A girl of average height with brown hair in a plait down her back, pretty blue eyes, and a skin tone that was a variation of white was pacing one of the many halls of Hogwarts. For what was probably the first time in her life, Ruby, the girl, was completely lost. This had never happened to her before, and she cursed herself silently for letting this happen. Even though she was lost, she still stood up straight out of habit, and the impression that she gave off was one of intelligence, determination, and something else, something strong, such as passion, power, or ambition. She also was surrounded by an air of confidence – not haughtiness or being full of herself, but confidence nevertheless.
It was a nice day and classes had ended, so pretty much everyone was outside. Ruby loved the outdoors and spent much of her free time out there, but today she had decided to get to know the interior of the school a bit better, wandering to the places she didn't know. She didn't think it would be a problem, after all, she had a brilliant sense of direction and memory, but she had let her feet carry her today while her mind was distant and far away from here. That was a big mistake, and she didn't even think to bring someone with her. The moving staircases probably hadn't helped either, and they were a real source of problems for someone who didn't know where they were going. When Ruby had finally stopped and come to her senses, she had realized how stupid she had been to let herself zone out at a time like this, but really, she had been thinking about some important things that she needed to deal with. She needed the time to lose herself with the background soundtrack of her shoes tapping on the floor as she walked.
As great as it had been for her to ponder the problems in her life, here she had no vantage points, nothing she recognized, and there were no people in sight. She was definitely having a problem, especially if no one came through here…
Think fast, Ruby, she told herself. Or rather, don't. You have time as long as you can come up with something. She paced a section of the corridor, thinking. What to do, what to do…

Ellara turned out of a nearby room, calling out, "Goodbye!" to the friends she'd just made in a random club meeting. Though it was already a few months into the school year, Ellara was still trying to figure out where she belonged. Was it with the drama kids? One of those card clubs? When dueling opened, would she take to that or Quidditch? The young Hufflepuff girl wasn't sure where fate would place her, but until she was certain of her place in society, she figured why not drift around through it all? It would be a pity if she didn't take her special opportunity of being an actual witch and make something out of it!
Humming a soft tune, Ellara Butler slung her messenger bag - a useful tool, for someone who had too many books to carry and not enough hands - over her shoulder and set off down the corridor, pondering her plans for the rest of the day. The weather was nice enough, even if the air was chilled. She'd already had drama earlier, so that wasn't too much of an option. Hm, what to do, what to do... Perhaps the Quidditch pitch? Flying had been one of her favorite prospects of the Wizarding World, yet she'd yet to actually mount a broom herself!
Her thoughts were stopped short as she spotted a girl up ahead, simply walking back and forth along the hallway. That was pretty silly! Walking from wall to wall wouldn't get her anywhere, and she surely wasn't about to walk through one of the stone walls. Nonetheless, the sound of her footsteps echoed throughout the hall... Thump, thump, thump..."
On the girl's third turn, Ellara finally decided to approach her, figuring something had to be wrong. She bounced over, moving in a sort of jog-hop format, and offered the girl a quick smile in an attempt to seem welcoming. "Hi! You seem a bit lost... are you doing alright?" She regarded the girl with a tilt of her head, her eyebrows furrowed in slight concern.
“Just because you can’t see something doesn’t mean it’s not there. Sometimes you just have to have heart in what you believe in.” ~Ellara Butler

Ruby's gaze was drawn sharply to the girl who had spoken. "I'm lost," she stated bluntly and simply. She hadn't missed the looks this girl had been giving her, either.
"I'm pacing this hallway so I can think. I'm very disoriented, which could also be from the moving staircases. I've never been in this hallway before, and there isn't anything I recognize here. Would you be willing to help me?" By the end of this, her tone had softened considerably, and she had already sized the Hufflepuff up and analyzed her, saving her observations as a mental note in a corner of her brain.
She definitely knew the girl was a Hufflepuff from the crest on her robes. That was lucky. The girl might be more willing to help her because of that, unless she happened to be in a bad mood. Ruby had seen the slight concern on the girl's face, so she figured that she'd be willing to help. At this point, Ruby was willing to just ask and take her chances. The worst that would happen was that the Hufflepuff would say no and Ruby would possibly follow her anyway. She was smart enough to find the way out on her own, anyway. Eventually, at least. Maybe she could make a friend from this meeting. She hadn't really talked to many Hufflepuffs yet, so she was interested to see for herself what they were like.
