Galahad checked his tie in the mirror one more time before we left, red with gold stripes. It was perfectly tied and he smiled to himself happily. He looked good. His hair and beard had grown out significantly in the last few months. He was happy with the change, it gave him a more weathered look, like his life experience was showing on his face. His hair was starting to gray slightly but he wasn’t worried about that, he was comfortable with his aging and felt no need to hide it. He had on his nicest black traveling cloak and a white dress shirt to go with his tie. He wore a pair of dark blue jeans and black boots. Normally he didn’t care about how he looked, he wanted to be presentable but this time he wanted to make an impression, a good impression. He hoped this would do the trick.

He walked over to the fireplace and sighed. Part of him wished he’d kept his London apartment. It had been great for commuting to the Ministry of Diagon Alley, but he just didn’t need it anymore. He let a small fire and grabbed his pot of Floo Powder from the mantle, still plenty there so he didn’t need to buy anymore just yet. He disliked the feeling of travel by Floo Powder but he liked apparting even less, so for the trip from his house in Bray (another place he didn’t strictly need but he couldn’t work forever, he’d use it eventually) to Diagon Alley, he used the Floo Powder. He tossed the powder in and the flames turned emerald green, he took a deep breath and stepped into the fireplace, feeling the gentle tickling of the fire on him. He clearly said, “Diagon Alley,” and off he went.

The trip wasn’t as bad as he remembered but he was still glad he’d skipped lunch. He stood up straight and dusted himself. Stepping out of the flames he was once again welcomed into the friendly confines of the Leaky Cauldron. It was just as he’d remembered it. Such a warm and welcoming place. He sat down at the bar and ordered a gin and tonic from the barkeep. He paid and took a long sip that was basically half the glass. He was very nervous and he didn’t know why. Their meeting at the Spring Ball had been brief but invigorating, he was sure this would go well but his heart was still aflutter. He didn’t even know if the owl he’d sent had been received. His last action before leaving the school was to use one of the school owls to send a note arranging this get together. He’d known there wouldn’t be time for a reply so he just hoped it was received and if no meeting took place then he’d just do his business and head home.

Orion:

Words cannot fully describe my joy at seeing you again during the Spring Ball. It pains me that our duties kept us from each other for so long. Once we get the little shits kiddies out of here I’m heading down to Diagon Alley, I’ll be there at 4 PM on the 2nd and would love to meet you at the Leaky Cauldron.

Galahad

OoC Note: This owl was written by Galahad and given to me to put in my post.
Orion had assumed Galahad had wanted to maintain a professional relationship after their meeting at the spring ball resulted in a lack of a deeper conversation. The interactions they'd had afterwards were few and far between. It had left him longing for a more meaningful connection, despite the fact that fifteen years had past and he was no longer a lovesick twenty year old.

He told himself that Galahad would remain the one that got away. No matter how his silver highlights seemed to glisten beneath the Great Hall's candlelight, or how his eyes sparkled with an endearing warmth. Just as Orion had resigned himself to the idea that their paths were not meant to intertwine in a more profound way, an owl had tapped at the window of his office.

The written word was a powerful thing, it possessed the unique ability to penetrate the human mind, stir emotions, challenge beliefs, and form armies. It was amazing how a simple string of sentences could cause Orion's heart to skip a beat.

A date at the Leaky Cauldron. August 2nd. He could have sung Galahad praises and cursed his name at the same time. How in Merlin's name did the man expect him to wait so long? Just because they had waited over a decade didn't mean the French man could stand living one more minute outside of his arms.

It was a damn good thing that he found Galahad so charming, Orion couldn't help but count the hours until their planned meeting, as anticipation mingled with impatience.

Finally the day had arrived. It brought with it a glimmer of hope, like a blossoming flower after an unending cruel winter. He wore his favourite seafoam green suit, hot weather be damned. He had bought a single long-stemmed red rose. His heart fluttered with anticipation as he strode towards the well-known bar. He took a breath, mentally preparing himself before pushing open the door.

As he entered, his eyes scanned the room, searching for the familiar face that had haunted his dreams for so long. And there he was, sitting at the bar, his silver-streaked hair catching the soft light, the added length only seemed to enhance his features.

"The heavens must favour you, Galahad. That is the only explanation as to why your features seem to be carved by angels." A terrible pick-up line was something Orion was unable to resist. He often found it broke the tension, and right now he felt like his heart was going to leap out of his chest. With a playful smirk, the French man passed his date the rose. "I have to admit... I was surprised when I received your owl. I thought... That perhaps you were uninterested or you wanted to keep things professional."

As Galahad sat at the bar, sipping on his gin and tonic, he wondered if Orion would come at all. It had been so long since the many nights they'd spent together as Aurors. Galahad felt a pang of guilt as he thought about it. He'd been very fond of Orion but kept telling himself that opening up and starting something with him would only make him more vulnerable. Seeing him at Hogwarts against had definitely awoken something inside of him. He could simply no longer wait and he knew what he wanted. His Auror career was over and he was a mere schoolteacher now.

Galahad became lost in his thoughts as he began to think about their reunion at the spring ball. His perfectly swept back brown hair, his perfectly trimmed facial hair that would not have looked out of place among the Three Musketeers, and those eyes, those deep sapphire eyes, as vast as the night sky. Galahad could look into those beautiful blues forever and never, ever get bored. Still, he was afraid he may have waited too long. Even someone as patient as Orion couldn't be expected to wait forever. He'd wanted to do something after the ball but he was just so busy still learning his duties as the Head of Gryffindor, but now, now he had time to actually start something.

Galahad's doubts were soon erased when he heard the softly accented voice from behind him. Greeting him with a typically horrid pickup line. Still, coming from Orion, it was very charming. Some people were just naturally cute and charismatic enough to make just about anything to work, and he was one of them. Galahad turned and smiled warmly at the approaching Frenchman as he happily took the rose that was offered to him. He playfully countered, "And I surely thought that I'd made you wait for so long you'd given up on me. I guess we both get to be happily wrong today." He finished with a mischievous smirk, gesturing towards the bar stool next to him.
