Midnight Classes
Alyssea ate the last of her chocolate frogs from the train ride to the castle in an attempt to stay awake. She didn't have coffee (she despised it, anyway) to keep her brain awake and it's not like they sell energy drinks in vending machines in the castle. Chocolate would hardly have any effect, but she figured anything was better than nothing.september 6th 2023; interacting with @Reyna Evergreen
The prefect came into the common room and Alyssea stood up to follow. Perhaps the trek up the stairs could wake her up. Or they could cause her untimely demise down the stairs. That would be embarrassing.
She followed the prefect and walked along the halls with a brunette girl behind her. If she couldn't find the friend she made on the train (who was also Hufflepuff) or her other acquaintances from First Year, she would settle with the girl behind her.
Soon enough, they arrived at the Astronomy Tower and Alyssea settled at her usual spot near the front in the middle of all the cushions. She needed something soft to settle on or else she would fall backwards on a chair. She admired the tower; nothing had changed, but then again, why would it?
Alyssea spotted the girl she walked with to the classroom. After a quick glance at the classroom, she found no familiar faces and hoped one of her housemates would be near her to ease her worries.

Astronomy was one of my favorite classes. And school had just begun. We were about to have our first class of astronomy late at night. As I walked to the Astronomy tower, I followed a girl with brown hair and brown eyes. Us Hufflepuff second years gathered around outside of the Astronomy tower. When we came in, the Astronomy professor let us choose our seats. I decided to sit somewhere near the front, but not the in the front row. Choosing the third row as my spot I looked at my choices. I sat next to the girl who I had followed earlier who was also a Hufflepuff. I had occasionally seen in the common rooms before. As I sat down, I got out of my materials. The professor was still organizing his things, and so I got a chance to talk to the person sitting beside me. I was still a bit tired from the train ride a few days ago since I hadn’t gotten the greatest sleep ever since but I still wanted to talk to this girl. "Hi!" I whispered, "I am Reyna Evergreen, second year, HuffIepuff as you can probably tell. What is your name?" Hoping that was a good enough introduction. I laid my hands on my lap, waiting for her answer me and hoping that at the start of my second year, I could make some new friends. Especially some Hufflepuff friends, because I definitely needed some more. |

The girl (luckily!) sat by Alyssea, settling herself and organising her materials. Alyssea followed suit, opening her book, ready to take notes, and a quill to write with. She stretched her arms, trying her best to keep the blood flowing through her body to keep her awake. It wouldn't be the first time she passed out in Astronomy, but it would be worse on the first lesson of the year.september 6th 2023; interacting with @Reyna Evergreen
"Hi!" The girl next to her whispered. Alyssea turned to her and offered her a smile.
"I am Reyna Evergreen, second year, Hufflepuff, as you can probably tell."
To that, Alyssea nodded. She had kept an eye on her on their way here. Now, she could stop referring to her as 'the girl' and more as Reyna. "What is your name?" Reyna asked.
Alyssea cleared her throat. Was she nervous? Or was it the tiredness creeping in on her? "I'm Alyssea Brown," Alyssea said, "Second Year and Hufflepuff, like you. It's nice to get to know you, Reyna."
Alyssea liked to say people's names the first time she was told them while looking at them. It was like a solidifying habit of sorts. She was good at remembering names, but faces were a bit hard to remember. So, she reasoned, if she said a person's name while actively trying to remember their face, she'd be able to remember their name and what they looked like.
She decided to start off with a generic icebreaker as the rest of the class continued to settle down and the teacher still organising his class. "How was your summer?"

The girl introduced herself as Alyssea and I nodded my head. Then she asked me how my summer was. It was a generic but good question. A good way to get to know someone new. I didn’t have to think much so I was immediately able to respond. “It was great! I went to a ball actually a few and I went traveling with my best friend! We also had some broom racing matches as I’m a broom racer.” I replied, “What about you?” I was excited to get to know this new Hufflepuff. I also needed a new dormie so I was wondering if maybe we could become dormies. She seemed really nice and could be a great friend. I decided to add on to our conversation. “Do you like Astronomy?” I asked as more people settled down into the classroom. We would have to stop talking eventually but for now I was enjoying my time. It was late and I was a bit tired from the train ride here but I would stay up to listen to the lecture because Astronomy was fun. It was one of my favorite subjects and I hoped it would continue to be. |

Alyssea eyes widened as Reyna mentioned her status as a broom racer. She'd been thinking of doing broom racing ever since she saw it at the summer games. She promised herself she'd never try Quidditch, but she did try duelling yesterday. "You're a broom racer? That's awesome! What were your races like?"september 6th 2023; interacting with @Reyna Evergreen
She cleared her throat to pause. "Sorry if I'm really excited. I'm just interested in broom racing."
"My summer was good, too! I went to summer camp in July, then went to the Czech Republic in August with my family. Nothing much, but I got to see my brother, so I was happy."
Reyna added on, "Do you like Astronomy?"
Alyssea shook her head. "Sorry, it's like one of my worst subjects. I don't fail! I just don't do as well as I'd like." She pouted. Hopefully, her turnout this year will be much better than last, much like how her Transfiguration grades got better.
"Do you like Astronomy?"
She wanted to mention her love for History of Magic, but she wanted to hear Reyna's thoughts on Astronomy first. Maybe this year, Alyssea will like Astronomy more. Last year, she wasn't so interested in planets, their positions, and whatnot. She hadn't looked at the syllabus for this year. What would they learn?

I grinned as Alyssea mentioned that she was curious about broom racing. I had been like that too. But only until I had been selected for the team after someone else dropped out. It was an amazing experience, something I really had enjoyed and never would have thought I would get to experience. "Don't worry!" I said, "Broom racing was fun, it's a dangerous sport not gonna lie but it's really fun. There's a lot of pressure during the races but it was fun!" I then listened to her talk about her summer. "Cool!" I replied. "Your summer sounds fun! How was summer camp? I wanted to go but didn't get the chance. I only saw a tad bit of it for broom racing." I nodded my head as Alyssea said she didn't like Astronomy that much. She then asked me. "Oh, yes, I do love Astronomy. I am sort of good at it and I find it fascinating! What subjects are you good at or you like?" I asked. I looked around the classroom. Most people were seated now, a few missing. The teacher didn't show any signs of starting yet though so we could continue talking. I hoped that we would become friends. Maybe in the near future... or maybe soon. And maybe she could be my new dorm buddy. I'd seen her around in the Plant Palace dorms in Hufflepuff so that would work as I was also in the Plant Palace dorms. But for now, I would get back to the topic at hand, making a new friend and of course learning Astronomy. |

Broom racing definitely sounded like fun. Maybe Alyssea should consider signing herself up and trying. She signed herself up for the duelling roster after the duel with Zach yesterday, and if she couldn't get into duelling, she certainly could try broom racing.september 6th 2023; interacting with @Reyna Evergreen, mentioning Zach Zaphiere
As for summer camp, Alyssea had a lot of good memories. "Summer camp was good! My first time doing it, so I didn't really know what to expect. But I did enjoy meeting new people, especially from other countries. The summer games were also a good watch."
Once next year's summer camp came around, Alyssea would sign herself up again. Maybe she could also get to know her cabinmates a lot better. She was a bit scared by her Phoenix cabin members.
When Reyna asked her about her favourite subjects, Alyssea hummed. "I love History of Magic! I just like history, in general," she chuckled, "I do also enjoy Charms. Transfiguration is interesting but I struggle a little bit. I'm working on it, though!"
She quickly found herself learning this year's Transfiguration spells during her First Year. Professor Aarden called it prodigal lessons, but she didn't think too much of it. Now that she'd gotten ahead for this year's curriculum, she had to work on next year's spells. The Third Year curriculum was more interesting than Second Year.

"Cool!" I said, "Summer camp sounds fun!" I hadn't gone to summer camp because of all the traveling we did over the summer but maybe next year I would go to summer camp. It seemed like a good experience. I could make new friends and also hang out with the ones that I currently had. I hoped to make new friends this year. Alyssea said that she liked History of Magic, Charms and Transfiguration. I made a face at History of Magic. I did not exactly like History of Magic. It was in my opinion not my favorite subject and the one that I was the worst at. I never normally got above an A in that class. Maybe Alyssea would help me become better at that class. "Are you good at History of Magic?" I asked, "I generally am not the greatest at it and because of that it's not my favorite subject. Maybe you could help me with it? And maybe I could help you with Astronomy?" I didn't want to rush things but I did want to get to know her. I smiled at the thought of us being friends. I was excited for that. If that did happen. Which I hoped it did. |

She also wanted more friends to attend summer camp with. Alyssea joined by herself and had difficulty reaching out to the people in her cabin. Was she nervous because it was the first time she was doing it? Was it because they were from overseas? The language barriers may have contributed to the nerves. She hardly spoke another language now that she moved back to England.
Hopefully this next camp will turn out better than the last. For now, she had to get through another year.
The disgust on Reyna's face was nothing new to Alyssea. There were hardly any positive reactions whenever she told people her favourite subject. She nodded. "I'd say it's my favourite subject. I get the best grades in it." She ended last year with an O on her report for that, so it was really a no-brainer about it being her best.
"Maybe you could help me with it? And maybe I could help you with Astronomy?" Reyna asked.
A big smile broke out on her face. "Yes! That would actually be great."
The room began to quiet down and Alyssea took it as a sign to do the same. She leaned towards Reyna and whispered, "By the way, what dorm are you? We can talk more after class."

I nodded my head at Alyssea's response. "Yeah, I do want to try summer camp next year." I said. Alyssea's answer that her favorite subject was History of Magic was not true for me but I was excited when she said that she would love to help me with History of Magic. And I would help her with Astronomy. I grinned excited for that. "Yay!" I replied, "We should set something up later, maybe after class!" I looked around. Everyone was practically seated now and much more quiet. That was a signal that we should stop talking. Aw man, I want to keep talking though! Well, that would have to wait, I had to pay attention to keep my grades up. Still, Alyssea quieted down and just whispered asked a question in my ear. What dorm was I in. She also said we could talk more after class. I grinned. A new friend hopefully at the start of the year! Yay! I quickly whispered back, "I'm in the Plant Palace dorm and I'm actually looking for a new dormie this year as my old one left me. I not sure where she went though. And yes let's talk more after class or when we are allowed to talk again!" I listened to Professor Baird as he gave his lecture about the twelve well thirteen signs. It was quite interesting in my opinion and I was excited as he showed us the new spell we would learn. I checked the time. Class would be over soon and then I could talk to Alyssea again. Although it was getting pretty late but I would find time to talk to Alyssea anyway. |
