The chaos of smoke had left Donald a bit lost. He looked around, and it seemed the entire area was smoky. It seemed that Donald forgot to do anything as he watched the lights of spells being cast, illuminating the smoke in random fractals. A cool effect, but perhaps best seen when there isn't a thread towards yourself. The Hufflepuff boy had luckily not been a target for any attacks. Most of the others seemed unwilling to make an attack, so the spells were few and not directed towards him.

"I thought this was a no smoking campus?" He tried to joke, shaking his head of his inaction and preparing for the next round.

A glance about didn't make it easy to see the short, angry boy partnered with Donald. He was certain they were around somewhere. It didn't sound like he'd been hit, either. There was a distinct lack of swearing and screaming from him. Squinted eyes slowly revealed the nearby ball of anger, in a dodging position.

"Adorable." Donald caught himself saying out loud, albeit quietly. Maybe it would be heard, maybe it wouldn't. Now he had to try to see where the rest were and what they were doing. A small spark could be seen where a spell had been exchanged earlier. It seemed either the floor or a Slytherin boy was on fire. That was a fun one at least.

And finally, some luck.

After spells after spells missing, minus the Tarantallegra earlier, Raizel's Incendio finally reached its target despite the fog obscuring her view from the rest of the other duelists. She doesn't need to look to where Bea is, knowing full well that the older girl had gotten knocked off of her feet earlier from a strong Flipendo. She just hoped that she had gotten back on her feet. She can't exactly fight off 4 people on her own.

Their situation isn't what you can call great at the moment. The other teams are doing a lot better than them considering how most of their spells missed their targets while the others are getting in hits after hits on them. The fog doesn't seem like it's letting up soon and she really hopes that it does soon but no matter. As long as they are still standing, they will continue fighting… at least she knows she will even if this might turn into a hopeless situation for their team.

Yes.

Raizel's grip on her wand tightened, gritting her teeth as she looked around her. "Oh what a situation we are in right now…" she muttered to herself and she doubts anyone could hear her right now aside from her dueling partner that's close by. "Keep it up, this isn't over yet." It was mostly words of encouragement to keep herself going despite the odds against her. Impossible as it may be, wouldn't it be nice if they managed to turn this around in their favor. Unlikely but hey, just a thought.

Her chest felt tight and sore. Probably due to her laying on the ground from a nasty spell. Gritting her teeth, she stayed still for a few seconds as the rest of the duellists spells washed over her. The smoke really was a brilliant puffy cloud from down here. Maybe she could stay so it would hug her too? The thought came just as her partners words came to her. What was she thinking?! There was too much on the line for laying here, however much nicer it was on the piste at this moment.

Bea rolled over onto her stomach, pushing herself up with her arms into a crouch. She cast a quick glance at Raizel, who seemed to to be having much better luck than her, and nodded to her partner. Bea was thankful for the other girl. Raizel's encouragement was just what she needed in this never-ending nightmare of a duel. She hoped the girl did continue her plans for signing up for the Gryffindor duelling team.

The words "funtime extravaganza" floated into her head. Much like last Summer, this was the same setup up, minus the fun. Bea was surprised at this point that no one had been knocked out. Hopefully her opponents would be the first to go.

Ooc: will make this pretty later

And he got grazed by a spell, and now his clothes were aflame. And his partner seemed to have gotten lost in the smoke; unable to discern their next move; even though it should have been fairly rudimentary to puzzle out.

Darn, perhaps he'd overestimated Leveret; and he'd need to go ahead and do this one on his own. But what to do, what to do. Time was ticking, and it seemed that Miss Langsreth and her pet Gryffindor were committed to try and force the Slytherins down with them.

Inefficient; unoptimal. Illogical, even. But he understood being the target and being perceived as the biggest threat on the block. He could live with that, though he'd need to be a bit more deliberate in his actions than simply obfuscating and hoping for the best. Even the most complex of problems call fall prey to bullheaded determination, and his opponents were nothing if not determined, from the way that they seemed to be conducting themselves thus far.

A slow exhale, a loosening of his form, now that no one could see him. Perhaps he needed to loosen up and be limber for these closing phases of the duel, to see himself and his team delivered the victory.

Well... maybe the kids were getting tired. There didn't seem much else to explain the way everyone seemed to slow down. Only Bea and Raizel, although perhaps in worse shape than all the others, still seemed relatively present and quick to cast.

Or... maybe that wasn't a good thing, after all. While Beatrice managed to cast a very solid fire-making spell, and directed it across the room to Ming who was too slow to evade it. On the other hand, Raizel's knockback jinx went completely awry, changing directions from Ming - who was, presumably, her original target - to shoot towards Bea instead. The Ravenclaw seemed understandably taken off guard, and failed to evade her partner's spell in time.

Dee sighed, tapping her foot impatiently. "Come on, guys!" she called. "At least move, would you?" This would have been the opportunity for the mixed red and blue team to catch up, with both other teams seemingly inactive, yet somehow, it had ended worse for them than it had started. A gaze at the clock, at least the time was ticking down. One way or the other, most of these children would need to take a trip to the hospital wing, but then, such was duelling.
Even later mod, completely on me, my activity died when my laptop did. Sorry. Two more rounds though, if you want to finish it I'm down.

All the smoke was swirling even more than before, it seemed. Donald took the chance to skulk to a new location sneakily. He'd hope that would be a good dodge action in case someone aimed at him. He wasn't sure who was winning, if anyone, at this point. His partner was on fire constantly and had been hit a lot. But a lot of back and forth happened between them all so it was impossible for the Hufflepuff to tell right now.

"I feel like we're losing, and time is running out." He tried to whisper to his partner who had to be somewhere nearby.

There was a flash and a bit of an odd sound. It almost seemed like the girls had hit each other or something. Maybe they got hit by a spell. There had also been a spell going across the stage towards the snakes. He heard basically nothing coming from their side, which concerned him. Were they plotting something, moving closer for a strike? Donald was squinting at this point through the haze, trying to see if someone got knocked out yet. It seemed like there was fire now that he peered closely towards those Slytherin boys. Was one of them ablaze now? That would at least keep them warm.

The sharp knife of a short life. Was that how it felt for everyone else when they were randomly selected and then jabbed into the heart with every injury they would intake? Every breath he took, he felt he was suffocating behind the gaseous hints of death. Was there gaseous hints? No. How about death? No. It was simply a feeling, a feeling that team Hufflepuff would lose. And that feeling would suck. It sucked completely. What's great, in a general sense of sarcasm, was that he and his teammate were still caught in the ugly wall of smoke.

He decided to play the brilliant tactic of dodging once again. Apparently everyone wanted Clark dead.

Well, that was fine. They could want him out, but it would be a cold day in hell when hell freezes over. At least, when hell freezes over, Clark likely would've forgiven Avery for reasons he didn't know. And truth be told, he didn't regret punching him. He felt he did the right thing.

And looking at him, Clark knew his thoughts were correct, that he was definitely doing better teamwise.

Of course, Clark only saw it that way because he was biased. He absolutely hated/loathed Avery's guts.

Was there any way to blow this fog away? From what she knows, there is but it's a spell that she doesn't know.

Damn it

Would've been nice if she learned it soon. Well, while the fog had made it harder for the other teams who were affected by it as well, it was taking a huge toll on her team more than the others which isn't great since they are currently in a bad spot.

Eyes scanned the dueling area, trying to find her target, figuring out on which silhouette belongs to who. Her next move was something that she would regret later on. The first silhouette that she saw, she immediately jumped into the conclusion that it was her target which is one of the Slytherin boys but no, it wasn't.

It was only then that she realized that it was her own partner that she hit, making Raizel grin nervously while holding her wand close to her chest. "Oh, that was… ahahaha." Was all she could respond with while staring at Bea's direction. Surely that Flipendo didn't hurt right? Or did it? Truth be told, she doesn't know how powerful her spells can get considering that she had only dueled for a couple of times and most of them missed their target too.

It was unfortunate that this time, her spell just found its mark but on the wrong target.

The fog still surrounding her, Bea was thankful it wasn't obscuring her vision, unlike poor Rai still. She was confident that with clear vision she would be able to adeptly dodge any incoming attacks. Having a spell flung at her when she couldn't see would be the worst way to go. Speaking of no one going, why was no one out? In round 8? Bea had thought that surely by now, someone would have dropped out, calling it too much to bear for them. The fact that no one had yet was bewildering, and slightly annoying. She had agreed to this match because she had thought it, not easy, but at least competitive. This was turning into a mess and an embarrassment.

What was even more of an embarrassment and mess was the spell that came at her out of nowhere! Bea shrieked, not expecting her own teammates spell to come firing towards her. "Ming Rai! You were supposed to aim for Ming!!" She felt the blast land on her, a punch to the gut that had her doubled over and wheezing. "Geez Rai. Pack a punch why don't you!" She coughed, her lungs trying gain back the air that had been stolen from them.

Again, he found himself cursed with images of flitting shadows that lingered in the periphery of his sight. Many tendrils- no, legs, lept across his sight often, distracting him entirely in the middle of a high-stakes battle. He needed to be at his best for his team-mate, for his house, and yet he wouldn’t be. That fateful evening when he met Vladimir would have more of an impact on him that he was willing to believe.

Raizel had blasted her teammate, and that had snapped him back to it. Instinctively he had tried to dodge, though no spells came his way; and then he recognised her miss-cast a second later. A small smile crept upon his lips before being wiped away by seeing Ming blaze with a roiling fury; robes ignited.

This was getting too close for comfort, it was time to act; time to drive forward and lead them to victory, all he needed to decide was which path he would walk, which angle to pressure, to open up in weaknesses. So far he had been playing a little mental game with that Goblin, but perhaps now it was time to deliver upon a promise, long since made…

Or perhaps it wasn’t. Beatrice was looking particularly sweet, Donald; untouched. To win he’d have to rise above one team, and bring one team down to join them. Did he have time to do both? He banked on Ming getting himself sorted and went to respond…
