Daniel Weaver enjoyed the library. There was something soothing about the smell of old, withered books that survived such years of abuse and use from previous students. Every book had their own story - not just about what they contained, but of the people who used them. What teachers, of those who were once alumni from Hogwarts, picked up these same books? What famous person once touched them? The books couldn't speak - why would they? They were mysteries in and of themselves. It was something that Daniel found he enjoyed.
The Slytherin found his way today through the stacks. His fingers danced over dusty spines and equally untouched shelves as he did. He was looking for a book on Charms; it was one of his favorite classes. He liked being able to do things with magic, but sometimes, spells ended up being too easy, or didn't seem really all that interesting. When would he ever use the spark charms? He knew there would be a time and place for it, but he wanted to learn more.
He wanted more knowledge. The ambition to be better ate at him, from the stomach to his forehead. He was going to outshine all of the people at Hogwarts, in one way or another.
He paused, catching the brown cover. The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection. He pulled it out with curious fingers, and an equally as curious mind, and leaned against the shelving. He dusted the spine off carefully, then the cover. Hmm. This could be interesting.
"What secrets do you hold, my friend?" he murmured under his breath as he opened the book. It seemed like a book about dueling and spells. He skimmed some of the pages. He'd have to ask Nora, the Slytherin head of house, about teaching Slytherin spells that other houses didn't know.
He wondered if she'd agree to it.

Henry'd wander the library, fiddling with his blue tie. He was still getting used to it but at least he could do it up now. His brother, Patrick, taught him how before he left in order to 'make sure you don't look like a nerd with a swotknot'. Henry missed Patrick, he could always rely on him to cheer him up and to get his things back when his younger siblings would steal them as a joke. He made a mental note to send another letter home.
Henry liked books, they were solid, they were interesting and they were always there. He shook his head, it wasn't right to be salty about his mother leaving. She didn't really have a choice.
He was currently looking for the potions section of the library as he presumed he would need all the extra help he could get. Henry wasn't a fan of chemistry when he was in his first year of high school. Henry had been brought up a year when he was younger so experienced year 7. Scrunching his brows, he'd wander into other aisles to look for what he needs. Henry's sense of direction wasn't the best.
Spotting the male in the aisle ahead, he'd decide to not beat around the busy and go and ask him. Walking up to him quickly, he'd give him a smile before asking
"Excuse me, do you happen to know where the potion books are?"

Daniel's eyes traveled over the pages of the book in his hands, more interested in it than the people around him. People weren't his forte; sure, he had people he liked to talk to, and had friends from prior to his tenure at Hogwarts, but branching out? He wasn't a fan. They were annoying. They tended to get in the way of his studies, and it drove him up the walls. Yeah, he could make friends; did he want to? Not particularly. The spell on the page was three times more interesting than anyone at the school was.
Well, no. There were some professors who caught his attention. Some classes he really liked taking. He would admit to that, at least.
He heard the footsteps, but not that they were approaching him. It was only when the words of the other boy spoke up that Daniel's eyes danced from page to face. The Slytherin could tell from the way the boy's clothing was that he wasn't a Slytherin, and that they had probably only had classes together. Dan tried to rack his brain on whether or not he's seen this boy before. Coming up with a solid no, he decided to at least humor him and answer the question.
"It's not here," he said simply. This was more like... the spell casting area. Charms or Defense Against the Dark Arts. Potions were... he rubbed his head, closed the book, and decided to take it with him. He'd check it out and continue reading in the safety of his dormitory, where only other Slytherins could bother him. He knew his roommates would give him the time and space to read.
"I'm really not too sure, but I guess I could help you find them. What book are you looking for specifically? Maybe that'll help narrow down the search?" Daniel suggested. The library here at Hogwarts was massive. It wouldn't surprise him if the two spent most of the afternoon just hunting for the potion section, let alone the one specific book the other boy needed.

When the boy first replied, Henry's spirit dampened slightly. If this boy didn't know, it meant he'd have to go ask around. Though maybe that'd help him get better at finding which aisle had what section of books.
When the Slytherin shut his book and spoke again, Henry's face lit up in a grin as he nodded eagerly. It would definitely be easier to find the potions section with two pairs of eyes on the look out, surely. He knew he had to take this opportunity as whilst they would be looking, he could look at all the different areas of the library and commit them to memory. Ah, the perks of an eidetic memory really do come in handy sometimes. Not that he'd ever brag or show off about it, Henry was a slightly insecure and introverted boy who, when talking to people, stuck to facts or questions rather than talking about himself and his mind.
This could be an opportunity for Henry to make a friend from another house, too. He had a few associates within Ravenclaw but not many from other houses, not that he hadn't tried to, of course. He was just busy with catching up everywhere right now.
"That'd be great, thanks. I reckon we should start by figuring out if there's an order to the library."

As the Ravenclaw spoke about finding the order of the library, Daniel’s eyebrow rose. Was this Ravenclaw being serious? Every library had an order, and it would be easy to figure out if they simply asked. It’d be easier for everyone involved if they, you know, simply headed towards the librarian and asked for the book the other boy was looking for. It couldn’t really have been that hard in all reality, if he was honest. They were already in one section that had sections built for the school’s classes. Potions was either down into the depths of the library, or back towards the front of it.
He tapped his fingers idly along the cover of the book he still held, and looked through the sections. Yep, this section was definitely related to Dueling, and more specifically, Defense Against the Dark Arts. Charms, while the class was his favorite, often didn’t teach one about self-defense and hexes. Charms were, to Daniel, more useful ones when one wanted to change the environment. Hexes and counter-curses were useful.
He debated becoming a curse breaker. They were famous, and ambitious, and often very useful.
Potions, he figured, would also be helpful. The Slytherin tucked the book under his arm and scanned the aisle before stepping towards the row that led to all the other ones. The library was huge, with numerous books about basically anything a student in any year could want. Maybe that was why Daniel enjoyed the silence. Plus, people annoyed him. They talked too much. He wondered when they’d be able to learn the Silencing spell.
“This is the Defense Against the Dark Arts section. If it’s broken into subjects, potions must be farther back, no?” Daniel added, jabbing the thumb of his free hand towards the deeper depths of the library. His eyes trailed quietly over the rows, and then upwards towards the second part. There were more study tables up that way, but some other books, too. “Where do you want to start?”

“I think you’re right. Especially if it’s alphabetical, which my library in my town was, by subjects. We should start near the back, to see if that’s correct or if they’re just randomly placed in sections.”
Henry’d nod, already setting off towards the back of the library. He assumed his new friend would follow as he’d said he would aid him in finding the section. Honestly, Henry knew he could spend the time to look himself but now he’d actually spoke to him who would willingly, even if reluctantly, help him- he might as well drag him along too. Besides, it was a new chance to make a friend as he was very certain that he wasn’t in his house and judging by his robes he was in slytherin. Henry had met a few Slytherins before and didn’t really see anything wrong with them like everyone else said.
“Thank you for helping, by the way. I’m Henry. Henry Reed, Ravenclaw. And yourself?” He stuck his hand out, as manners were important to him and he wasn’t going to let his mothers teachings die out just because he was somewhere else now. There were obviously no one else from his family at Hogwarts so he had taken it upon himself to ensure that they had a good name.

Daniel blinked as the other boy, whatever his name was (as, Daniel noticed, they hadn’t even introduced themselves), started to go on about his library in town. His brows creased, though, regardless, as he looked around at the vast majority of what the Hogwarts library was. He doubted any muggle library, or even any wizarding library, was as massive as this one. Daniel could recall the study in the Weaver home, filled with bookshelves upon bookshelves, but there was a limit. Hogwarts, Dan was sure of it, had plenty of books that anyone could ask for. Muggle things, and magical things, and magical subjects and… he figured there must have been something for anyone there.
The thing he wasn’t amused about, was how this boy was going on about how it could be in alphabetical order. “I said it’s broken into subjects, not necessarily in alphabetical order.” It was true what he said, though. They were standing at the end of a row of shelves, which just happened to be defense against the dark arts related. He hadn’t passed the charms section, nor the astronomy section, on his way through. The chances of it being alphabetically were slim, but he’d let this other boy be humored if he was thinking about it anyways.
Regardless, Daniel may have been a jerk, but he at least gave people chances first. Rolling his shoulders, he quietly followed after the other boy, offering no other help. At least now the boy introduced himself as a Ravenclaw. Henry. Daniel rose an eyebrow and yet, didn’t take the proffered hand, “Daniel Weaver. Nice to meet you too, I guess. Lead the way, Henry.” Polite enough, but also at the same time, a bit distant. It was Daniel.
