was slowly learning how to gauge people and how to talk to some who might want to barely do so themselves.
WHILE his interest in music was rudimentary at best, he liked to listen to the people who actually took part in it. Reid owned music on his phone and back in Derby, but since he couldn't use electronics at Hogwarts, he didn't have it to share with anyone. He was a passive listener, tame in his opinions of what was good music and what was bad. But at least there was some insight on the people who took the time to play it. Back in Derby, he didn't meet kids who liked to play music.
REID wouldn't admit they were uncultured, but he was barely surrounded by the ones who would take the time to learn an instrument. As a result, Reid hung onto the words that both Alexx and Alicia were saying. He'd serenely nod at points of Alexx's talk and Alicia's playing, smiling at the slightest change in tone when she seemed excited. It seemed like a high point for her, even encouraging the both of them. Reid saw Alicia write, causing him to break his posture and scooting over to read what she wrote.
"THAT'S true, I think it's more or less ..." He scooted over a little more. "I think it's more or less, being unsure of what instrument I really might like. Guitar is nice, but I kind of want to know if there might be something else I'd like." He decided not to breach Alexx's personal space and instead stay where he was now. The palms of his hand laid flat against the grass and he continued on. "Maybe drums? I always liked watching people play the drum kits." Reid explained, making a comedic effort to demonstrate him holding a drumstick using his wand.
"Trouble usually finds me."

A Quiet Song

Nodding, Alexx listened on to what Reid had to say, also taking in what Alicia had written. It was true that she didn't speak much, but then again, neither did Alexx until she was comfortable. Reid was a lucky exception, to which she was still trying to figure out why. There wasn't any particular reason as to why he should be considered greater than anyone else in the sense that he was able to get her to speak, but Alexx was grateful for finding someone to listen. And perhaps that's what it was. People didn't tend to listen, but Reid was all ears, and more-or-less, engaging.
She turned to Alicia and pondered the thought. "Well, I'm in the Enchanted Souls band, which is a student-run club. You don't need to be able to sing. Just play your heart out. Your skill level doesn't matter. We all start somewhere." She encouraged, smiling at her. It was a flaw most up-and-coming musicians made. They forgot that no one starts as Mozart or Beethoven or Tchaikovsky or Handel. Every great musician started somewhere. She found that a lot of young musicians were quick to throw the towel in early and quit because they were too intimidated. But even Alexx would admit that she started out playing Hot Cross Buns and Symphony No. 9. She worked her way into playing pieces like Mars or La Mer. No one was going to be able to play Holst or Debussy on their first try.
Then turning to Reid, she pursed her lips in thought. "Percussion is amazing. I wouldn't have the patience to learn it. But the guitar is also fascinating. As I stated, I personally just stick to winds. But it's different in my case, I suppose. I grew up in a theatre, both viewing the stage and what's underneath, so I was able to see which instruments I found interesting." She shrugged, her gaze drifting to the side. She was fortunate for a musician. Many musicians weren't able to experience every instrument before finding which one they favored. Alexx, however, saw her share of orchestras and bands. She met the performers and was able to see every horn up close (she also was able to do the same for the percussion and strings, but who cares? Winds are cool.) And so she had decided where her preferences were.
But none of that meant she thought any instrument was lesser than (except the bass clarinet, of course). She really did hope that Reid learned guitar. Being a musician is supposed to make you more intelligent. Not that she thought Reid needed to be any more intelligent, but perhaps he could use it just a tad. And she also hoped that Alicia found a music group to play with. It would be unfair if she weren't able to experience the joys that came with playing with others. Alexx even dared to think that maybe it would get her to speak if she were comfortable with it maybe. It seemed like a good idea for both of them. There were so many benefits to learning.

chill babe. we're all bad in someone's story.

A Quiet Song
As Reid spoke about being interested in the guitar, she added a little flare to her melody, she hoped I didn’t seem like so was forcing anything on him she just wanted to show how the guitar was a fun instrument. But if Reid wanted to play music his choice of instrument was entirely his own choice, it was like choosing ones first pet in a way. She also considered Alexx’s suggestion about joining music club and she was tempted to take her up on the offer, but she still didn’t think she would be good enough for a club. From the sounds of it Alexx was already a very accomplished musicians, so while Alicia felt pretty okay as an amateur she wasn’t sure of herself.
She began to write in her notebook again and handed it to Alexx again when she was done
“If you really think im good enough then I can try and see if the club wants me at all, but I really don’t do well with too many people around. But its good there are others who like music here, its reassuring.”
after handing off the notebook she continued to pluck away at the strings.
