A party with no invitation
It was a warm day, May just arrived and the weather was as sunny as it could be. Perfect for a picnic by the lake. So Anna packed her basket with goodies the elves have prepared, by now they knew all her favourites by heart. To top it off she packed her purple blanket and a book in case she got bored. It took her a bit to descend all those stairs from the Ravenclaw tower, but it was more than worth it. The Great Lake looked marvelous glistening in the sun, a soft breeze rippled its surface making tiny waves near the shore."speaking"

Anna placed her blanket as close as she could to not fear it getting wet. Unpacking her basket she noticed it was fuller than usual. There really was everything she liked, but it was too much for her to eat alone. She pondered over all that food, deciding to just eat as much as she could. Hey maybe if she set it up like a real picnic some other Hogwarts students might join her! Jumping up she moved the blanket into the shade, not wanting the food to melt too quickly in the sun. She spent a decent amount of time organizing food across the blanket, making sure to leave place for students to sit. When she was satisfied she looked over her creation. A real and rich picnic indeed. There were a few sandwiches with different toppings, bottles of pumpkin juice, every flavour beans, some cupcakes and various other sweets.
Finally she sat down and looked around, not spotting anyone wandering she picked up a sour lollipop and leaned against a tree opening her book.

Wandering around the castle was one of my favorite things to do. Especially on a sunny and warm day like today. I snatched up my notebook and headed out from the Hufflepuff common room. It was a wonderful day.
I decided to go out to the Great Lake to write. Ever since I met Ara, she gave me inspiration to write. So I wrote all the time and I decided to write by the Great Lake today. I wondered if anyone else was there.
As I headed to my favorite spot by the Great Lake I found out that it was already taken by another girl. This girl was sitting under the tree, and it looked like she was a Ravenclaw. She had baskets beside her and was currently licking a lollipop.
It looked delicious. I wondered if she was having a picnic. She couldn't see me yet because she had her head in a book.
I decided to go say hello to her, because it was a chance to make a new friend.
"Hi! My name is Reyna Evergreen! What is your name? The food looks delicious by the way."
I hoped that she would get the hint that I wanted to be her friend and that it would be nice to have a picnic together.
I also hoped that she would let me and I am wondered how this entire encounter would turn out. Would more people join? Would we eat? Would we become friends? Those were all of the unknowns.

Anna was getting sucked into her book again, the lollipop was still in her mouth as her eyes scanned the pages. A girl approached her and observed curiously. Her voice snapped Anna back to reality, she whisked her head upwards the lollipop almost falling onto the blanket. She caught the girl’s name, Reyna, she had goldish brown hair, it fit very well with the yellow of Hufflepuff of her robes. Taking her lollipop out she smiled :” Hello Reyna. I’m Anna Blackrose”. Reyna complimented the food and Anna brightened. “Thanks, I just arranged it though. Would you like to join me on the picnic? This much food is a bit too much for only myself, so I thought I’d share it”, Anna smiled again, pointing with her lollipop still in hand to an empty place on the blanket, looking expectantly at the Hufflepuff girl.
“So what brings you outside on this lovely day”, Anna asked spotting a notebook in Reyna’s hands. She wondered if the girl liked drawing like Anna did, or maybe it was a book or a photo album? Whatever it may be Anna liked creative people, she found them to be unimaginably great to talk to, about anything really.

The girl, who I learned was named Anna, let me sit down with her while having a picnic. I was relieved. I didn't expect her to talk, and instead go back to reading, but instead, she seemed interested in talking to me. She told me a little bit about herself, most of which I already knew. Then she asked me how my summer has been. "It was amazing! I had to go to a few balls this summer, which I definitely do not enjoy but, I had a blast this summer. I hung out with my bestie and we went traveling together. And we went on a family vacation as well. All in all it was a great summer. How was yours?" I said. I hoped that answer was satisfactory. I picked up a few treats, including some chocolate frogs. "Thanks for sharing your food with me!" I said. I then added, "Also, what book are you reading? I love reading as well so maybe you give me a recommendation if you like that book?”. I hoped that was enough to get us started on a conversation that could lead us to becoming friends. Or maybe have something in common. Because friends were the best and I loved making new ones. |

Reyna accepted Anna’s offer and sat down taking some treats for herself, thanking Anna for it. “You’re welcome”, she smiled kindly. Reyna talked a bit about how her summer has been going so far. “Oh I went to a few balls myself, I enjoyed them though. Well, I sometimes felt out of place since I was one of the youngest usually, but I always managed to find someone to talk to”. Anna shared a bit of her experience as well. She put her book down, marking a page and bit into her lollipop, crunching on the bits for a bit, listening to Reyna.
The topic was moved to her book, and Anna smiled big, grabbing it and showing it to the girl. On the cover was a beautifully illustrated forest, in tinfoil, with various characters and animals popping around the name, ‘Grimms' Fairy Tales’. “It’s muggle fairy tales and they are very fun to read! Currently I’m reading about a girl called Cinderella, which is a really unusual name for a Muggle, I think. Anyway, she has to slave away for her stepmother and stepsisters and she can’t go to a ball. Oh the tragedy”, Anna did a mock voice and put the back of her hand to her forehead, pretending to faint, instead she burst into a fit of laughter. “What kind of books do you like to read?”, she asked, calming down a bit.

I listened to Anna as she spoke. She said a few things about how her summer had been. Then she told me about her book that she was reading, showing me the cover and telling me a bit about it. She did some acting while telling me a summary of the story and the two of us burst out laughing. Once she calmed down, she proceeded to ask me what kind of books I liked to read. "Oh, well I love to honestly read anything except for non-fiction. If I had to choose one well then I'd probably say fantasy. It's always very interesting. I also like to write, mostly fantasy so that's why I like to read it." I said. I smiled at her hoping that that was a satisfactory answer. I then picked up some food and started to eat. I was hungry. I hadn't known that until now. And these treats were perfect to vanquish my hunger. It was a very nice day by the Great Lake. I hoped that today I would find some inspiration for my book. My friend Ara had helped me brainstorm so I needed to come up with more ideas to finish the plot of the story. And maybe one day, my story would get as good as Ara's. And as far. |

Reyna and Anna were having such a good time together, sharing stories and laughs and food. She felt like she knew the girl for longer than just a few minutes. Anna listened to Reyna talk about her favourite books and nearly chocked onto her lollipop as the Hufflepuff girl mentioned that she writes. Anna went into a short coughing fit and gulped some pumpkin juice to calm herself. She used her handkerchief to wipe excess juice and stifle a few more coughs. Her behaviour was entirely unlady like, and she scolded herself in her head.
“Sorry about that, I became a little too excited. You said you write? That is amazing! Somehow it never occurred to me to write books”, Anna mulled over such thoughts for a little more while. “What do you write about? Now I'm really curious. Do you maybe already have something written? I’d love to read it!”. Anna smiled brightly, she didn’t realize she was leaning towards the girl. She also realized she said all of that out loud. “Oh of course not to intrude in your private writings, I just thought you might want someone to give you immediate feedback and encouragement”. She leaned back, now more calm and collected.

"Yes! I do write! I come here to get ideas!" I said replying to Anna's question. Anna asked if I could share something I'd written. Oh. Um. Okay. I didn't really want to. The only person who I'd shared it with was Ara. And she was my fellow writing buddy. Then Anna recoiled and politely said sorry if she was intruding on my privacy. "It's okay!" I said, "And my friend and I talk about my writings but maybe once I'm done I'll let you read it! Just not right now!" She nodded her head. We sat in silence for a few moments. The peace was nice. She was a fellow accquintance and she could be my friend. I proceeded to begin to write some more. This little picnic would soon later provide to be the inspiration I needed for another picnic. One that would happen in the story but would just be a lot more serious. It began to get dark so I packed up my things and finished the snack I was eating. "It was nice to meet you Anna! I hope that maybe one day we see each other again. And if we don't well then, it was nice talking! It's getting late so I'll be going back inside! Thank you for the picnic though!!!" I exclaimed. I waved goodbye to her and turned around to go inside. It had been a nice day and I had also gotten inspiration. Two good things. And maybe I had the possibility of also making a new friend. |
