[font=Times New Roman]“Oh well, if I was to have a friend trying out I might try out as well. It’s just the nerves that get to me.” Maybe, with someone she knew there, the nerves might go away - or at least settle down a bit.

While Quidditch was her favorite sport, and she loved playing it, she was doubtful she would try out again this year. She knew it was just a lack of confidence in herself, but she couldn’t find a way to believe in herself. With spells and duelling, she was perfectly fine. So why Quidditch?

“Does anyone really know what’s going on around the school though? I mean, it’s so big. And it’s a school of magic. Surely, it must be hard to keep track of stuff around the castle?” Dropping her voice at her next sentence, she leaned in a bit - it was obvious her next words for only for Elenas ears.

“Did you hear about the Masked Man last year? I was attacked by him when I was out after curfew, and there was definitely something dark about him. It turned out to be a kid at our school, my year, and I know no one my age would of done what he did. The amount of times he tried to kill people, it’s just not right. So there has to be a darker, bigger force behind it all. Let’s just hope they leave Hogwarts alone, or get caught before anyone gets hurt again.”

While she wasn’t really one for gossip, or rumours, she thought Elena had a right to know. She might of already known, but she just thought she’d give her a heads up and, at the very least, put her guard for if something bad was to happen at Hogwarts. After all, she wouldn’t wish what happened to her onto anyone.

“But all that bad stuff aside, tell me about yourself Elena. It seems as though I have too many friends I know nothing about, and I’d like to change that.”

Leaning back into her chair, her voice became normal volume once more. It was true, what she had just said. She had realised in the Summer Holidays that she had a lot of friends whom she knew nothing about but their name and their house. And how could you call yourself a friend if you only knew the bare minimum about someone?

Bella had just referred to Elena as her friend, the blue-haired girl found herself involuntarily smiling, it was still new to her to have anyone really mean it when they called her such.

Elena leaned back towards Isabella, "I heard a little bit of info about the mask being dropped by the guy, but I don't know if anyone has had the guts to go get it yet. Who knows, maybe he was being controlled. I'd assume that if that's the case whoever made the mask would have taken it back ages ago. I really hope that it doesn't happen again, I've never really had a home before, and I don't want to lose this one."

"Well, as for knowing more about me, I grew up on the steets in London, never had a home, know idea at all if I even have a family. In terms of happier things, I can play flute, fiddle, and viola. I'm in Devina's new cheer squad, Enchanted Souls band, and the Theatre Arts Club, I like interestingly written fantasy books, blue hair dye, really cool looking clothes, punk rock, and ancient history. Oh, and I'm a hell of a pickpocket." Elena punctuated the last part with a wink.

"So, how about you Bella? I should probably get to know you too."

[font=Times New Roman]The brunette frowned at the younger girls mention of never having a home or a family. Everyone deserved to have somewhere to live, right? “Well, you’ve sure got one hell of a backstory. And a lot of interests. You think you could teach me to pickpocket? I’m a shite thief, and it would be helpful when mum takes my stuff and puts it in her pocket.” Laughing casually at this, she continued.

“Hm, well I’m a halfblood. My mums a pureblood, and my dad was a muggle. So, of course, you can imagine how well their marriage went down with my mums side of the family. I’ve never met any of them, apparently I’m too much of a disgrace for them. And my dad died in a war when I was little - he was an army man. So it was just me, my mum and my brother in the world for a little while. That was, until my brother passed away in the summer. Then I got this random letter out of the blue from my mum telling me we’ve all moved out of London and to New Zealand. So I honestly have no idea what’s going on there. But me? I’m a surfer. I grew up surfing with my dad, and still went after he died. The surf’s meant to be mint where we moved, so I guess I’m sorta excited about that. There’s nothing really to me after that. Quidditch and surfing is basically all there is to me. I’m pretty basic that way.”

Smiling apologetically for her long speech, she leaned back in her chair - thinking. “OH, and I like Charms. Straight O’s in that class. But I’m thinking about being a dragon tamer when I’m older. It’ll be fun, who doesn’t like a bit of adventure?”

Perring down into the pitch, she added something on in a casual tone. “You know, if you ever need anywhere to stay, you could always come stay with us. My mum would be fine with it, she’s pretty chill about who I have over and how long they stay. I just don’t want you sleeping out on the streets, ok? It can be pretty dangerous for girls our age.” Shuddering at the thought of what could happen to her new found friend, she smiled at her as she spoke.[/font]

Well, that was about as good a reaction as you could get to Elena's history, Bella certainly was unique. Elena almost gasped when she offered her a place to stay but managed to keep her cool.

"Well, that's one way to talk about my history. Thank you, you're really kind." Elena smiled, "I heard there's some kind of blood test you can do to see if you have any sort of magical family history so I'm planning on doing that during break, should be fun, or at least revealing."

"Surfing. That sounds like a lot, I've hear that New Zealand had really nice beaches, proper sand too, where all the little granules make it nice and comfy to walk on." She smiled as she imagined warm surf and sand,"Sounds almost like heaven, and New Zealand has Hobbiton and the Weta Workshop right? You could go check those out, they're bound to be awesome!"

Elena sighed, "I once saw a picture of a place called Santorini in a picture book, I've wanted to go there ever since, I found a picture and started carrying it around after that. I even used to fantasise about moving there. Still do sometimes."

She pulled out a small folded up picture from her pocket and held it out to Bella, "It's my good luck charm, look how beautiful it is there."

[font=times New Roman]"I don't actually know what Hobbiton or the Weta Workshop is, but they sound really cool. Maybe I'll have to check them out in the Christmas holidays. Apparently it's Summer over there in Christmas. Isn't that absurd? I guess I'll be going back during there winter then for the Summer Holidays over here."

The way the world worked confused her. At the age of twelve she still didn't understand how or why the world didn't have the same seasons at the same time. Surely that would make more sense? Then kids that attended school and lived in other countries wouldn't have to go back to winter, fall, or spring during the summer. Shaking her head, she pushed all the confusing thoughts about seasons out of her head.

Santorini was, as Elena had said, beautiful. Isabella had had the pleasure of visiting it a few years ago with her family. "Santorini? That's in Greece. I went there maybe, two and a half years ago? It is really beautiful. Photos don't do it justice."

It was true. While the photo Elena had was amazing, the real thing was even more breath taking. And it had definitely been a highlight of her trip to Greece. "Everyone needs a good luck charm, don't they? I have one myself - I never take it off."

Pulling a necklace out from underneath her top, she swung it in front of her. It was a locket, housing a photo inside. "It was my mums locket, she gave it to me when I left for school. It's got a photo of my brother in it, so I can have him with me wherever I go. He's my good luck charm, not the locket."

As soon as she had got the locket, the photo of her brother and her had been inserted inside. He had been her world, so it only made sense to have him as her good luck charm.

"Santorini is really cool, but have you ever heard of Jaipur? I saw it in a travel guide once when I was looking for pretty pictures. It looks amazing. I haven't been there yet, but I would love to go there one day. There's a few other places I want to go too, but Jaipur is my favorite. What about you, is it just Santorini you want to go to?"[/font]

[font=Times New Roman]“Yea, it is where the Palace of Winds is, I really wanna go to the Palace. As for the Blue Lake? I can’t say I’ve ever heard of it. But it sounds awesome. We’ll have to go see it sometime. Maybe a Christmas holiday sometime. It’ll be warm then.”

Thinking for only a few seconds about Elena’s question, she sat up straighter and smiled as she spoke. “I love the sound of Antipodean Opaleyes, the Fantastics Beasts book says that they’re native to New Zealand. So I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I get to see one sometime. It probably won’t happen though, with all the security around dragons and stuff. ”

Dragons were an obsession of hers. Having read a lot of books about them in her spare time, her dragon expertise was one that exceeded the average twelve year old. She was well on her way to become the dragonologist she wanted to be.

“But the Ukrainian Ironbelly sounds pretty cool too. It’s the biggest breed of dragon. And I’m always up for a challenge. Being a dragon tamer can be really dangerous, but what’s life’s without a bit of adventure? It’ll be fun.” The smile stayed stuck on her face througout her explanation on dragons, and her voice had a note of excitement in it.

Leaning back in her seat, she turned to face Elena once more. “So if I’m gonna be a dragon tamer, what are you gonna be?”[/font]

Elena's eyes lit up when the other girl suggested they see the Blue Lake together, it would be so much more interesting with someone to see it with. She'd only heard of the Ukrainian Ironbelly as Elena hadn't finished reading Fantastic Beasts yet, she was still reading ahead about the History of Magic, it was interesting to read what had actually happened at some historical events.

Elena nodded, "I read a lot about occupations when I first got here and I keep finding myself coming back to either Hit-Witch or Wandmaker. Although Wandmaker sounds so much more interesting, I like the idea of experimenting with woods and cores. It also sounds a lot more nice and quiet, not to mention watching as people get paired with the perfect wand, and being able to go 'I did that.'"

"I also sort of like making things and fixing things. I used to do it all the time but with reparo and the scholarship money I haven't needed to. I used to do a little bit of woodcarving, I actually keep a couple with me." Elena went and rummaged in her back before pulling out a little wooden snake, it was a little coiled up cobra with its forked tongue sticking out, "Here, you take this one, I'd always wanted to give it to a friend."

[font=Times New Roman]She nodded her head as Elena told her about what she wanted to be. “Yea, a wandmaker would be quite cool. If I don’t become a dragon tamer, I would definitely try become a wandmaker.”

Her face stretched into a smile when Elena pulled a wood carving out, and offered it to her. “Thank you! It looks awesome. And it’s a snek for Slytherin, I love it. ”

Examining it, she marvelled at it. And what made it even more special was the fact Elena hadn’t referred to her as a friend. She was happy both her and Elena had become friends so quickly. Everyone she had become friends with in this past year had taken a while for her to get to know and trust. But this First Year, she just seemed to click with. She already trusted her enough to offer her someplace to stay if needed - which wasn’t really that common for her. In the last year, she had invited exactly zero people to stay with her.

It wasn’t that she didn’t trust people or have anyone to invite over, she just didn’t really think she was close enough with anyone yet. She wasn’t going to invite someone she barely knew over, now would she? But in the short time before the game, she had grown to trust and like the other girl. And it seemed as though, Elena’s had began to trust her as well - enough to call her a friend at least. And that’s must count for something, right?

Finishing looking at the carving, she pocketed it. “It’s an awesome carving Elena. But I don’t have anything to give you in return? I wasn’t aware we were bringing gifts.”[/font]

Bella liked it! Elena grinned, she was glad her newfound friend was this awesome. She'd have to try and make a dragon for her later. Elena's little coatl stayed with her though, it was the first thing she made after becoming free, it represented the three things that she loved most. Snakes, magic, and freedom, the idea of having wings and being able to fly anywhere... Well, there was a reason she wanted to join the quidditch team.

"All good Bella, I just thought it should go to someone who'll take care of it, and you seemed like someone that would." She smiled, "I'm glad you like it."

"So, since you're planning on being a dragon tamer, I guess you'll be looking forward to Care of Magical Creatures? I think it'll be fun, even if Griffith is snarky, but I swear he's got a heart, he was nice enough to try and help me out before, he's the reason I'm no longer a friendless information selling wreck." Elena smiled, "I'm really looking forward to Ancient Runes, it looks like a lot of fun, I always love learning symbols. I wish there was a class on wand woods and cores, like potions but for wands. It'd be sort of a psychology and magic mix I guess, super duper cool."
