A Viper in the Snake Pit
Action: as strategized
Ava knew that she wasn’t going to be everyone’s friend, but the glares she had been receiving from virtually everyone really hurt. Somehow, she managed to shrink back even further than she had, and she knew everyone would be grateful.
She tried to ignore it and focus on her spell, and when the time came to cast she fired a spell at Opeila quickly, but not quickly enough, as Opeila had cast a shield. Ava’s well placed Incendio bounced off the shield and towards her teammate--towards Lucian. She cringed as she realized the assumptions that would follow that spell. She was sure they were thinking that she had done that on purpose--as if she had learned how to aim off a shield.
At least hers wasn’t the only spell bouncing around. Another well cast weather spell had been cast, and had ended up going towards two of her teammates, one of them being Lucian. Since she wasn’t the one who had cast it, she smirked. She thought it was pretty funny.
She could stand and admire spell casting forever, though. She also couldn’t focus on the commentating coming from both the sidelines and the dueling spot. She raised her wand again, gave it a quick once over, and prepared to cast again.

. In a momentary lapse of thought Rebecca realized he had no clue what the difference was between "metelojinx" and "meteolojinx" (in his defense, do you know the difference between metelojinx and meteolojinx off the top of your head? No, you do not). In doing so, he muttered "Met-- telojinx!" and swished and flicked his wand into two overlapped left-facing hooks.
His split-second hesitation cost him dearly, as a dark raincloud formed above his head. The harsh smell of ozone flooded his nose, giving him only seconds of warning before a bolt of lightning struck him squarely on the shoulder.
His body gave an involuntary jolt as electricity shot through his nervous system. "Merlin-- shit-- ow!" he yelped. Bugger-- bugger-- bugger!
Rebecca spent the next few moments primarily distracted by sheer pain, but by the time he came back to his senses, Colin and Ava's spells had bounced off Opeila to no effect whatsoever. He kept his face neutral and eyes focused on their opponent. Not a great start, to be sure, but through the power of adrenaline he could ignore the pain. Maybe a cheeky hospital wing visit later would do some good, but as long as he was still standing he could still win.Action as Owled

"Protego!"
Oh, how nice it was to watch the mayhem this one word caused. Spells from five wands bounced around the room, not touching the fifth year, just sadly a lot less of the others than she had hoped as well- None, to be exact. Not that it mattered, it seemed like the youngsters were doing a fine job at taking themselves out. One of them cast a weather modifying charm, only for it to take shape above his own head as well as that of a classmate.
Immediately the unfortunate caster was hit by a lightning, making Opeila have to bite her tongue to not smile. Oh yes, this would only be a matter of patience. She would be just fine.
Opeila was a tenured duellist, she had been through several against opponents that varied strongly- from people who were now seventh years to little first years who had been defeated in a matter of seconds. She knew what to expect. The only strategy that may work for them, if they only had enough luck.
Only that so far luck didn't seem to be on their side. But Opeila wouldn't just stand here and wait for them to get each other down, no, maybe it was time to give them a bit of a fight.
Doing as strategized.

Mellani had to say, Opeila had made quite a smart choice with the shield charm. She sighed softly as her spell dissipated. It wasn't like she had expected it to hit, she had just hoped that she would be able to prove herself that way, even if it was only to, well, herself.
While she was lucky enough to not have her spell backfired, not everyone was. Ava's spell backfired and almost hit Luci, although luckily for him, he managed to evade it. Rebecca had also said a wrong incantation. Mellani was about to correct him before something bad happened, but she was too late and there was soon a cloud over both him and Lucian.
As a lightning strike hit Rebecca, Mellani got worried and she could not help asking him if he was okay. "You okay?" It was only a question, but it showed that no matter how hard she tried, Mellani could not stop caring about others. It was a trait that would never go away. She sighed softly as she got in position to cast her next spell. Tarantallegra had not worked, maybe this would. Or at least she hoped it would.
Mellani was many things, but duelist was not one of them. She was a chaser, and a member of the headliner, but none of those required magic, and that was probably why dueling was not for her.
