Madi walked into the Potions classroom. She liked Potions, but she was a lot better at some of her other classes. Not that she was bad.
She found her regular seat and sat down, putting her stuff down next to her. Much of the class was still talking, so she turned around and began talking to the Ravenclaw student that was next to her. But when the professor called for their attention, everyone fell silent.
Today they would be learning about the Drowsiness Draught and the Sleeping Draught. Madi was very excited. It was one of the potions she'd always wanted to make.
They were handed out ingredients, and when the professor told them they could begin, Madi immediately set to brewing her potion.
Everything was going alright until it was time to heat it. She was supposed to heat it for 25 seconds on medium heat, but she accidentally let it go for longer than she should have. She took it off the heat as fast as she could when she realized her mistake, and didn't think her potion would have been that bad, as it had only overheated for a few seconds before Madi realized her mistake.
"Oh, I totally messed up." she whispered to herself.
But the fear of messing up again had gotten in her head, so when it came time to heat it again, she took it off too soon. She managed to complete the rest of the potion without another mistake, but Madi knew that it would not have the same effect a Drowsiness Draught should normally have, and it looked a little different than it should have. Madi poured her potion into her vial and hoped it would be alright.

Akina entered the Potions classroom, feeling grumpy with the much-too-hot weather outside. She preferred a warm day, not too hot, not too cold. But too hot weather lead to tiredness, and tiredness led to laziness. Akina never was her best self when she was lazy. She grumbled and shifted her bag over her shoulder. She sat down in an unoccupied seat. Usually, she didn't care about where she sat, since most of the seats were already occupied.
The professor came into view, and she looked up, trying hard to hear about what they would be doing today. She explained that they would be making, which Akina soon found out was a Sleeping Draught & a Drowsiness Draught. She raised her eyebrows, having recognized this potion from the many books she had read. Akina added her ingredients to the mortar and started to work on her potion.
About 10 steps in, she glanced around to see what everyone else was up to. She looked at the girl next to her, and decided to watch her for a few seconds. The girl was up to heating the potion. Akina counted 25 seconds in her head, but the girl had not stopped heating the potion. Soon, the girl seemed to realize her mistake and Akina knew she was embarrassed.
"Um, that was certainly not 25 seconds. Do you know how badly 1 mistake can affect a potion?!" Akina shouted, unable to stop herself. She was in a cross mood. Normally, she wouldn't have called someone else for a stupid mistake like this, but the way-too-warm weather was really angering her.

"Um, that was certainly not 25 seconds. Do you know how badly 1 mistake can affect a potion?!" The girl sitting next to Madi suddenly said, as Madi was taking her potion off the heat. Madi turned to glare at her.
"Will you mind your own business?" Madi snapped. "I can't fix it, so why bother pointing it out?" she was really angry. Of course the girl noticed the thing Madi did wrong.
Madi recognized the girl, although not by name. She was a Gryffindor, and was normally a lot nicer than she had just been, although Madi had never really talked to her before.
She was trying to figure out how she made the mistake, but her thoughts kept drifting back to how the mistake was 100 times worse because someone had noticed it, and instead of helpfully reminding to follow the time, had decided to shame her on it. She would have preferred this girl to patronize her over this. But normally she was really, really careful with the potions she was making and they turned out well. Everyone makes mistakes. She was trying to convince herself, but the message didn't seem to be sinking through. Madi was fine with other kinds of teasing, but when it came to academics, she absolutely hated it. It was just plain mean to be rude about someone's academics.
Just let class be over soon. she thought.

"Will you mind your own business?" the girl said angrily. "I can't fix it, so why bother pointing it out?" Akina glared at her. She didn't have to get all mad. Well, technically, I did start it, Akina's mind whispered. She was feeling very defensive at the moment, so she paid no attention to the thought, though Akina wondered herself why she was getting so angry at a simple mistake.
"Because it's obviously wrong," Akina said, trying not to shout despite her grouchy mood.
How dare she have an attitude with her! Akina felt her anger boiling in the pit of her stomach, and she was trying to calm down. Turning to her cauldron, she watched her own potion turn into bright pink, which was what it was supposed to be. She raised her eyebrow at the other girls cauldron, and Akina wondered what color it would end up as. Probably like, olive green, or orange or something nasty like that.
She should have brought a book with her. That would have been a sensible idea, and plus she could have just left the mistake alone like she should have. But it was too late now. She wished the potions classroom were cold. It was so annoyingly hot. Akina determinedly avoided the girl's gaze, keeping her eyes to the other side of the room, where there were many shelves full of countless vials.

"Because it's obviously wrong." The girl said. Now Madi was angry. She was really ticked off at the girl's first statement, but that comment pushed it over the edge. She tried to control her temper so she wouldn't full on shout at the girl, because she was certainly going to get into trouble if she did that.
She'd never had a very bad temper, but this girl made Madi almost lose it every time she spoke.
"Keep it to yourself. I don't need you pointing it out if it's so obvious." Madi calmly said. "What's your problem, anyway? I make one mistake and you tell me in the rudest way possible." she added, then turned and continued to work on her potion. Maybe she could make it better somehow? But she knew she couldn't.
Madi noticed the girl looking at her cauldron, with her eyebrows raised. Was she seriously judging it again? Was it really that hard to just keep her eyes on her own potion? Madi managed to do it all the time, why couldn't she?
"Anything else I'm doing wrong? Madi asked, sarcastically. She then told herself she was going to ignore the girl, as she certainly would make another mistake trying to make her potion while talking to someone, and she really didn't want to talk to this girl anymore. She knew she would lose her temper if she did.

Akina had the sudden urge to pelt the supplies on the shelves at the girl. She shut her eyes hard, and then opened them again, trying not to explode. Then the girl told Akina to keep it to herself, and to not point it out. Akina opened her mouth to utter another angry protest, but the girl continued. "What's your problem anyway?" Akina glared at the girl. "It's not my problem, its yours, if you haven't noticed that yet," she said, half shouting.
Akina was on the last step, finally. She waved her wand, and it was finished. Akina rolled her eyes at the girl. She sat back in her seat, fiddling with her bracelet. Akina stole a glance at the girl. But then suddenly the girl asked Akina if she was doing anything wrong. She knew it was sarcasm, but whatever.
"Maybe the fact that you weren't supposed to make that mistake," Akina replied smartly. She stopped. The grammar was totally off there, but she hoped that the girl would at least understand what she was trying to say. Akina wished she could just leave potions already. If this were Charms, then she wouldn't have to argue with an annoying girl who kept yelling at her. Akina just wanted to curl up in her dorm and read.

"It's not my problem, it's yours, if you haven't noticed that yet." Akina snapped. Madi was on her last nerve. She took a deep breath. If she had something to do like read or draw, it would be much easier to ignore this girl.
"If it's my problem you should just leave it alone. It's really not that hard." Madi rolled her eyes. She continued on her potion.
"Maybe the fact that you weren't supposed to make that mistake." The girl said, and Madi felt her blood boil. She didn't know much longer she could stand talking to this girl without throwing something at her.
"Can you drop the mistake already? I think we've clarified that I wasn't supposed to make it." Madi said. Now this was more annoying than angering.
She waved her wand and finished her potion. Did it look great? No, not really. But at least it wasn't the worst in the classroom. Her main hope was that it wasn't poisonous. There would be a lot more than detention if she poisoned somebody.
But what made her happy was that class was going to end really soon and she would get to leave. She'd never been happy that a class was ending before. But this was different, she wouldn't have to see this girl after class ended. Madi made a silent note to wait until the girl had chosen a seat to pick one. Preferably, as far away from her as Madi could be.

Akina saw the girl roll her eyes at her. Akina mocked her by waggling her eyebrows while rolling her eyes and turned away, not meeting her gaze. Instead, Akina looked at the clock, and almost collapsed in relief when she realized it was only 5-10 minutes away until the next period. She hoped that the girl wasn't in her next class.
The girl kept blabbing in her annoying voice, but Akina blocked it out with some effort. She focused on staring intently at the wall. A few moments later, Akina chanced a glance at the other girl's potion, which was now completed. She wrinkled her nose at it, even though she wasn't sure if it were emitting a pungent smell or not. It didn't look as horrible as Akina thought it would turn out to be, but it most certainly wasn't perfect.
Akina knew she shouldn't have bothered about the mistake. It was such a childish thing to do, but she would never have admitted that to the girl. Akina sighed and looked out the window, completely ignoring the pit of guilt deep down in her stomach. No. She did make the problem, didn't she? You had every right to yell at her. Somehow Akina felt like something was wrong, but she pushed that feeling away.
